It's a great place for a party (we recently held our engagement party there), and areas of the bar can be hired for this. Jo and her team will also provide a buffet at very reasonable cost. The cocktails are fantastic, ranging from the classics such as Cosmopolitans to more unusual apple martinis and the like. The food is very good for snacks, although for me it's a bit too lively for dinner. They also do an excellent salad bar lunch Monday to Saturday. The only slight quibble is the service which can sometimes be a little slow, but I know they're working on this at the moment. However, with great cocktails and food, a 2-for-1 cocktail slot, and such a great venue, it's still a brilliant start to a night out in Chi.

The Dolpin is belived to date from 1648, whilst the first date known for The Anchor is 1768. Quite bright inside and has the usual JD's menu which is served up by cheerful staff who know how to manage a 'Husband Creche'.! My compliments to JD Wetherspoon for the high standard of their toilets. Wherever I use this chain, the toilets have always been immaculate.

But it is clearly targeted at lads out for a good night out and, with its inocuous modern decor, it's never going to win any prizes for character. It does standard pub food during the day, though we didn't eat there. What put me off more than anything, though, was an astonishing notice on the wall, which read: 'We have a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs. The toilet surface has been treated with chemicals, so we accept no responsibility for nose-bleeds'.
