The station features audible and visual announcements of the trains in both directions. Roxbury Crossing is between Jackson Square (outbound) and Ruggles (inbound).

The station is primarily built out of bricks, glass, concrete and stainless steel to compliment an aesthetically pleasing waiting experience. Alongside the structures materials, the station features displays of artwork in the atrium nearby the fare gates. The platform itself is an island platform with most of the waiting area covered by the overhang that is part of the station. There is plenty of seating space on the platform and during a rainy day the platform overhang keeps you dry. The end of the station features an amazing view of the trains rolling down the tracks towards the station. Definitely my most favorite part of this station is the end of the platform. Overall Roxbury Crossing Orange Line station is a great station. One of my personal favorites!

Trains depart about every 8-10 minutes but I suggest using the transit map on the Iphone for times as it's pretty accurate.

Parking is free, which is rare for MBTA stations. However, there are fewer spots compared to most…read morecommuter rail stations, making it difficult to find parking. The station is not accessible, so if you can't climb the narrow stairs to board the train, this isn't an option. Like many other stations, it lacks a departure board and instead has a sometimes inaccurate scrolling display estimating train arrivals. I do like that there's only one platform, which eliminates the guesswork of choosing the right one. Trains not at the platform simply open the doors facing it, allowing you to cross the tracks. One downside: sometimes doors open right onto the street by the crossing arm, even when there's space on the rest of the platform.

A ride on this reliable and off the beaten path route will take you directly to the best pizza in Somerville (the Paddock), will dump you in front of the Cock Block (Woody's, Wang's and Pini's) at Magoun Square, and dump you in Ball Square so you can get some REAL kick ass cupcakes at Lyndell's. I don't take this out much past Powderhouse, but it's a nice semi-scenic longway alternative to get to Arlington if you don't want to deal with tempestuous 87.

I'm 28 and do not have a driver's license…read more This is no mean feat especially given that I grew up in New Jersey where you are practically shoved into the driver's seat at the stroke of midnight on your 16th birthday. How I've managed this is largely due to never moving far from the reach of SEPTA when I lived outside of Philadelphia and then MBTA when I moved up to Boston. But the MBTA has not made staying car-less these past six years easy. But I will save my negative comments of those routes for other reviews because the #80 bus line is a shining example of all that can be wanted from a bus route! I first dabbled with the 80 to get to work when I lived outside of Magoun Square on days where the 101 was not cutting it for me. Despite several on-time and smooth trips to Lechmere laziness won out when I was living at my old place and I generally ended up riding the 101 to Sullivan Station to get to work because the stop was right in front of my house while the 80 was a ten minute walk away. Happily, when I moved to our new place in April I found out that the bus line that runs in front of our house was the 80. Since moving, my commute to work has improved drastically. Unlike other bus lines, when I used the MBTA trip Planner their estimated arrival times for the 80 were ALWAYS accurate within 3-4 minutes. "Bang on time" could be the motto of the #80 bus if the motto was being written by a blue haired old lady. Add to that in one route you can go to the Cambridge side galleria mall, connect with the green line into Boston, drop by Magoun square, Ball Square or Powderhouse Square, for amazing places to eat (respectively: Old Magoun Saloon, Ball Square Café, and Yoshi's), pop into the outer reaches of Davis Square or just take it all the way to the end and explore Arlington's fun main square. I have done all of these things and have never been late to work thanks to the 80. So if you ever need a positive experience with MBTA jump on the 80....

Waited curbside at 4:15 AM. Nothing. 4:30 Am, nothing. 4:40 AM called and got answering machine. I received a call at 4:45 from "Samir". He asks, "What time do you need to be at the airport?" told him 5:30 (45 minutes). He said he was on his way. Asked him twice, where are you? He said he was a Logan and on his way to pick my up - ahh, I don't think so. Called Uber and was on my way in 10 minutes. No call from anyone. I called to make sure they were aware of the situation. NEVER AGAIN!

I really like this little airport for a lot of reasons. I first used it many years ago (in the 90s)…read morewhen I had an important customer in Westborough, MA that I visited a few times. It was so much more hassle-free than Logan at that time. Even though Logan has improved a bit as far as terminating and originating accessibility, ORH is still my port of choice if I am working west of Boston. This small 6-gate airport has sometimes struggled to maintain regular passenger service. But Delta (NY LGA), American (PHL) and JetBlue (3 FL destinations) currently operate out of here, and hopefully it continues to maintain at least minimum viability. The airport served just shy of 230K passengers in 2024. Another reason I like this airport beyond the huge advantage of hassle-free travel is the fact that it is small and easily navigable. It allows easy check-in and security clearance with TSA people who are actually pleasant to interact with. The downsides to that, of course, are that there are far fewer amenities at this airport and far fewer flight options. However, the size of this airport means that I can arrive for my flight with far less time buffer compared to a large airport like BOS. In that case, the amenities become less important. There is a convenience store/food bar behind security where you can grab a coffee, soda or snack. That's all you really need at a place like this. It's also a pleasant, clean and modern facility. The facade is fairly attractive and the interior is quite nice. If I read correctly, I don't think this is the same building I used in the 90s when I first flew into this airport. But I was impressed with the facade even then given the size of the airport. With regard to logistics, I do have to connect to get to ORH. As a Delta afficianado who uses Detroit as my home airport, I always have an intermediary stop at NY LaGuardia. But given the advantages I experience on the other end, usually it's worth it. There are rental car facilities at ORH and it offers easy get-away (and return, as previously noted). However, my last trip revealed the negative aspect of this as we flew from LaGuardia all the way to the Worcester area and they would not let the plane land due to low visibility (I understand that fog is not an infrequent problem here). We turned around going back to LGA. The flight was canceled and I ended up having to re-book to Logan and driving to Worcester (fortunately late at night with no traffic...tip in case this happens to you: if I had it to do over, I would have flown to Providence instead). This was not a positive experience. But in the grand scheme of things, this is the classic case of a "first-world problem". I keep it in perspective. While overall I am a big fan of this airport with the caveats already noted, there is one infrastructure gripe that I have. Most airports, even small ones, are generally easily accessible via a major thoroughfare (a highway of some sort). This one and Lansing (Michigan) are the only two that I have used which I would classify as out-of-the-way. It seems like it requires a long drive through traffic-light controlled roads and Massachusetts traffic (some of the worst in country due to populaton density). There is a bus to the city that is at the airport hourly between 1:15 PM and 6:15 PM, but that does not make up for it. Beyond this one primary complaint, however, I view this airport as a very nice alternative to the crowded mega options. I wish it a long and happy business viability with prosperity and growth (not too much!). It serves an important purpose and I hope it continues to do so. Let's hope airlines continue to view this with general perspective and less ivory-towered, cold and calculated finance perspective that is often far too narrow. Sometimes, bean counters need to remember that Main St. can be more important than Wall St.
