The best. Bookstores are always wonderful, but this place is extra special. Four eyed frog books is located in Gualala right on the ocean. It is a quiet, sleepy bookstore with a beautiful variety of books. We found some phenomenal cookbooks, murder mysteries, and art books we'd been looking for. The kids found books for themselves, too, and they have an entire section dedicated to teens. The people who work here are knowledgeable and nice, and were able to provide some good recommendations. We've owned and rented in The Sea Ranch for decades. When Four-Eyed opened we consistently enjoyed visiting and purchasing books. This time, with new ownership, the first stack of book covers depicted Trump with a severed head. Really??? Inclusivity? It's not what it used to be, warm and welcoming. read more

There is something special about The Frog (as it is affectionately known.) I've been to so many bookstores in my life and this is one of my favorites. Whenever I'm in the area, I must visit. I think part of what I like about this place is because of its size. Sometimes too many books can be overwhelming. The Frog has just the right amount. I also like that they have a small section of used books but they are good used books--books that people actually want to buy. I love the rocking chairs in the front window. Very inviting. I have been going in this bookstore sense it first opened. I always try and find a book to buy because online bookstores are hurting the bricks and mortar stores. I think I bought all the craft books and now that they don't seem to buy them anymore it makes it a little harder to find a book to buy. Last time I was in town I found several delightful children's books with little mice people in them. Love them. read more

My husband and I have been venturing up to Sea Ranch and Gualala as go-to vacation spots during COVID and beyond and I'm so happy we finally found Four-Eyed Frog Books. It's a charming little shop and I love that it's community-owned. While on vacation at Sea Ranch we stopped by Four-eyed frog to check it out-wow what a find! Great store and staff. Wonderful selection of books..When inquiring about a title the didn't carry the offered to order it and send to us back in the Bay Area. I went to four eyed frog looking for 2 books. They didn't even have them. However, that isn't something they can always control (with orders, shipping, and everything). Plus, everything was expensive. $30 for a hard cover book. Maybe just the way things are everywhere, but I think that $30 is a little pricey for a children's book. However, I like that I can read some of it before buying it. I can make sure it is what I want to get before spending the money. I liked it, but I think it deserves 3 stars. read more

Such a cute little book store, they had plexiglass and wore masks. They had an amazing selection of books, but the book that caught my eye was a complete set of the Grimm's fairytales. I also left a piece of pie and I really hope she enjoyed it. read more

Tiny but excellent bookstore in Gualala. The only bookstore for many miles in any direction. Somehow in the age of Amazon they continue to hang on by providing excellent customer service and promoting regional books and authors. Neat find! Tucked away behind studios and restaurants, found my new fav bookstore. Store manager was lovely and very knowledgeable of the area. I've long loved this small independent bookstore and look forward to visiting every time I stay at The Sea Ranch. The offerings are not limited to books. There are numerous other charming items for sale, including gift cards and beautiful notebooks, which line one of their walls. On a recent visit, my daughter and I received several informed and thoughtful recommendations from Rachel, who was extremely well read in YA and children's literature. We left with a phenomenal book my daughter is relishing (one we did not know about prior to entering Four-Eyed Frog). I am never disappointed after I visit this intimate store. Lovely local independent bookstore in Gualala. They have a good-sized section dedicated to the local area and local authors. They are great about promoting local authors and often host readings. In additional to books, they have a fun selection of cards and journals and a toy table with a nice mix of thoughtful toys for all ages. Proprietors are very friendly and helpful. Wonderful little bookstore in a small complex of shops and galleries. Excellent customer service and a well-chosen selection of books, cards, puzzles, and other bookstore staples. Unusually good children's section. The only reason I won't give them 5 stars is the incense burning in the store. It permeates both the air and the books. The Frog is a treasure! It is one of those places where a book lover just sighs and thinks, "Ah, I'm home!" There is a thoughtful selection of books, including books by local authors, which are wonderful and help deepen one's love of the area. And here's feel good fact! The original owners were selling and relocating. The beautiful community of Gualala, so loved it's bookstore and felt so strongly that it was integral to the quality of life there, that nearly two dozen community members got together to purchase their beloved bookstore in 2016. read more
