Learned over my time in the UK that Wetherspoons is a pub company that operates a good number of restaurants around the UK. They all seem to have different names and variable styles, but the menus are similar and they all pride themselves on being reasonably priced. Menus are accessible and should have something most everyone will tolerate. I found their promise of low price food and drink to be a true one; I ate here so many times just trying to save money while abroad, lol. They had a deal for an absolutely enormous hot dog, chips, peas, and a single mixed drink for under 10 pounds. I'm sure that's changed since 2015, but I'd be willing to bet the prices are still reasonable since that's sort of their schtick. The food is pretty good for what you pay for (manage your expectations, folks). The service, especially at the bar, can be a little hit or miss. But the building is a comfy two story and there's always friendly, sometimes rowdy folks about. They often open their windows on summer nights and it's nice to hear laughter and song spilling out into the streets. read more

Hit and Miss. Avoid coming here in the evening, especially during popular nights out or game nights. There is not enough staff to keep up with the mess that the masses create. However if you do choose to come here for a nice cheap 'burger and beer' or whatever during the daytime hours then you have made a half decent choice. Found myself in Oxford (well I say I found myself, but I did get a train there), and with 5/6 hours to spend poring over a new scene my stagepartner and I had to work on, this Wetherspoons seemed like a pretty good idea. It wasnt too busy, seemed normal for a Sunday afternoon, and set over two floors, we parked ourselves upstairs in the corner. Got some food later which was 'A-ok' and as I was only drinking soda and limes I cannot really comment on the quality of the beer etc but the bar service was good and the staff nice. Im sure this may probably become my new Oxford studying venue :) read more

Another great pub in the Wetherspoon's chain! This place is two floors, with ample seating and a few TVs to watch the game. The prices, as with all Wetherspoon operated places, and unbelievable. For 5 pounds you can get a burger, chips, AND a beer. It's such a fantastic deal. And if you get a soda instead of the beer, it's only 3.99!! So basically ordering one Stella Artois is almost as expensive as getting a full meal with a soft drink! The only reason this place gets four stars instead of five is that it isn't quite as good as a few other Wetherspoon joints I've been to. The seating situation was a little less comfortable and they didn't have couches to chill at like many do. Otherwise the bar was very quick with orders. Almost scary quick. We ordered the burger deal six times (long night) and each time it came in under five minutes. I could not believe the breakneck speeds these meals arrived in. A cool feature about this specific place is that they have "Guest Brews" where they feature different microbreweries and local places on tap. The prices for these hover at around 2.50 so it's a great deal and you can experiment with some local flavor. They had a surprising amount of these, probably around 7 as well as their standard selection. Overall, this place has about the best prices in all of Oxford. We've explored quite a bit of the area and if you're looking to dine for the most reasonable prices around, go here!!! I used to go to Wetherspoon's quite a bit but now limit myself to the odd breakfast every now and again. They as a chain used to be good value but I guess that as food prices have risen so they've had to pass them on making it not such good value when to actually look at what your getting. Theres also the problem that many Wetherspoon's are the size of football pitches and the average customer are men in there 50's early 60's who order whatever the cheapest pint is and then sit there the entire day. Theres 1 place in North London (won't mention the name of it) were they'll start singing at the top of there voice and.... staff will joint in. You get ignored at the bar if one of the regulars wants serving etc, Over the years I've been to a large number of Wetherspoon's in London and on various travels around the country. What I've noticed is that what you get depends on where you are, what time it is etc i.e sometimes you'll get eggs that have been under a heat lamp for what seems like 2 hours or 'toast' that nothing more than warmed bread. 99.9% of the time if I'm out and need a meal my first choice would be a 'workers cafe' type greasy spoon large portions and a decent price. The only exception to the rule is breakfast. Its pretty hard to beat the Wetherspoon's large breakfast at £4.50. Needed to do some work so popped in here to use the free WiFi. It was pretty early so I was the only customer. I normally never have a Wetherspoon's large breakfast at breakfast time as its just too much food especially after my morning run. I normally leave it till about 11.45 and make it a late breakfast early lunch even then its only something I have every couple of months. Placed my order with the bar man and got the response "....and what drink would you like with that? tea/coffee/juice". An 'up sell' trick that Wetherspoon's have learned off McDonalds as the breakfast doesn't come with a drink. I politely declined as I've not found the coffee or tea particularly that good as for the orange juice.... how f'ing much for 'catering quality' OJ??? at least McDonalds have the decency to offer Tropicana! The place is nicely laid out without the tables being too close together. Theres a table with sachets of just about every sort of condiment under the sun. As usual theres a TV on with the sound muted. Place appears clean and fresh. Food arrives with knife and fork wrapped in a napkin. At this point your never quite sure what your going to get but this looks fairly O.K. Baked beans runny, toast toasted, egg yolks unbroken. On closer inspection the tomato half is cooked on its face yet the skin side is fridge cold I get this pretty much 100% of the time. The sausages are 'award winning' but all you need to know is that there cooked in a deep fat fryer. On the whole not a bad deal but be prepared for a gut buster. The breakfast on its own gets a 3 star rating. Wetherspoon's as a chain gets a 1.5 stars Other people have remarked on various 'good deals' like the burger and a drink (NOW!) £5.99 but is that a good deal??? Strip out the drink (which includes a profit) and the burger is what about £3.20. For that you get a catering quality bun, 2 (if your lucky) thin slices of tomato, a small lettuce leaf, ring of onion, 7/8 chips, a small pot of relish and a burger thats mostly filler. Sorry but thats not good value in my book! read more

