Wow what a find!! Thanks YELP! Went here for a business dinner on a Wednesday night. Only a few tables occupied. So the place was not noisy at all. Also no blaring music in the background which I really liked. We were waited on by Sarah. Just an awesome individual. So friendly and attentive. Also cute as a button as the old folks say. :-) She guided us through the menu and also made a few suggestions which we went with. We started with an app - cheese curds served with a sriracha dipping sauce. There is no way I was in Indiana. :-). The cheese curds were legit! They have a solid drink menu. We got the bare knuckles porter and an espresso martini. The martini was fantastic. No actual espresso so no caffeine. Not bad! My main was a BYO Burger. A top 10 burger for me. Smashed style and cooked perfectly with the lacy, crusty edges. I got the following - cheddar, bacon, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, fried egg, jalapeños and fried egg. Absolute money! For a side I got the truffle fries ($5 up charge) but well worth it! So damn good. This place is a gem and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I hope to be back to the area to try it again. read more

I love that these old Main Street buildings get new lives. Inside was clean and pretty clutter free. Our server was friendly and the menu is pretty big. Owner of Whimsey recommended this place. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but this experience really missed the mark. We went in with a group and were shocked when the bill came. The restaurant automatically added a 20% gratuity--but never mentioned it upfront or when handing us the check. Because of that, we unknowingly added an additional tip, which made the total way higher than expected. When we questioned it, the waitress couldn't clearly explain the charges or provide a proper breakdown of the receipt. Instead of helping, she became defensive and came off as rude, which only made the situation worse. I have no issue with automatic gratuity for larger parties, but not being transparent about it feels misleading. A simple heads-up would have avoided all of this. Between the lack of communication and poor service when we asked about it, the whole experience left a bad taste. Double-check your bill if you go here. read more

We were very busy the weekend of March 13 so we went twice and whoever was cooking did a phenomenal job as well as the bartender. However when we went back on March 18 we were so disappointed we paid $20+ for our salads and they were so pitiful. I ended up coming home and cooking us a small meal. I was hoping there would be one restaurant in Crawfordsville that had decent food but this was just pathetic. Also, the bruschetta appetizer is not portioned. You get enough tomato's for 2-3 pieces of bread so we had 4-5 pieces of toast that didnt get used for appetizers. They are trying to be fancy and failing miserably at it. read more

So, I want to be clear that the wife and I are probably not the demographic that this place is targeting. This review will not be relevant for everyone. We stopped in for a quick Lunch on a Friday. To start, this is a bar with a restaurant so if you're prepared for that you'll be fine. I found the music to be extremely irritating for a restaurant. Which means that everyone has to talk loud to each other. It isn't a bad atmosphere just not very relaxing. The food was delicious, staff was friendly and efficient. The wife got the "chicken parm" an I ordered the "hot chicken" pasta. . Both came quickly and were fresh. Dessert was small to share but good, just normal cheesecake. All I all it was a nice meal. Stopped in to grab lunch, had the fish and "chips" and was thrilled. Batter was perfectly crunchy, fish was firm and tasted wonderful. Fries were a pleasant surprise, seasoned, great balance of crispy outside and fluffy inside. Garlic aioli had the right amount of garlic, could tell it was there but didn't overpower. Service was prompt and food came out quickly. Bar area seemed to be a cool area, but had several loud tables so we sat in the family dining area, which was quite a bit quieter. Although a little tough to find, it's worth the effort!! The black letters on the window aren't visible when driving up and down the street so just look for the chairs out front on the corner and keep looking!! From the minute we walked in, the bartender made us feel welcome and right at home. Several regular customers were there also, definitely giving the place a homey feel. It's an elevated home but a home nonetheless! The decor is crisp and clean without being cluttered and overwhelming. Anthony Bourdain on the wall ensures excellent food and even better conversation! We had the cheese curds, chicken wrap and fish and chips. Everything arrived quickly and definitely cooked to order, it was all piping hot and fresh. I had the chicken fettuccine and my friend had the salmon. Both were delicious. I also had a lemon drop martini. The rim of the glass had both sugar and salt and it made it very unique and yummy. We had a party of six and they added the tip into all of our checks and our waitress didn't tell anyone. We finally got around to visiting this restaurant for lunch. Therefore, my review is based on lunch. We went into the restaurant area and went to checkout the bar. We decided to have lunch there. To our surprise Harry Carry greeted us as a huge mural on the wall. I could actually hear him leading everyone in singing 'take me out to the ballgame' during the 7th inning stretch at a Cubs game. The Molly Melt to be exact. Big double burger with (you will just have to go see for yourself) Hubs has the Steak Frites. What is that you may ask. Again, go try it. Have you tasted aioli? Me either. Our lunch was served with fries and aioli for a dip! Awesome combination! And, it can be purchased at the store! We did!! I must say the highlight of the afternoon was our bartender/hostess. That is Kimberly with a Y! Now if you haven't had the opportunity to meet Kimberly with a Y (she has a nice tat), I will post her picture here. She knows her business. She makes a mean tall black russian (get a double) and handy with the bourbon bottle to pour a bourbon on the rocks!! Kimberly with a Y has quite a sense of humor. By now, you are probably running to your car to head for Crawfordsville and rush to Francis & Mount. We will go back if not to try more on the menu then to say hi to Kimberly with a Y. We visited Francis and Mount today and I must say it was a disappointment. The menu is rather small and the food expensive. It was lunch time and we had hoped to try the fish and chips. But the price for 1 piece of fish and fries was $16.99. It was $4.99 for an extra piece. We ended up ordering a burger with peanut butter and a wrap with chicken and bacon with ranch dressing. Neither were anything special and they charged $14.99 each. The fries that came with them were just shoe string potatoes and actually were salty. The wrap would have been better had they put in some tomato's and onions as it lacked much texture. The bacon was hard and dry and in places it was hard to chew it. The total bill was $37 and with tip $45. Pretty expensive lunch for nothing special. We won't be going back. I will say the waitress was good and kept our drinks refreshed. read more

