And just because it was huge, doesn't mean it was lacking anything else. It has great flavor and even after having to drive back to our trailer to eat, it held its crunch. (More about that later). The price also could not be beat. The only down side is that even though they have an outside patio, it is not accessible other than through the bar. The best pork tenderloin in Hoosier Indiana! This place has a lot of character. It has been here since 1899. There is a covered bridge down the street. This tavern is run down but it has character. The food they're known for are the pork tenderloin and the pretzel. The pork tenderloin is massive! Three of us shared one. It was cooked to perfection. The batter had a perfect crunch. The meat was moist. The pretzel was huge! It had plenty of salt ànd butter. It was so good. Ita huge too! They offer cheese and honey mustard dipping sauces for it. Definitely tasty. I highly recommend this place of you're looking for a pork tenderloin! Beer was good and fairly cheap. I definitely would return! Don't expect fast service. Wow! That's really all as I can say as I'm patting myself on the back for finding this gem for a new breaded pork tenderloin experience! Once we were assured by our server/cook Stephanie that one tenderloin sandwich was big enough to share we ordered it along with one extra bun. The tenderloin was so large. It was hanging over the plate and we cut it into fourths to each put one piece on our bun. To say that the tenderloin was thick and juicy is an understatement, and the meat to bread ratio was phenomenal. Shared one sandwich, one order of fried mushrooms and a Budweiser for a whopping total of $20. Not sure when we'll be back in the area, but I would certainly go there again. The only thing I didn't care for is they allow smoking in the restaurant. We were there about 3 PM so only two smokers up at the bar, but I would imagine on a Friday or Saturday night. TL;DR excellent, affordable, giant, breaded tenderloin. Smokey bar but has covered outdoor seating. Our drive here was 90 minutes and solely for the breaded tenderloin. It did not disappoint. It's thin, crispy and flaky, leaving crumbs all over the table. It could feed three. My wife and I shared it and took enough for another sandwich home. We also got a side of onion rings. For $4, it was a large portion. The bartender waited on us and was attentive. They serve Pepsi so it was a great excuse to get beer which were $3. No taps though. Only cans and bottles. Misspellings on the menu added to the charm and appeal of this place. Pro Tip: smoking is allowed in the bar which fills the small room. On the bar side of the wall is a door leading to outside to a covered area. Had we known, it would have made for a much more pleasant visit. read more

Lunch today at Mecca Tavern did not disappoint. The BPT was big enough to serve 3-4 people and was delicious! The only downside for me is that the tavern is still a smoking establishment, so you have to be able to tolerate that. Friendly staff. They have outside tables that we probably should have sat at, but once we were there a while it became a little less of an assault on the nose. Definitely would recommend if you are able to get to their neck of the woods to try them out! I'd say their BPT is in my top 5. Established in 1899!! This place looks like it's about to fall down, talk about a hole in the wall. We got a tenderloin to split it was HUGE!! We cut it into 4 pieces and only ate half. We also got the fried cauliflower, mushrooms and jalapeño cheese curds. All delicious!! $25 for all of that and 2 beers. The service was great and we didn't wait long. Wanted to take my fiance someplace different for Father's Day and based on reviews and our neighbor's recommendation, I chose Mecca Tavern. BIG MISTAKE!! Yes, the breaded tenderloin will make 3 meals (6 if you're a regular/local as the gentleman sitting next to me who was with the band got two tenderloins). But don't go if you're hungry. It took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our food and they weren't that busy. We only got our food because we threatened to leave. Then we were charged for a beer we never received. Four jalapeno poppers were $5!! Obviously, we will never go back. Maybe if we were locals/regulars we would have received better service...that seemed to be the case with those seated around us who came in after us and got their food before us. read more
