Excellent bar. Dark.... divey... bluesy... rocky... not really sure. But I really like it. The decor is a mish mash of traditional Irish pub stuff (sign posts and car reg plates) to Rock Bar (Thin Lizzy posters) to Dive Bar (darkly lit with fairy lights). They had a mixed selection of mainstream and micro brewery beer. No craft cider though. But they have toasties! The look and smell delicious. Full after an earlier meal, we didn't order any in this occasion. But next time... Staff were great, served with a welcoming smile. There was plenty of banter between one batman and the regulars. I'll definitely be back, if only for the funny graffiti in the ladies. read more

Situated opposite the ultra-hip Dice Bar, Frank Ryan's is an antidote to the more "look-at-me" excesses of its neighbour. As if to bear this out, it is very popular with local residents, with one of the key attractions being the pool table at the rear. From the outside, I really wasn't expecting much from this place. However, I was pleasantly suppressed when I got inside. It feels like a real locals bar and prices were reasonable (from what I can remember, I'd had a fair few before coming here). Nice little spot hidden away opposite two larger pubs. Atmosphere is welcoming even if it seems a bit dark at first. Drinks are slightly more expensive than surrounding pubs, but not enough to put you off. An eclectic mix on offer too! If you're hungry they'll throw you on a toastie and cover it with a bag of crisps. Anyone who hasn't tried this, needs to asap. Michelin stars all round! Went here again the other day. I dunno, the atmosphere is a bit off when it's not packed. Like a bit too quiet and cold. The toasties are still delish and the pints are grand, but yeah, it just had that smell of stale alcohol / cleaning stuff when a pub / bar is empty, and it was just a bit.. cold. It was only open about an hour though so maybe it needs a while to 'warm up' so to speak...! read more

This place looked really appealing from outside and inside it smelled of incense, had good music in the background and a handsome dog doing laps of the floor. In all, a promising start. But the guy working the bar was one of the rudest men I've ever had the bad fortune of meeting. He was openly disdainful when my friend asked him for recommendations on the beers they serve and he actually turned around to his friend to taunt her "indecision." He was also absolutely awful to me and just seemed to be pissed off that we were interrupting his chat with his buddy by ordering a beer. My friend and I kind of pride ourselves on being friendly and having the banter so we were really shocked at this level of aggression. I'll never darken the door of this spot again. read more

Another little gem in the midst of hipsterville Stoneybatter/Smithfield. I used to drink here when I was a kid. Like my Dad was drinking Guinness and I was drinking red lemonade. So this place brings back a lot of memories. It is not the old man pub it used to be but it's old man interior is still in tact. The vibe is just totally different. It's bright pink on the outside. You cannot miss this place. A few oulwans asked me if it was a gay bar last week when I was on a crawl of the local pubs. It's not. But I see where they're coming from. The music is hipstery-ish I guess. It varies. Was a little bit of a hip hop the last time. Staff appear indifferent. Not overly friendly nor rude. That suits me grand once I get served beer. They have a pool table and a tiny little area for smoking out the back. They have the usual drinkies on offer with some crafty numbers thrown in for good measure. Tayto crisps, bacon fries and all night toasties for soakage. There is a dog running around anytime I am in here. I presume it's the owners. Or maybe it's a ghost dog. I have happily gotten pissed in here on a number of occasions and will be looking forward to getting pissed again in the near future. read more

Noel is the guv'nor as testified by the cast of superstars who won't tour unless he is behind the kit. Has to be my favorite bar in Dublin, bar staff are friendly and professional. Usually extremely dark inside so difficult to always see Magoo, the owners dog, who regularly pads around accepting pats and scratches from customers. There's a pool table in the back and a small smoking area. Have never taken anyone who didn't fall in love with this cool, friendly Dublin pub. read more

This is my favourite pub in Dublin's fair City. Here are a few reasons. It is off the beaten track, but once you've been you will find your way back as Ryan's always has a mix of clientèle, Any night of the week could find anyone in here due to the atmosphere and beer. Great pints but flawless Guinness served by Pros. The décor is wonderful, Neon signs for beer that isn't sold there, Posters and Magazine covers of bands and gigs of yesteryear. Christmas lights all year round. Pool Table and eclectic music without the current hit intrusions. At the bar there is a mugshot of Frank Sinatra when he was arrested for seduction. Quite pissed off at what transpired last night. Brought my boyfriend to what I'd consider one of my favourite bars. Got two drinks and a toastie and sat down nothing wrong. Then suddenly the bar men (owner wasn't there) decided to turn the music up to ear bleeding level. I am not old and I like music but it actually gave me a headache and neither of us could hear anything else. It was like some sort of a joke. I've never experienced anything like it. We thought they were having a laugh then it continued. My boyfriend went up and asked politely would they mind turning it down but was met with absolute rudeness. We end up leaving our full pints and toasties. Nice way to treat your customers. You have just ruined a great pub. Well done. read more

One of the best pub in Dublin City Center that I have entered. This pub has it all, great atmosphere, funky interior, great music (personally I enjoyed the jazz & blues), friendly staff & locals. In the back you will find a great pool table and a decent smoking area for smokers is provided. Overall, Frank Ryan's is a lovely spot in Smithfield Area for having your pints! Drinks are cheaper than surrounding pubs, (between 1.50 euro / 2.50 euro per pint cheaper) and if you're getting hungry they will prepare a tasty toasty for you. read more

Had a couple of pints of Five Lamps and a pizza in here the day before the Covid19 lockdown (*sign of the cross*). It has a nice atmosphere, the pizza is excellent, I had the spicy pepperoni or salami one, it qualifies as spicy, maybe a bit too much but I can be a bit of a lightweight. It is somewhere between hipster and old school Irish pub, I guess. A dive bar kind of thing but maybe with a bit much of an affectation. I recommend it to out of towners for something beyond plastic shamrocks and tin signs pointing to Tipperary (although there are some of those but that aspect is not laid on too thick). read more

Not the best Guinness I've had so far but passable,Had a laugh with a couple of locals who have never been in any of the local attractions.

A great spot for Thursday night pints. Always a full house when the band plays. Good pints also.

First tip. Dont get the Guinness. It's terrible here. Everything else is good. Such a lovely atmosphere. The jazz sessions here are incredible. They do wicked cheap toasties all through the night. Good pool table and nice smoking nook out the back. Definitely worth a visit read more

Along with Grogan's this is one of the best pubs in Dublin. A gem in an area that has its fair share of great pubs (Dice bar and the Cobblestone being the best examples), this place has it all, good pints, toasties, a pool table and the best live blues in Dublin on a Thursday night. A decent smoking area out the back, this is a good alternative for all those Sin É refugees. read more