This place was so cute! We are from out of town and wanted a yummy dinner after a day of hiking at Shades State Park, and Francis & Mount did not disappoint! My partner and I walked in and were greeted promptly. They asked if we had a reservation, and we did not, but we were still seated immediately. The hostess even checked to see if the bar was loud (I have trouble talking to others in loud spaces) while we were trying decide if we wanted to sit in the dining room or the bar. We picked the dining room per her advice. I got a strawberry lemonade with vodka. It was tasty but not very strong. For dinner, we both ordered specials from the adorable strawberry week special menu. My partner got the strawberry chicken sandwich and said it was delicious. I got the strawberry fish tacos, which I was SO excited for. I'm vegetarian so sometimes it can be hard to find tasty food, especially if you haven't been there before and don't know the menu. Unfortunately, the only reason this wasn't a 5 star review was because the fish in the tacos was EXTREMELY salty. I still ate them, but I believe there was a big mistake in the kitchen. Way too much old bay was used! My lips were tingling by the end of the meal! The side of fries with aioli were about $4 extra but they were tasty too. I hope to return in the future and get something a little less salty, because the service and overall vibe of Francis & Mount was great! read more

When you first walk in the place is plain and uninviting. There is the bar next door that may be moré welcoming, but we wanted a quiet dinner. No paper menus which is irritating for us. We like to be able to see everything on the menu and each be able to look at our own menu. Menus on our phone are too small and scrolling here there and everywhere you definitely miss items. They graciously offered us an iPad but only one so we each had to take turns. While we were there 3 other parties came in and asked for paper. All refused. Hubby got the buffalo chicken wrap which had a different interpretation of buffalo sauce. Definitely not what you would expect but still tasted good. I got the steak frites. The steak was cooked to order but no seasoning. I had to salt it. The aeoli sauce tasted tangy and exactly like their idea of ranch dressing for my salad. The dressing was horrible. Do not get the ranch dressing. It was good for the most part but not as good as the reviews said. Service was attentive but a tad creepy and personal. I do not recommend nor would I ever come back. When the first two things, atmosphere and menus put you off it leaves a bad taste. Lava cake had no lava inside. Bottom was hard as a rock. Like a dried up cake. Tasted grainy like a frozen cake put in the microwave. Sad. And for $12! But they graciously removed it from the bill. read more

My husband and I ordered takeout from Francis & Mount the other night and really enjoyed our meal! We both got the Stent Burger, which was delicious. Their fries were perfect and the aioli is amazing! I love a restaurant with good dipping sauces. The pepper jack mac n cheese that comes on the burger (or on the side in my case) had the perfect amount of kick! Besides the food, though -- their takeout containers were nearly all made of recyclable materials! Environmentally friendly restaurants, we love to see them. The food is really good. I HIGHLY SUGGEST the smashed potatoes. I had the filet and it was cooked to perfection. "The kitchen closes at 9pm" is what one of the bartender/waitresses repeated to the point our table kinda joked about it. But if you order and get your food at say 845, finish at 9 chat it up for a couple minutes and go to order cheesecake. The kitchen closes AT 9pm. So I couldn't review that even though I really wanted to because they have the menu on your phone with pictures... but The kitchen closes at 9pm. I'm really confused why this place has the rating it does. Crawfordsville desperately needed a place like this and I thought the food was delicious. I was able to make a reservation online to dine outside, it was clean, and the staff was super professional. We were able to sit socially distant from others and Kimberly was our waitress. She was friendly, checked up on us frequently, and made our visit fun! The food was great! They have an array of burgers, appetizers, and bites but I'd say the highlight of their menu (the items I need to have next time) are salmon, NY strip steak, and the filet mignon. I recommend this place. It's a nicer dining place in Crawfordsville. Save your trip to Lafayette, Indy, etc., and dine local here! Awesome place! read more
