It is believed that 'Temple Bar' street's name originated from 'Sir William Temple' from the 'Temple family (you can see the same on the outer wall of the pub) The most iconic pub in Dublin, the Temple Bar Pub, sits proudly on the corner of Temple Bar and Temple Lane South. With live music from 10:30 am every day, this is a pub with a party atmosphere all day long. I was amused at how many people popped in, snapped off a quick photo or a 30-second video, and then left without stopping for a drink. Then again, at €8 a pint, and it's one of the more expensive drinks in an already expensive city ( and I did the same in 2-3 pubs), and that's fine. Doesn't matter whether you wanna have food or drink here or not, but I would definitely recommend (in capital letters), have one drink here. Yes, it's expensive (just 3-4 euros more, come on), but the vibe, that's totally worth it. I truly believe, though, that if you're going to experience Dublin, then you can't leave without experiencing Temple Bar. I had like 4-5 drinks at different pubs, and though it's touristy and "trap"- I would come here again and again. No other place has a "temple bar pub ' vibe. Is Temple Bar an overpriced tourist trap in a saturated area of Dublin? Yes. However, with that said, I feel it's a must-see for first time visitors. I went during my first trip to Dublin and not again until my boyfriend and I went to Dublin together. As it was his first visit, we had to go. The bar is always packed unless you arrive as soon as they open. It's not longer after opening time that it becomes a mad house well into the night. We didn't find seating but found a place to stand in one of the many nooks of the building. It wasn't comfortable, but it was a fun experience that embodied Irish culture. Plus there is to go store a block down. This place alway packed and most of time, there is a line to get in for the restaurant side. Packed, busy, fun bar. If you're here, you're in the middle of the action! The place is huge with multiple rooms and multiple seating areas. We were in a small room just to the right of one of the bars. There was live music in a different area. A tv screen and the speakers streamed it to us. The main issue: it is vastly overpriced, (27 euros for two drinks) even for a tourist-heavy spot. You expect a bit of a premium in this area, but the prices here felt far beyond reasonable. Service was another disappointment. Our server was unattentive from the start--so much so that we eventually had to stand up and walk to the bar ourselves just to get drinks, because the waiter never made it to our table. For a place that is always busy, you'd hope the staff would be more organized and aware. The music, which is usually a highlight in Irish pubs, was only average that night. Not terrible, but not memorable either, and certainly not enough to make up for the other shortcomings. Overall, Temple Bar Pub is iconic, but the experience felt like paying premium prices for below-average service. THE ORIGINAL TEMPLE BAR. WORTH A VISIT AND A PINT. Before coming to Ireland I didn't know that Temple Bar was an area. I might be going in the off season (November 2025), but the entire street besides one or two bars is sparsely populated (the other being The Auld Dubliner). Temple Bar is popping nonstop and there is always people there. Drinks are always flowing and the live music (when you are drink) all sounds good. Yes, it's touristy. Yes, the locals say that there are MANY better places. But I STILL come here upon every visit to Dublin, as I love the VIBE here. It's packed, loud and raucous, but it's quintessentially Dublin! We visited in the afternoon and ran into a couple of pals from our tour which was a nice surprise. I had a Guinness and my friend had an Angry Orchard. Spectacularly fun with great entertainment. Based on other reviews and discussions about it being a tourist trap, I expected to hate it, but I didn't. In fact, we ended up going 3 times during our 8-day stay in Dublin. Yeah, it's a little more expensive than other pubs, but they have a system of service that is a well-oiled machine and entertainment at all hours. It was a great experience and since I'm an EarthCam app fan, I was able to talk with my daughters and they were able to see us enjoying ourselves for a few minutes. That was fun!
