Such a great bakery with tantalizing choices. We came in the late morning and were craving savoury, so we got a Jalapeno Smoked Cheddar Twist and a focaccia sandwich. Both were delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. There are some tables within the bakery, a few benches out front and then tables all around the building, supporting the different food vendors in this complex. We also came back a few days later for a Japanese pop up out of Francis Bakery. So cool to offer up this space for different purposes. read more

We tried a few delicious treats- our fan fave was the Ham & Gruyère croissant. Noteworthy was the pistachio croissant and almond croissant. The location has lovely decor and is incredibly classy and tasteful. We were tempted to relive our Paris travel adventure and order the baguette sandwich with corniche pickles, but... maybe next time. I am, however, not a fan of the lay out. The counter is poorly situated and customers are forced to line up outside and cannot see the offerings until they are up to order and get no time to peruse because of the pressure to order quickly. The push to hurry up and impatience from the staff and customers behind us meant we left with fewer items. read more

So glad we were able to check out this gem while on Salt Spring! It's in a small shopping strip along with some other specialty stores. The space is modern and airy with a couple of tables for customers. There was a line when we stopped by after 11am and a couple of things seemed to have sold out already. We ordered a bunch of pastries to go. They were all delicious - flaky, buttery, and not too sweet. I particularly liked the kouign-amann, morning bun, and cookies. You can tell that they use high quality ingredients. I'd definitely recommend paying them a visit! read more

My patient dropped by and gave each of the staff the loveliest salted caramel brownies for each of us. We all had amazing things to say about it and not only that, but it left us wanting more of that creamy chocolate goodness!! What a snack to have and a sweet surprise of caramel too! It was not only flakey, chewy and soft, but was perfect even 2 days after it was given to me. (Sigh) If only you guys were not a boat ride away, I would be there every single day! Sometimes if both Frances and Barb's are open, it's a tough decision because of the amazingly long lines at Francis. But there's no disputing that Francis makes absolutely the best woodfired sourdough bread on the island and potentially on the planet. This is also an excellent place to pick up pizza dough if you do your own pizza baking And it is also sourdough. If the sourdough miche that is 25% rye happens to be the bread of the day, you should get a quarter of a loaf and try. If our family is any indication, you definitely won't be disappointed. read more

Wow--what a gem! You need to go to Francis bread. My boyfriend and I had their sandwiches (one with ham and one veggie) and I think it might have been my top highlight of our trip to salt spring island. The bread was so soft and everything was so fresh--you can tell they use top quality ingredients. I really enjoyed the pesto or sauce that was on the veggie sandwich. 10/10 Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. We wanted ice coffee but they were sold out; not a problem though, the staff had some left over brew that they had put in the fridge and gave that to us along with a cup of ice. I think they were saving this for themselves for later but gave it to us instead. Would give them 6 stars if I could. read more
