My family went to the Fox and Goose for a Christmas day dinner and were left hugely disappointed. We booked months in advance and paid £10.00 per person for the deposit. There were three of us. In December we then paid the full amount which was fairly high of £57.95 per person but believed that we would be getting quality food and service.
When we arrived there was one member of staff in the foyer pouring out drinks of wine and orange but it wasn't clear if these were complimentary drinks or not and no one greeted us. Eventually we managed to stop the poor girl who was the waitress (there was only her and one other fella to serve all the tables) and get our table.
As a starter we all picked the tomato soup which was okay nothing to write home about but it was nice so we were hopeful about the main course. We were supposed to get a fruit sorbet afterwards and had clearly been forgotten about while others who came after us were served theirs straight away. My mother then asked the girl where ours was and she said she'd get them for us, we had waited over 25 minutes so far which is unacceptable. When she came back with them mine and my fathers was nearly completely melted and my mother received a small champagne sorbet as they'd run out of the other.
Then our main meal came which was a shambles. We had ordered a crown of turkey with "all the trimmings" but instead we got processed meat from the supermarket, brussel sprouts which were rock hard, one flew off the plate when I tried to put the fork in it, a few carrots from a packet in a supermarket and barely any gravy. No broccoli, cauliflower etc. The meal was also cold.
Meanwhile my dad asked for a glass of orange (he was driving) and two glasses each of wine for me and my mother. Not once did she tell us the price and other customers were doing the same presuming they were in with the price. We assumed that as they were the most expensive restuarant in the area for xmas day that we'd at least get one complimentary glass of wine which is the norm.
Anyway I left some of my food behind and some of the turkey I put in a container to give to my dog when I got home. We expected the turkey to have been carved from a turkey at the premises, not cheap sliced turkey from the supermarket.
When we decided to leave when we were outside the premises nearly to the car the owner there comes out asking if we'd had some wine, my dad went back in and was charged more money. My dad was happy to pay for the second round of drinks we ordered and had simply forgotten as no one had bothered to bill us but what was appalling was that we were charged for the intial drinks we had when we first got there that we believed were complimentary ones. I believe other customers thought the same as no one told us otherwise and we'd already paid a large amount of money for a second rate meal. The customers on the table in front of us even left half a glass of wine behind thinking it was in with the price but were probably in for a surprise when they left in the foyer. Another customer laughed his head off when his sprouts went flying as they hadn't been cooked properly. I was really looking forward to this meal, it was our first time having a Christmas day meal out rather than at home. But it was greatly over priced and the service was poor, no fault of the young lady who was the waitress, they just didn't have enough staff on and were very badly organised.
Suffice to say we won't be going back there for Chritsmas day dinner ever again!!!!! read more
