It is believed that 'Temple Bar' street's name originated from 'Sir William Temple' from the 'Temple family (you can see the same on the outer wall of the pub) The most iconic pub in Dublin, the Temple Bar Pub, sits proudly on the corner of Temple Bar and Temple Lane South. With live music from 10:30 am every day, this is a pub with a party atmosphere all day long. I was amused at how many people popped in, snapped off a quick photo or a 30-second video, and then left without stopping for a drink. Then again, at €8 a pint, and it's one of the more expensive drinks in an already expensive city ( and I did the same in 2-3 pubs), and that's fine. Doesn't matter whether you wanna have food or drink here or not, but I would definitely recommend (in capital letters), have one drink here. Yes, it's expensive (just 3-4 euros more, come on), but the vibe, that's totally worth it. I truly believe, though, that if you're going to experience Dublin, then you can't leave without experiencing Temple Bar. I had like 4-5 drinks at different pubs, and though it's touristy and "trap"- I would come here again and again. No other place has a "temple bar pub ' vibe. Is Temple Bar an overpriced tourist trap in a saturated area of Dublin? Yes. However, with that said, I feel it's a must-see for first time visitors. I went during my first trip to Dublin and not again until my boyfriend and I went to Dublin together. As it was his first visit, we had to go. Great entertainment bar with live music and fantastic decorations year around from the outside to the inside. This place is a well known and the landmark of Dublin for sure. If you ask which bar to go for fun, this would be on the top 3 in the city. The bar is huge comparing to other bars in the area. They have their own restaurant within and a souvenir store next to it. Plus there is to go store a block down. This place alway packed and most of time, there is a line to get in for the restaurant side. But the decor inside and outside (especially at night) when all the lights are lite up, it just magical and fantastic to look at or to be inside and be a part of it. We were in a small room just to the right of one of the bars. There was live music in a different area. A tv screen and the speakers streamed it to us. I was only able to buy whisky in the little extension next door to the Temple Bar. I just wanted to mention the gift size whisky, like the sample size Telling and The Temple Bar one that comes in a nice tin box is at cheaper at the airport duty free (no tax) so save your money if you plan to get the small ones go to the airport instead. I was charged at least 10 euro more for the Telling whiskey. read more

We had to stop in for a least one drink while in Dublin. The place is so pretty decorated for Christmas and the live music is amazing. BUT it was so packed we couldn't even move. Tourists Trap Alert Temple Bar is undeniably one of Dublin's most famous pubs, but unfortunately the experience didn't live up to the reputation. The main issue: it is vastly overpriced, (27 euros for two drinks) even for a tourist-heavy spot. You expect a bit of a premium in this area, but the prices here felt far beyond reasonable. Service was another disappointment. Our server was unattentive from the start--so much so that we eventually had to stand up and walk to the bar ourselves just to get drinks, because the waiter never made it to our table. For a place that is always busy, you'd hope the staff would be more organized and aware. The music, which is usually a highlight in Irish pubs, was only average that night. Not terrible, but not memorable either, and certainly not enough to make up for the other shortcomings. Overall, Temple Bar Pub is iconic, but the experience felt like paying premium prices for below-average service. THE ORIGINAL TEMPLE BAR. WORTH A VISIT AND A PINT. Before coming to Ireland I didn't know that Temple Bar was an area. I might be going in the off season (November 2025), but the entire street besides one or two bars is sparsely populated (the other being The Auld Dubliner). Temple Bar is popping nonstop and there is always people there. Drinks are always flowing and the live music (when you are drink) all sounds good. Lots of hobos around too and I got super accosted by one on a side street who then shoved me around and wouldn't let me go. Wouldn't recommend walking down D'Olier Street at night. read more

Check the price before you order and make sure you double check the receipt. We got double charged by the bartender. After we found out and tried to claim money back, the staffs were not cooperative. We had to wait for the exact bartender to come back to the bar to discuss this issue. After talking to him, he insist we got the wrong receipt, which is not true. We were told to show the credit card charge record as proof. We did and finally got the money back. No apologies were given. The manager who issued the refund did not even look at us. So cold. Yes, it's touristy. Yes, the locals say that there are MANY better places. But I STILL come here upon every visit to Dublin, as I love the VIBE here. It's packed, loud and raucous, but it's quintessentially Dublin! Last time I was in Dublin, I was here for a few days, and I made an effort to try a pint of Guinness in different pubs, and to be quite honest- the best pints I had were here! Not to mention, the oysters are always fresh and tasty, and go so well with a pint of Guinness. If you stay long enough, the band will eventually play "Sweet Caroline," and the entire bar will be singing- it is quite impressive! I love to come here with friends as it is so much fun, but if you come alone, it's great to walk around all the different areas and rooms of this place and stand in awe of the history here! The beer selection and spirits were numerous. It was a very fun place although we didn't eat. The food looked delicious. This pub lives up to its reputation! Don't get tricked into thinking you've arrived when seeing a neighboring pub, keep walking toward the Golden Arches! We were excited to see The Temple Bar decorated for the holidays and of course were sure to see ourselves on Earth Cam. There is live feed outside of the bar as well as inside the pub near the stage. We visited in the afternoon and ran into a couple of pals from our tour which was a nice surprise. I had a Guinness and my friend had an Angry Orchard. You'll discover from reading any of my Ireland reviews, these were our drinks of choice. ;) The bar was packed and a band was setting up to perform. This was the last spot to visit on my Ireland bucket list and it didn't disappoint. Spectacularly fun with great entertainment. Based on other reviews and discussions about it being a tourist trap, I expected to hate it, but I didn't. In fact, we ended up going 3 times during our 8-day stay in Dublin. Yeah, it's a little more expensive than other pubs, but they have a system of service that is a well-oiled machine and entertainment at all hours. It was a great experience and since I'm an EarthCam app fan, I was able to talk with my daughters and they were able to see us enjoying ourselves for a few minutes. That was fun! As we hopped to other bars around Dublin, we became well aware that the Temple Bar was a tourist trap with their alcohol being nearly double the cost of local pubs. It had one big room for the live music, but smaller rooms branched from it. What's cool was that there was a small outdoor patio inside of the establishment itself. Because of the many rooms, there was no shortage of bars at The Temple Bar. I felt like whenever I turned a corner, there was a bar within reach. The Temple Bar was crowded on the nights we were there. I could understand Sunday being a vibe, but I was surprised by how lively the place was the following night on Monday.
