The bagels are really good. I love their cream cheese and the bacon egg and cheese bagel. The only bad part is the very obvious judgement from the staff. Pretty rude and short for no reason. The only nice worker is a younger woman who I hardly see. But the older ones are pretty faux nice and have an air about them, very condescending. Their food is good, I wish they had nicer staff. Visited my brother in law the other day and grabbed some breakfast here. The little bakery is cozy with nice tables you can converse at or even work at. There is a large menu; however not all of it is available everyday. The friendly staff will let you know exactly what they don't have. My husband ordered a bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich while I got a Swiss bagel with veggie cream cheese. My husband said his sandwich was a bit dry and while my bagel was good the cream cheese did not have enough veggie to it to keep its name. We also got a couple pastries and lattes. Our lattes (green tea and chai) were pretty good. We also had pastries which we took to go. Both pastries the berry tart and the pistachio muffin were good. The Place Fourth Street Bakery and Cafe Liberty is located at 1255 4th St in Peru, Illinois. The Bakery and Cafe has indoor seating and is setup quite nicely. It features a drive thru. Parking is a little tight but usually adequate. The Menu/Food The bakery has a nice menu and the quality of the offerings is excellent! The muffins are delicious and the sandwiches are very good as well. The Ruben is not only delicious it is quite appropriately sized. The Service/Experience/Value The sandwiches are made to order but the turn around is relatively quick. We have always enjoyed a nice experience at the Fourth Street Bakery and Cafe. Fairly priced for the quality of the food and service provided. Highly recommend you stop in and give them a taste. read more

Bagels are great..But when the staff use the register, they need to put on gloves to make the bagels. I watched him do this almost 25 times from my table. They go from giving change out to making a bagel. I'm not in public health but this place will be shut down immediately if they were to do a spot inspection unannounced. read more

Met some family here after Thanksgiving and enjoyed the sandwiches and pastries. My wife had the chai tea which is what she orders when she goes to a coffee shop usually. She said it tasted a little on the "potpourri" spectrum of chai tea flavors. My SIL ordered a hot drink that was not served to her hot and needed to be warmed up, but she enjoyed the flavor. I have driven by the Fourth Street Bakery for years and never stopped; boy was I missing out! I believe this used to be a Panera bread back in the day so the transition to bakery wasn't to much of a stretch. They offer a large selection of delicious coffee and tea, if you find a flavor that is to die for you can pick up some packages to take home. The food menu is nothing but pastry, if your looking for soups and sandwiches this place is not for you. That being said food looks and smells delicious. So why four stars? Space they simply do not have enough space, in the cafe area or in the parking lot for that matter. If your grabbing some Joe for the road I recommend the drive through save your self the hassle in parking and inside. read more

SLOWEST service in the world. I literally could feel the time passing waiting in line - not during what would be a rush anywhere else - for a few bagels. We were there before noon and there were two people in front of us. There were literally more people behind the counter than waiting in line and it took over 15 minutes to get 6 PLAIN bagels without any cream cheese or cutting or toasting, to go. The sign outside claims to have the "best" bagels, and they are good, but they are NOT authentic. These are not the crispy/crunchy/chewy ones that you get at a real bagel place in the city. read more

Best bagel I've had in a long while! The lite veggie cream cheese was really yummy too, with an iced Republic of Tea on the side. We stopped here twice during our overnight stay in Peru. The tastiness was nice, but I have to admit, the bright sunny atmosphere is what really brought us back. The restaurant , including the ladies room, was clean and fresh. The wait staff was friendly, and orders were ready quickly. We look forward to returning! read more

We had doctor appointments at the nearby ivch medical complex so stopped in here for a morning breakfast roll, almost no cars parked in the lot but the drive thru was packed. My wife went in to get us each a danish, guess what no danish, this is because they make nothing here but coffee. My wife returned with two machine made perfectly identical half raw generic cinnamon flavored full of preservatives institutional food product from a national supplier that I would have been embarrassed to sell if it was my business. What a disappointment, this is just a drive thru coffee shop no fresh bakery here, you would be better of with a hostess cupcake than this crap! read more

As a local person who has visited this place tons of times. Their bagels are handmade every morning and they are very very very good. However, the owner is as rude as they come. Some days she is nice and other days shes like a vicious tiger. I have stopped going for a few months because of her before, but the bagels keep calling me back. You should know that after spending over $10 on 2 bagels and coffee, coffee refills are 51 cents. Also, there was a new staff member who was hustling (they were getting busy), and had rung up a soon-to-be drive up order on the register then left it without clearing the register. The older woman behind the counter remarked out loud to the third employee that this 'new girl isn't as good as we thought, we have to keep an eye on her'. That's just rude. I came here every couple weeks for a semester while at community college. Their bagels are great! A little under toasted but great! However their staff needs work. They look at you like you are stupid and they seem bothered by customers. I work in the service business, so maybe I expect better service than most. But this place has bad service. A worker rolled their eyes at me one time when I asked for a different type of bagel. I was a consistent tipper as well, hoping if I tipped them maybe they would like me more and I would get better service. Better service never happened.
