Great Americana cuisine! The food was excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly and I was asked by waitress to double check just in case. Server was very kind and gave the small town treatment. Their homemade hot sauce is a perfect blend of smoky and fruity tones of flavor with the perfect amount of spice. Their toast is full of buttery yumminess and pairs well with any breakfast item. The chicken rice soup tastes better than you expect. You get a real mom and pop experience with that nostalgic 80s family restaurant feel. I wish more places like this existed. read more

This spot is definitely a rural small town eatery; that lots of older locals frequent. Service was friendly but very casual & relaxed. Was heading to Beef House and they were unfortunately closed. Found this GEM and decided to give it a try and SO GLAD we did! Great atmosphere, great value and the best waitstaff. My wife loved the catfish, the Creamy chicken soup was amazing and my daughter loved the spaghetti. My daughter spilled her water and the wait staff all chipped in to clean it up and get it handled quickly and with smiles on their faces. A waitress (that wasn't even ours) came over and was showing my girl a trick for drawing flowers. So cool that she did that when she didn't need to. She even gave her the advice, "If you ever want to do something in life, just try!" Would highly recommend giving this local, family-owned restaurant a try if you're passing through like we were. read more

This is worth the 11 miles off the highway drive. Diner food, done well and our server Ada was delightful. This is small town at its best.

The food is always delicious and u get plenty of food for the price of the meal. The service is very good always checking to see if you need anything. Love both the Benjamins in Rockville, Indiana as in Covington,Indiana. All time favorite is Rockville, Indiana just because they sweet tater fries.. We stopped in here on our way from Illinois back home to Kokomo based on the Yelp reviews. We're so glad we did! We had the catfish and the spaghetti. Our food was delicious and the portions were generous. We both took leftovers home and they were enough for another meal. Our server was very personable and helpful. What a great place! Hubby and I are on our way home from Peoria, IL (more reviews on that later) and we made a snap decision to stop and grab some breakfast! Hopped on Yelp and what do you know - Benjamin's popped right up. Easy drive off I-74, headed in and was surprised to see there weren't more people dining considering the cars in the parking lot. All the staff was near the kitchen and after being "checked out", we were seated after being asked if a table was ok, which it was. Our waitress came over, we ordered our waters, then looked over the menus - skillets, omelettes, French toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon all your typical breakfast fare was there. The skillets and omelettes all sounded so good! The better half decided on the Hawaiian omelette and I, the Italian. All omelettes come with hashbrowns and your choice of toast with butter and jelly. I asked for homefries and wheat toast and the better half asked for a half order (2 slices) of the French toast. No problem at all! Within 15 minutes, we were digging in. Huge omelettes filled with gooey cheese, homefries that were cooked just right (though they could have used a little more seasoning) and perfect French toast (hubby thought it needed cinnamon but I thought it was fine as it was!). Loved the vibe of the place, kinda like Mel's diner minus Mel. Everyone chatting, catching up on the neighborhood gossip, you can tell this is the gathering spot. Delicious! Stopped by on the way from Crown Point to Bloomington. Followed the Yelp reviews and glad we did. Parking lot was almost full on Father's Day Sunday around 11am. Breakfast ALL day, which always makes me happy. Sign said "seat yourself" and so we found a nice corner booth. A lot of families of all ages. Waitress was quick with the coffee, water, iced tea and menus. We ordered eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuit and short stack of pancakes. Eggs were perfectly cooked, over easy. Tasted fresh. Hash browns could have been more crisp but they were okay. Bacon was disappointing, limp even though I asked for crisp. (why can't short order cooks get this right?) Bacon was also very thin cut, which would have been okay if it wasn't so limp. Biscuit and pancakes were the star of the show. Biscuit was very good. Not too big and tasted like homemade. The pancakes (and I only had one bite since my partner is the one who ordered them) were some of the best I have ever had. Not stupid huge plate sized pancakes, these were like you would make at home. Fluffy without being overly cake-like. I would order them next time. Coffee was way better than I expected for an Indiana diner. Not weak and good, fresh flavor. Will definitely make this a regular stop when traveling in this part of the state. read more

Not a fan...the mashed potato's taste like generic from a box, no seasoning on any food and under fried catfish. Great for the elderly crowd who can't handle salt or seasoning, or have no teeth. The service is great though!!!!! read more

With the high reviews, we thought this place would be a great diner....not so much. The staff was friendly enough, although she kept forgetting things and our order. The menu is a typical diner, with breakfast served all-day. We got breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, and hash brown) and fried cod with mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables (carrots and peas), and some other side. Everything was ok. We are traveling from Iowa and happened on this small town gem. We were looking for a little cafe and we won in spades. Friday nights they have specials of all you can eat Walleye and they have a surf and turf special also. We ordered both. They started by bringing us our sides of coleslaw which was more like 3 serving at any other restaurant. Then they brought our entrees. The steak was cooked to perfection and nearly melted in your mouth, it also ​came with a second side of potato choice and my wife chose baked potato, it also came with green beans cooked with onion and bacon, my other side was hash browns and was a huge serving, oh but the walleye was the best we have ever had. Was driving to Indianapolis, and got hungry, just as I breached the state line, between Illinois & Indiana. When I pulled into the parking lot, I figured someone was doing something right, because there wasn't one parking space, available. As I walked inside, I really didn't expect to get a table, right away, but to my surprise, there was one table, not being used. I still can't figure out, how they got all those people, in that small building. I was greeted immediately, and less than 30 seconds later, the waitress showed up and took my order. I knew what I wanted, and I was so hungry, my stomach thought my throat had been slit. I no sooner ordered, and my food was sitting, in front of me. I must've had an incredulous look, because the waitress smiled at me. Well, when I took that first bite, I was the one, smiling. Best ham & cheese omelet, I have ever eaten, PERIOD, bar none. The home fries, were equally good. I try not to eat at the corporate chains, for breakfast, and my loyalty to the mom & pop smorgasbord, paid off, again. So glad we stopped here on a long cross-country drive. We like to stop at local diners along the way and this was one of the best. So clean and excellent service. Lots of elderly folks, which makes sense (they know good value!). We tried the special: beef tips on noodles with lots of gravy. Totally hit the spot. Our children enjoyed the hotdogs with fries and our lovely server even refilled their milks. We don't do a lot of Yelp reviews, but Benjamin's stood out for us and we wanted to be sure others knew this place is worth the stop. We were trying to meet my in laws at the Beef House but they were closed. A quick search on Yelp led us to Benjamins. We were pleasantly surprised with the food. 3 of the 4 of us had the tenderloin sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. Nicely breaded, fried and not dry at all. Yum! I had the rib eye sandwich which I would definitely recommend. It was cooked to order (I had medium rare) and huge. All the portions were really big and the food was inexpensive. Like another reviewer, we stumbled on Benjamin's by mistake while antiquing in western Indiana. We knew it must be good based on the parking lot being full. It was fantastic! I had 3 big pieces of walleye, fries, corn, and a side salad. Friend had all you can eat fried chicken, corn, mashed potatoes and side salaed. Found Benjamin's by accident when traveling thru Indiana on the way back from a wedding. The outside of the building could use some work, as does the inside. Don't be scared off though as the food is good. We stopped on a Sunday where they advertise no smoking between 11 and 3 PM. Ordered steak & eggs, fried eggs, hash browns and pancakes. We stopped here after a long day of driving and were greeted by a very friendly staff!! Molly was amazing! We were offered and served our beverages immediately, our delicious salads came quickly as well. Two of us had never had catfish, and we found it delicious, as was the walleye.
