Long before there was Fong & Associates, there was Ray Frew (now retired) of Frew & Associates. I started having Frew & Associates do my tax work in about 1982. Frew & Associates grew into Rosenthal, Pearson, Fong and Few back in maybe the mid '90s. And now Merrietta Fong and her team have taken over the firm and given it a new name. I'm still having them do my taxes, and will, up to and after retirement in the not too distant future, and now our sons get their taxes done by them. It's one of the longest business relationships I've had in my life, come to think of it... happy being a 30-year-plus customer. If you're looking for a tax consultancy at the top of their game, fair and trustworthy, you can't do much better.

I was referred to Cindy from a friend so I didn't think I…read moreneeded to read reviews but after my experience I went back and saw some of my issues are common through her office. I had some complicated tax issues and was hoping to get some clarity so I met with her and gave her my letters and tax forms. She gave me an OUTRAGEOUS quote to begin and I told her I wouldn't be able to pay the full amount up front so she agreed that she would hold my documents until I saved up money to get started. We filed for Power of Attorney so she could dive deeper, in the meantime. I called her a couple months later to let her know I was ready to begin but had to leave a message. Note that every time I called her I had to leave a message. No one answers the phone, EVER. I called back several times after that and left many messages. Never ONCE did I receive a call back. Once I received a letter saying my Power of Attorney was denied (that was on me because I was traveling and didn't return the response letter for approval before the deadline). I called to talk to her about that and left another message. Again, I received no call back. Many months after our first and only meeting, I called so I could pick up my files. I actually thought she might have gone out of business due to no response. I don't live in her area but on this particular day I was nearby so I decided to drop by and speak to someone in person. When I walked in she was on the phone so I stood by the door out of respect for privacy. She didn't acknowledge me for a few minutes while she continued speaking of business matters to someone on the phone. Eventually she held the phone in the air and YELLED, in a tone of annoyance, from her back office where I could halfway see her at her desk "I'm on the phone, what do you need?" I told her I left her a message earlier in the day and wanted to pick up my files. She proceeded to yell at me that she was on a call and couldn't help me so I had to come back later. I asked when was a good time and she told me 15 minutes so I said "I don't live nearby so I'd like to wait, if that's ok". She was clearly frustrated and got back on the phone. I heard her conversation as she told the person on the phone that I was there and it sounded like the person on the phone told her to go ahead and help me and she said "Sure, ok, I'll call you back". She got off the phone and was SO RUDE with an accusatory tone. I started to feel bad for being there. She said she got my message earlier and that she looked for my files but she didn't have them. She went on to say that I picked them up from her because I couldn't pay for her services. My mouth dropped because that was NOT AT ALL WHAT HAPPENED! I reminded her I've only met with her once. She said she's looked for my files before when I called in the past and was never able to find them (yet she NEVER ONCE CALLED to let me know that). I was shocked. Mind you, she was yelling at me and pacing around her office looking around. I told her I really hope my files are there somewhere and she finally asked me to give her a couple more days to look for them since her assistant wasn't there and she might know where they were. I left wondering what my legal rights were if she lost all my files. Holly, her assistant, FINALLY called me a couple days later saying she had my files and they were ready for pick up. Never once did I hear from Cindy. DO NOT TRUST HER WITH YOUR TAXES. She's rude, outrageously expensive, and unorganized. After doing my research on her I found she's only a CFP, not a CPA. A CFP specializes in personal financial planning, including investments, retirement, and estate strategies. A CPA, on the other hand, focuses on tax planning, accounting and business financial management. Maybe she was just out of her league with my challenging taxes and couldn't handle it? Too embarrassed to let me know so she never called me back? Lost my files and hoped I would just forget and wouldn't come back for them? On top of that, yelling at me, as if I was in the wrong, when I only wanted to get my files back! Whatever the reason, she's very unprofessional on all levels. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I take responsibility that it took this long to hire a new CPA but when we first worked together in 2022 it was no issue. I have paid these people to file my returns and here we are MONTHS and MONTHS later and theyre ghosting me. Prior to being ghosted i was working with 3 different assistants and each time it felt like i had to start all over. I chose this person as they were a referral, but i regret that deeply now. Dana has been our accountant and has always filed our taxes on time with only minor issues, a.k.a. kids college credits. The past the last few years my husband done the taxes himself On Turbo. My husband passed and in March I asked Dana to do my taxes again because I'm just too overwhelmed to do it myself. I was told they don't have time to do it before April 15th because they don't work in the month of April. The whole office takes that month off for vacation. They filed an extension so I can do my taxes after April.. In May, I called for an appointment so they can finish my taxes Because it was after their vacation time. I was told they don't have any appointments available and Dana can't do my taxes. So now after losing my husband and being under that stress, I have to find another accountant. This is beyond disappointing And so unprofessional, I really just don't believe it. I wish they were just honest and told me in March that they couldn't do my taxes instead of stringing me along.
