Never would I ever rent from this particular franchise ever again. Im not sure about Routes in…read moregeneral, but this specific establishment was an embarrassment. Upon arrival in YEG, the rental location was called and a vehicle was sent to fetch us from the airport to take us to the rental location. Once we arrived, the driver of the vehicle proceeded to go behind the counter and proceeded to act as the rental agent. The location was tucked in the back part of a disheveled gas-station, almost un-recognizable. The rental vehicle were haphazardly parked on a gravel parking lot nearby. On our reservation we selected 12:00pm for the arrival time, but as everyone knows, flights are unpredictable and after waiting to be picked up, we got to the location about 1:05pm. The attendant pulled up our reservation number and told us that THEY WERE OUT OF CARS, and that it was our fault that we are late and that it didn't matter that we had a reservation, they were simply OUT OF CARS. After a fierce debate (also there was a gentlemen behind us who was also about to be told the same information) we were given a "complimentary upgrade" to a mini van. Had a wanted to rent this instead of a sedan, I would have, but this was the only option given to us. Mini van, or no vehicle at all. Fast forward to returning the vehicle. We had an early flight, so we had to drop off our vehicle at 5am. We were told "Just park the car and give your keys to the gas station attendant." This seemed very odd, but we did as we were told, and then had to wait OUTSIDE in the rain whilst a shuttle came to take us to the airport. The shuttle driver drove like a crazy person but we eventually made it to the airport. NEVER EVER EVER RENT from this specific branch of Routes.

When we arrived…read morethey were closed and i was traveling with my 5 year old son and I am currently 8 months pregnant, temp outside was -18, my son had just fallen and scraped his head right outside on the step while I was struggling with all of our baggage. When I knocked on the door a lady came and said very rudely, we are closed, I said my son just fell can we at least come in and warm up. She was still short and rude and when I asked about an airport shuttle she told me we needed to walk to the hotel, which was two hotels over, in the cold with all our luggage to catch a shuttle. I asked if I could call for the shuttle to come get us and even after my son falling, the temp outside and I was clearly not happy she said, we aren't supposed to, still with the same rude tone. While this was happening another employee came in, a man, didn't offer any help to us at all and proceeded to start the car we had just returned to check it back in. No offer of a ride or help with luggage or anything. When picking up my rental no one mentioned to me that they would not be open at 9 am and that the shuttle would be at a nearby hotel, had they mentioned this I would have allowed time for this and would have been prepared. But instead this was all a surprise and staff was rude and unhelpful.

Originally I had rented a Chevy spark or equivalent. But prior to booking through Costco, I tried requesting android auto just for the easy navigation and bluetooth integration. When we arrived we were assigned a Toyota Corolla which was better but would not have android auto. Charlie made it possible moving us to a Ford hybrid with leather interior. I was impressed with the hybrid. We had travelled like 800km and I managed to get by with a full tank of gas which was about 60L of gas. That was fantastic. A regular car, you would need 120Lof gas. My only feedback was the car filter and cleanliness of the car. We just felt there were some weird stains. The car filter...the air felt...stagnant and dusty in the cab.

I called customer service and tried repeatedly to telephone the Edmonton Alamo number (no one answered the phone, ever!) I was told by customer service (from somewhere, I know not) they couldn't find the glasses but on my third visit to the site I was told someone from Edmonton would call me. Never happened. Those are expensive prescription sunglasses of use to no one else. And, I know, ABSOLUTELY, they were left in the vehicle. Somehow they have gone missing. An otherwise excellent vehicle rental through Alamo has been tarnished by this experience.

I said i had reserved a small truck and when i confirmed my reservation it said vehicle was available. He said they don't generally have any. The truck they provided was a nice truck however it was equipped with a V8 and the truck i had reserved would of had a 4 cylinder, which affected the amount of fuel i had to pay for . While returning the truck i was asked how i liked my rental, to which i said other then being a bigger vehicle then i reserved it was ok. It would of been nice to of been offered come compensation for being given a larger vehicle. Only other down side was the truck was not equipped with snow tires, being winter, luckily i didnt not have any issues

I phoned in for a rental. got the rental booked as I was an hour away. I drove the hour and some to get there and when I pulled on the door the door was locked. an employee was in their vehicle leaving and asked if I needed help. I told them that I had a rental booked and I mentioned when booking I was going to be late. they said there is nothing they can do and told me to come back Monday and then the employee left. As we were sitting in our vehicle trying to call to see what we can do we seen another employee pull in and go in the bay door but would not open the door so we can talk to them. I don't understand how you can book a vehicle, say that you will be a bit late and be assured that it's fine but when you get there its all locked up. we ended up getting a rental from the airport but there was no mention of this location from the employee which would have been helpful as well. nope they just wanted to go home for the Easter Long Weekend. very disappointed and would not recommend this location to ANYONE!!

I had a horrible experience with this location. I rented a car for a few days and picked up late at…read morenight. We did not do a good walk around, but the car looked fine and had not major damage. The next day, I noticed a smal dent on the door (about 1" diameter). I should have called it in, but I rent cars pretty often and have never had an issue with something that minor. When I return the car, they inspected it very, very closely. Almost looking for things to report. They saw the dent and I told them it was there when I got the car. They forced me to file a report and gave me no other option. Since I had a flight, I couldn't stay and argue. Two months later, I get a bill for nearly $400!! In it there is a letter saying they passed on savings to me acting like this would have been more. There is no way ever that reparing a tiny dent would cost that much. They sent along pictures that don't show if it was fixed because there is glare form the sun. For all I know they didn't even fix it. What they did was dishonest and horrible service to their customers. NEVER rent from this company. If you do, you be document every single mark on the car your expect a large bill with charges that don't make sense. I will be filing a formal complaint with the company.

The guy didn't know how to add a driver, adjust my return time, and add an airline mileage number. He also charged me an additional driver fee when it's free with Costco. He obviously didn't know what he was doing but the staff next to him barely tried to help Instead, they asked me to just take the contract and they'll fix everything later. No way! I was so frustrated at the end. When the contract finally printed out, he was still sarcastically taking his time with tearing the edges off and folding the paper. I really wanted to scream at that point! Worse yet, the senior staff at the end told me "This is good, you're giving him real life training for the job". NO! That's not my job, it's yours! It's just a matter of time before they get a customer who's not as patient....

Booked and prepaid for a car with winter tires one week in advance for a Christmas holiday drive…read morethrough the rockies. Just had ankle surgery, and couldnt drive my manual transmission, so I figures that renting an automatic with winters would be a good alternative. Arrived at Budget location to pick up the rental, and was only then informed that they did not have a car for me. Additionally, in order to not get charged, I was told that I had to personally call in to a 1 800 #, sit on hold for 15 minutes, and then have the Supervisor I spoke with hang up on me as soon as I said the word cancel. Atrocious customer service. Not offered any help or compensation. And an overall complete waste of time. Dont rent with these bozos.
