I was planning to have my taxes done with Sam, of "Jarrar & Associates CPAs", although it never happened. I spoke to Sam on the phone and we went over everything involved with my taxes and he gave me a price that we then agreed on. Sam seemed like a nice guy on the phone and thought I found a new account. I was told because of COVID no in-person appointments, and everything was to be done electronically. Once I uploaded everything to their website I received an email to pay via PayPal, a different larger amount, to be paid in full prior to Sam starting on my taxes. I replied saying that Sam and I already agreed on a price and in my past experience I have always pay when my taxes are done. I was told by the woman that the price Sam gave me was only an estimate, and once they receive the uploads they adjust prices accordingly. I feel that the bait and switch scam is completely unacceptable, and also not very cool wasting people's time, uploading all their personal information, and trying to take advantage, or possibly scam them. They should be ashamed of their business conduct and ethics. Just my experience that I felt that I should share. read more

I came to Sam with about every significant tax issue one could have: A few years prior I had a BK, property short sales, the IRS & State Board of Equalization were reviewing my situation, 2 tax levies placed on my bank accounts, a small business with no formal books (for three years) and, well, you get the picture. Sam & his team got to work immediately. There was clear communication all the way through the process (which took months) He proposed a fee in the beginning, and he stuck with it.
