Back behind the little shops downtown, down 1 of 2 alleyways dotted with tiny shops, you will come upon Styles, like a mecca in the dessert. This is seriously the place to go during the week if you just want to get out of the house. They have 2 pound drink specials every day and more shooters than you can imagine. They also have a quiz night, an open mic night, karaoke night, and live music at least 2 out of the 7 days of the week. Just a note that most of this goes on upstairs. If you just want to come hang out in a great bar with great people and atmosphere or just grab a bite to eat of their awesome food, then the downstairs will be just perfect! I recommend going early on quiz night to get a seat for you and your group.

Really stylish decor and has a great atmosphere too. Drinks are reasonably priced and staff are very friendly. The also serve food but the kitchen was closed on the day of our visit so didn't get a chance to test the menu but it looked like there was a good choice and prices were reasonable. They have a heated smoking area to the front of the pub too.

In the daytime, it is your typical little café, offering cappuccinos, lattes, various panninis and the like. However, it is of an evening when Café D'Art comes alive, as Formby residents flock there long after the other local drinking establishments close (they have late opening hours, ideal for those poor souls craving a replacement for Shorrock's Hill, Europe's number 1 hotspot). The drinks there aren't very cheap but by the time you get there you're usually too pissed to care, plus the beer they have there is pretty good compared to your usual pub draughts. The only negative is its size, meaning it can be full without really being that busy, which usually results in the action spilling out onto the alley and round the corner into the village but if you don't mind the squeeze then I highly recommend Café D'Art as a place to drink through to the early hours.

Dessert-wise it's spongy cakes, teacakes and sticky tarts - great stuff. Of an evening the little place goes full-on wine bar and serves a selection of beers, wines and spirits in a brassiere style. Of a weekend there can be a real throng of locals in here dissecting the week's events over a vodka tonic or a petite glass of beer. The walls of the establishment are hung with local art, usually of a surprisingly high quality and in a variety of styles, all of which is available for purchase. The prices of this dark pub seem to be based on adding all holiday prices together and if the cost of your drink ends with 99p, you can expect the barmaid to just keep the penny without asking. Even though I'm off on holiday and have no need for one stirling penny, I still want the damn thing. It's the principle. I also don't like the idea of taking my belt off and shoving my belongings through an x-ray machine just to drink. Yes, that's the exact reason they made me do that.

But they play some good music and there is always a good crowd in there. Just be warned, you have to go up and down stairs to get to it on the 2nd level. The pub itself is quite big, and has many rooms with plenty of seating. It kinda feels like your friend's grandparent's house with random chairs, and nook and crannies. The bathrooms are outside, and the sinks have freezing cold water. This probably isn't as much of a problem in the summer, but we were here in December, and it was absolutely freezing out and the thought of heading out to the loo was dreadful! Everyone was really friendly; it's a real locals only pub, but everyone was quite chatty and in good holiday spirits! It was a nice welcoming crowd. Best of all, there's a super friendly pub kitty!
