To help compensate for this inconvenience, hotel staff did volunteer to help us upstairs with our bags. Also, the ice machine on the 2nd floor was not working forcing those of us staying on the 2nd floor to use the machines on either the first or third floors. Although there is a sign posted in the lobby stating that the property is smoke-free , the bench near the front door serves as a location for employees to hang out and smoke. So much for a smoke free property! Across the parking lot there is a a Best Western under construction so maybe competition will make this a better run Hotel. Parking in their spacious lot was free( there seems to be a trend towards hotels charging guests for parking) and our room was nice with a firm king size bed and microwave and fridge and a very capable air conditioner ; however our TV remote did not allow us to view a guide to see what channels had on at the same time ; we had to simply punch in channel numbers and watch what would come on the screen just like we used to do back in the 1970's ; unfortunately, the operation of our window blind was so bad that the cord snapped and we had to manually wrap the blind upon itself in order to allow light into the room. Getting something to eat was more difficult than it had to be. Yes, Braum's and Dairy Queen are ok; but so many restaurants in town have such petty hours of operation. Why open a restaurant if your only going to be open 3 hours a day? We decided on the Juba pizza bar on Sam Rayburn Drive more often than any other place simply because they're open seven days a week with a varied menu.

I waited for 10 min for someone to check me into the hotel.... I have to say it probably was not the ladies fault, she was cleaning up from leaks to the building from the rain. Then get to the second floor (after having to come back down to program my room key a second time), to the most awful smell in the hallway. Did get to sleep, came down to work out room and found some of the machines broke, no disaffection wipes to wipe down equipment with. Needed to print something for work and no ink in the printer. All in all a disappointing experience. I have to say it could be a decent hotel, just looks like poor management and training of employees.

They have lovingly restored Carleton House and amassed a collection of antique musical instruments, photographs, and other artifacts displayed throughout the home. The very informative tour included music played by Karen and Steve. I can't say enough about the breakfasts; Karen is an outstanding cook, and she was very considerate about our dietary restrictions. We ate in the music room in front of a cozy fire on a different set of beautiful china each day. The attention to detail everywhere was amazing: rose petals and chocolates in the room, wide selection of shampoos/conditioners/etc., fresh baked cookies on arrival, I could go on and on. We will definitely be back!

The location of the house is perfect, with the downtown square less then a five minute walk away. We enjoyed our evening stroll around the courthouse and coming back to home made cookies by Karen. Karen and Steve are amazing hosts, and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. They even showed off their music skills while we enjoyed our homemade breakfast!

Our expectations were well exceeded! We drove in from New Orleans for a wedding in nearby Honey Grove, TX - We didn't know the area well at all, and weren't sure when we could check-in so reached out on the Air B&B app. Responses were almost instant, and our hosts were very helpful in planning our itinerary. They greeted us at the door after the long 8 hour drive with a smile! The space is intimate, and I would say a museum of vintage decor, with a beautiful dining area where breakfast is served. We stayed in the Magnolia Room which was similarly decorated, and consisted of a study, a bedroom, and a bathroom (with two bathtubs!). It was very clean, stocked with extra towels, blankets, pillows, and bathroom necessities (soap, shampoo, conditioner, AND BUBBLE BATH etc.). The bed was VERY comfortable well. We had the choice of breakfast in our room or downstairs, so the first morning we had breakfast in our room (which made us feel like a king and queen), and the second we had breakfast in the dining area with our host Thomas. The food was wonderful in terms of both taste and presentation. (Instagram worthy)! We were extremely impressed with our stay, and would highly recommend to anyone passing through or visiting the area! We will be back!

The house is very clean, spacious, and very welcoming. The bedding was soft and there were plenty of blankets and pillows. Even though I had the house to myself (and Debbie) I stayed in my room and enjoyed the free wi-if. Debbie accommodated my food allergy as well. The GF coffee cake was out of this world. Which brings me to my wonderful breakfast. I'm a foodie and this hit the spot. Crisp bacon, caramelized sweet potatoes, scrambled eggs, fruit topped with cream sauce, and house made juice. You won't regret your stay here at Old Magnolia.
