I enjoy hiking and love the Chiricahua Mountains. It is also a great place to bird watch or just get away from it all. We found this place near Portal Arizona and it has been a great stay. We are in the lodge which is an entire home and very cozy, but there are also cottages that are smaller but look charming. Outside our bedroom in the Lodge lie the Chiricahua Mountains - it is almost as if they were in the backyard. Near Portal and the local store/cafe, it is a convenient short drive to get what you need or take a break from cooking. Bill is an incredible host - if you need anything or local information, he is friendly and very helpful. This is a perfect place to stay if you like the outdoors and/or want to explore the Chiricahuas. I have been staying different, cooler spots this summer in Arizona (Alpine, Pinetop and now this area) to avoid the brutal Phoenix heat, and by far these are the nicest, most reasonably priced accommodations I have found.
