When looking for a photographer for our wedding, my criteria were that the photographer takes…read morebeautiful shots and that they are reliable. After looking through Brian's impressive portfolio and sitting down with him to talk, we decided to hire him for our wedding and engagement shoot. Brian completely exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Brian is not only very reliable, but he is also extremely dedicated to his work. Brian drove over 90 miles to get to our engagement photo shoot and on the way he stopped at a gas station on the south side of Chicago where he stepped on two nails, which punctured his foot. Although we insisted that we reschedule so he could take care of himself, he still arrived (early, as his style) ready to shoot our session. He carried his equipment on his back on his injured foot for miles around Chicago, and took some of the most breathtaking photos I have ever seen. Brian helped us to feel completely comfortable the entire time. I remember being impressed with how he can walk backwards, get to know us better by carrying on a conversation, assess the lighting of the area around him, all while shooting pictures that made our families cry and that we will treasure forever. We are happier than ever that we chose Brian and his assistant Greg to shoot our wedding on July 13, 2013. On the day of my wedding, I didn't have time to notice all of the details that I previously spent so much time planning. Brian perfectly captured all of these details in his photographs. There were many shots that I would have never thought to ask him to take, but because of his professionalism and experience he provided these pictures for us. Most importantly, Brian captured the moments that happen so quickly.. but that I will remember forever. Because of his talent, I have photos of my mom trying not to cry as I step into my dress, my grandmother giggling with the woman who was doing her make up, my groom's first teary look at me, and so much more. You are a lucky couple if you get to book Brian for your wedding!

We unfortunately have had such a terrible experience with Vanessa Yoss Photography. Starting with…read moreour engagement photos, she was very unresponsive and took forever to get our photos to us. She wouldn't answer emails back, then would make something up and say she would get them to us tomorrow, then the next day, the next day, the next week, and so on. We had to beg and feel like we had to start relaying our anger in our emails to her in order to get a response, which made me feel very anxious and added a lot of stress to an already rather stressful time in our lives. We also felt awkward in our photos, she is not a photographer that loosens you up or felt down to earth working with/ helped us feel natural in our poses or photos. There was a lack of creativity or effort to look around for good spots to pose us in, basically she will take a photo where you are standing and not do much else than that. We also were not a fan of her photo editing, feeling the lighting and filters she uses made us look extremely washed out and pale. However, we know that is just our taste and opinion and maybe other people might like that or disagree. Then for our wedding, we paid for 2 photographers and only had one show up. Nothing was said to us on our wedding day about it - (because she just wanted to focus on keeping things positive, which is understandable!) - but after that she still continued to never to bring it up or address it with us. Hm, seems fishy. Finally, THREE weeks after our wedding I sent her an email asking about it, and it wasn't until I brought it up then did she respond. I now wonder if I never asked would she have ever brought it up, or was she hoping we forgot and she could just overcharge us for her services. She said something popped up and the 2nd photographer cancelled. We said we understand emergencies happen, and kindly asked if we could just refund the cost of the 2nd photographer since we didn't receive that service, and we felt like there was a ton of shots missed from our wedding day after we got them. She replied back trying to instead offer another photoshoot or wall prints. We said we were not interested in those things and asked just to work out a refund. She then fell unresponsive again and wouldn't get back to us. After bothering her with a few more emails she responded saying "I don't think I have room to adjust the pricing", and again tried offering more prints. We again said we just fairness and want to work out a refund - finally she decided she will only refund us $200. At this time she had Silver, Gold, and Platinum packages. We paid $2800 for the gold package: Gold: 10 hours of coverage + 2 photographers = $2,800 Silver: 8 hours of coverage + 1 photographer= $1,900 $200 to refund 10 hours of coverage for the entire 2nd photographer, although the difference between these two packages is $900. We are so disappointed in Vanessa's practices and treatment to us, we wish we had any insight into her tactics before we booked her, and we feel so bummed and scammed by her. We see she has now removed reviews from her Facebook page, and altogether removed wedding services from her website, which leads me to believe this can't be the first negative situation she's created with her clients. What are you hiding or trying to avoid coming to light by hiding reviews? We are calm, realistic and understanding average people, we are not trying to be dramatic or exaggerate this story. We share this out of hope it can protect anyone else out there looking for a fair or positive experience in photographing a big or momentous occasion in their life.

I am a worrier and I worry about everything. As someone who watches the local news before bed, I've…read moreseen probably 500 different segments of "Problem Solvers" (or some variation) about a couple who paid a photographer thousands of dollars only to have them bail last minute, take crappy photos, or disappear forever after taking said photos. So naturally, since wedding photos were my #1 priority, I was basically a lunatic when it came to finding our photographer. A friend of ours is a former wedding planner and she recommend us to Christopher as someone who had helped her out in a pinch. We loved his website, but it all seemed to good to be true. It wasn't! After talking with him I couldn't have felt more at ease. I can't say we didn't put him through the ringer while "interviewing" with him, but I can say how absolutely THRILLED we are with our wedding photos. I jokingly tell everyone that I love my wedding photos more than I could ever love my husband (so far its not true, but only time will tell how that pans out..;) KIDDING). Christopher was awesome to work with. We are inherently awkward and unruly people, but Christoper did a great job of coaching us and capturing "real" photos. There isn't a photo in our collection that looks overly posed or unnatural (we worked out those kinks during our engagement shoot). In the end we received about 1400 edited, digital photos (I can't imagine how many he actually took!), and the count does not even include our engagement session. We had him all day from 9am to 10pm, and our package included a 2nd photographer. I also can't emphasis enough how easy it was to have Christopher around us all day, even in the limo as we cruised before the reception. Our friends were probably even too comfortable around him which explains some unusual groomsmen photos.. My best advice (obviously stolen from Christopher): 1. DO the engagement session. We wanted to bail on it, but I can't stress enough how much it helped to practice being in front of camera. I think it made our wedding photos a million times less awkward having been used to the camera being on us. 2. Hold your bouquet low as you walk down the aisle. I see so many photos (not done by Chris) where the bride is holding her bouquet by her chest and covering up that dress you just paid hundreds of dollars for. Also smile!! Maybe you are crying, or about to barf, but just smile.. that goofy look is what people call 'true love'. 3. Try to think about the photos that you actually WANT. I've been in so many weddings where I have to sit through 4 hours of photos while EVERYONE gets portraits done. Why do you want a picture of just you and your great aunt? Do you need a solo portrait of each bridesmaid? Who frames a solitary photo of themselves? Christopher was more than willing to take whatever photos we asked, but our family photos took 20 minutes tops. The group photos are the ones you are going to frame anyway. Cut the excess and get to your reception.. you should be partying right now! (Also make sure to sneak away for 15 minutes towards the end of your reception.. I mean have you SEEN his website? The man knows his way around a flash at night).