I ate breakfast here the other day. About the only time I ever eat breakfast anywhere close to breakfast time is after having been awake for several days straight, so I probably wasn't at my most coherent, but I still feel that didn't quite warrant the welcome I received. I could tell the waitress thought I was probably on drugs, homeless or both, and she eyed me with suspicion and was awkwardly curt as she took my order. It came to under £2, so I paid with a fiver and told her to keep the change in an act of spite tipping to see if she'd act any nicer to me. She did manage to stutter out a "Thanks", and that was the end of our transaction. So, I ordered a latte and the porridge with berry compote. Both arrived luke warm. The latte was flavourlessly milky and the compote was overly sweet and honestly tasted exactly like the stuff you find in a Muller Fruit Corner. The only reason I am not giving this place 1 star is because the interior is very pleasant and cosy- the upstairs section was nicely secluded and comfortable. Also, I have neither tried their lunch and dinner fare as far as food goes, nor have I had a drink here, so it'd be unfair to preemptively judge them on that... Somehow though, I think I won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

We had just come back into town from the Oxford United game and thought that after a 3-2 loss, things could not get any worse. But upon entering the four candles, things got much worse. We ordered three starters for 10£, and we were looking forward to our food. We got two varieties of chips and small gourmet nachos. We waited with anticipation. The food finally arrived at our dirty table which we suspect had not been cleaned since the late middle ages. There was some snot on it and we had to wipe it away ourselves. When we confronted the waiters about the snot we were told to 'get lost', die in a hole and eat 'sh**'. We tucked into our sh** which arrived promptly. We were however flabbergasted by the Disastrous 'taste' of the curry chips. They were disgusting and should come with a health warning. I felt like throwing up and ny stomach felt violated. To call that a dish is like calling Putin a Democrat. Foolish. The nachos were bad as well. They had pathetic amounts of cheese on them. I've seen turds more appetising than those. Big goat turds. Weatherspoons management should be appalled and ashamed. I will not be returning with my custom. I will take my petrodollars elsewhere read more

Nice cheap pub to go on the weekend and drink with your friends. It gets very crowded and loud but the prices are worth it!

Came for a meal & a pint. Lovely pub atmosphere as you'd expect from a Wetherspoon establishment. Sky Tv was showing the usual sports channels. I had a meal deal which consisted of a burger & a pint of Ruddles beer, this only came to £4 something. Which is really good, although it is only limited to certain drinks. Fairly standard Wetherspoons pub. I've never been here specifically for a drink, but it is good for watching sport with a group of friends and judging by the atmosphere the drinks are alright. Good for a cheap filling dinner especially the fish and chips. Upstairs balcony area with dining tables and sofas for a quieter time. read more

I went there with a few friends for dinner one night, but some didn't bring their ID as we didnt know about its requirement after 7pm. The guy at the bar literally told us to f*ck off you're not welcome here, even if we only wanted food and no alcoholic drinks. We were all totally turned off by how rudely they treated their customers and stormed off to eat somewhere else. Another day I took my family here for dinner. The kids wanted some ice cream afterwards, so I went ahead to order. After about half an hour of waiting I went back to the bar to ask where their ice cream was, and was told "take your kids out, they're not allowed in at this time." I said "we came here to have dinner before and ordered ice cream half an hour ago, can we at least have what we paid for?" Then the pissed-off looking manager came and told us to leave with our children. When I argued back that we just had dinner and only wanted some ice cream for dessert which I had ordered HALF AN HOUR AGO, she told me not to talk to her like that and the bar will no longer serve me before hissing off. We never got our ice cream. Manners is obviously a strange term for them. The manager has absolutely no clue on how to run a proper establishment; the total lack of service and staff rudeness absolutely ruins it. My other friends have had similar experiences, being treated like trash. Worst service Ive ever seen in UK. I wont be going there again. Ever. read more

The prices are actually pretty reasonable (even on a student's budget) and there's a pretty good selection. Also I feel like it hits the right balance of liveliness and comfort that puts over most other places in the area. If I ever go back I would definitely go there again. read more

Worst service I have had in England. I took my family here for dinner this evening, and ordered dinner and drinks. After dinner, the children wanted pudding, so at 7:30pm, I queued to order simple brownies and ice cream. The order on the receipt was 7:45. At 8:10 I went back to the bar to ask where their ice cream was, and was told 'your children are not allowed in here past 8pm', at which I said, 'that's fine, but we've been waiting for their ice cream for 25 minutes'. I was dealing with Peter, the guy behind the bar, and he was great. He was running between the kitchen and myself trying to sort out the problem, and get my kids their ice cream. All I wanted was to take them home and get them to bed. While I was waiting at the bar for Peter to come back from the kitchen (for another 15 minutes), I was approached by a very rude woman who said 'your children are not allowed in here past 8pm'. At which I sighed and said 'yes I know this, but your staff messed up our order of ice cream, I don't want to be here, and one of your staff is trying to sort this outso really I don't need this right now.' The little rude woman (who turns out to be the manager, named Shaniqua or something to that effect), got aggressive, and told me not to talk to her like that (twice), and then said I was no longer to be served at the bar, and stomped off. Bottom line is that this is not a family friendly establishment. The management does not have a clue as to how to properly manage, which is evident by the lack of service, and communication with the kitchen. If it were not for her staff (Peter in particular), this review would have been much much worse. The food is okay, the price is cheap, but the service lacks, but that is due to management. Recommendation for Wetherspoons HQ fire Shaniqua and give Peter the management job, he understands how to deal with customers. And looking at the other reviews here, it sounds like I am not alone in this. read more

Out of the 2 spoons in the city I much preffer this one. The staff are friendlyish and the food is good. There is lots or seating space over 2 floors and has well maintained toilets. During the day the service is a lot better than at night when people are just having drinks. Prices for drinks and food are moderate/cheap and there are often plenty of deals and offers going. read more
