I can write like a fiend when someone is paying me, but picking up a weed whacker or a pair of tree loppers? They always feel like Herculean tasks well beyond my abilities. What's a big sissy to do? Look on Craigslist. *gulp* An ad that kept popping up there was S&T Landscaping so I called their number at the end of a work day and was connected to Ramsey, the very pleasant and upbeat owner. We chatted briefly, set up a time for him to do an estimate and then scheduled the work. Engaging someone from CL is always a crapshoot no matter how nice they seem (constant worry-will they even SHOW UP?!) but I had a good feeling about these folks. Turns out this is a small, well run, family owned and operated business. Ramsey kept in touch via text regarding their ETA and arrived on time. I walked them through the job and added I would not be upset, given the nature of the overgrowth, if they decided to decline the job. Not a problem from the owner whose motto is, "Your grass is high, then I'm your guy." While I had pre-warned my neighbors there might be early morning noise, I could not even hear the crew as they got to work. And work they did! Clean up yard work is not fun or easy, but they made it look like a (pardon the pun) walk in the park. No goofing off, no long water/juice breaks. I think the biggest "hindrance" to getting their work done was me and my incessant yakking to make sure they had everything they needed. Within a remarkably short time, what had been an urban jungle was transformed back into a shady, tidy little piece of the city of brotherly love and I was gob smacked with awe and delight when I viewed the fruits of S&T's labors. These folks were so positive, pleasant, courteous and diligent, I really wanted to hug them. They honored the quite reasonable estimate I had been given and it was worth every penny. No hidden fees, no surprise charges, no slacking off, no fake deals or feigned friendliness. All the cuttings, detritus and spent greenery were seamlessly gathered up and carted away, with not a leaf or root left behind. I did not have to lift a finger while they were there or after they left. My place looked better than it had in years! If your grass is high, if your weeds are giving you the heebie jeebies or if, like me, you just can't get it together to prune and mow and clip on a regular basis, get S&T Landscaping over to your plot ASAP. Joe dropped his crew off to handle a tricky clear out of a large tree that fell over in my yard…read more His crew did not do the work as Joe laid out. They left several large chunks of trunk (2 1/2 feet by 4' long) and said their saw chain broke but "don't worry they'll be back". They are still there. The biggest. most damaging problem is that instead of removing the fallen tree, they dumped a huge pile of trunk sections down an embankment at the rear of my property, then hid them with leafy branches. Joe took 3 weeks to return my call, and 2 months to come out and look at the problem. When he came out he said he didn't know what to do, but he'd call a guy. He came out with the guy, but they've never been back. He got sick. He got hurt. He was in rehab. Now, Joe does not seem to have a physical address where he can be reached, as my lawyer has tried. His website lists Elkins Park, but that is for a condo, where he has no connection for many years. There are many more reliable tree cutters than Joe Hughes Executive Branch- try someone else.
