Was quite fortunate to happen upon this establishment. I was just being a hungry tourist looking for a decent meal. The wind kicked up, and suddenly a brief snow flurry forced me to seek shelter. I opened the door to What's cooking and rode out the storm. Beer was refreshing, and the Cheeseburger was splendid. (Me trying to sound British) Atmosphere within is invigorating. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Cheers!

On what was an otherwise fantastic day trip to Liverpool, lunch ended up being pretty disappointing unfortunately. This bar and grill on Albert Dock was convenient for us to head to before we caught the ferry from Pier Head over to Spaceport, so we ventured over in search of a quick bite to eat. With two children in tow, I was hoping there'd be a decent children's menu, but they were both underwhelmed by the limited choice, eventually opting for the fish fingers and the hot dog. What was served looked like run-of-the-mill convenience food that had been reheated. The fish fingers straight out of a freezer compartment and grilled. Usually avid eaters (like their uncle), both meals were left unfinished. My cheese burger, on the other hand, was good, as were the fries. Service was warm and the interior is clean and comfortable, but I probably wouldn't recommend them to other visitors to the waterfront. Tip: they have a Yelp offer of 20% off your food when you check in.

Famous for burgers, steaks and ribs! Yum yum. But if you don't like any of these, there are lots of other dishes to choose from. The menus change pretty regularly which I actually quite like. The idea behind the restaurant is that if you want a dish they will cater for your needs. Maybe call in a tell them what you want, just to make sure you get what you want. There is an 80's night on Monday's, not been but looks good. They also cater for birthdays, weddings, corporate events, whatever you want.

If you are a meat lover then there is one place in Liverpool which I guarantee will set your taste buds alight and that place is What's Cooking! It is situated alongside some of the finest eateries in Liverpool in the Albert Dock area and believe me it more than holds its own. This place doesn't seem to full on and formal yet still manages to deliver the best quality of food you could imagine more than competing with its illustrious competitors. The staples of the menu here are ribs, steaks and burgers and believe me you could try any of them within their various dishes and not be let down by a single one. The staff are also great here and what's more the place is family friendly so there is something here for everyone. This place is great as part of a family day out at the docks and will provide fun and good food for all.

This place was the perfect lunch spot! Something for him and something for her! The ambiance was great. Relaxed and rustic. I had a leek and potato soup starter and it was very yummy! the croutons were a bit gross but I didn't have to eat them all. Then I had a grilled chicken wrap with chips. YUM! This was so tasty and perfectly warm & Crunchy. My fiance had a bowl of chili and was loving it followed by a cured meat pizza. I highly recommend this for a lunch spot. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful!

There simply is no way to…read moregracefully eat their burgers or wings without slathering face, fingers and possibly eyebrows in the vast amounts of sauce dripping from everything they make. It's probably why you're given a roll of kitchen of roll instead of napkins when you sit down. When we first arrived it was queued out the door, ok it's a small entrance way but that still meant there was at least a dozen people ahead of us. Thankfully we were quickly ushered inside and while we still had a 15 minute wait for a table for 4, and we could spend that time at the bar. The bar has a decent selection of the usual favourites. It's a bit short on good beer/ale but does have Brooklyn larger on draught. They also have their very own larger, which to be honest was unimpressive. It tasted very weak with no strong flavours and a distinct lack of hops. I would describe it like sex in a canoe, f**king close to water. If you're a Bud or Coors lite drinker you'll likely enjoy it. But you don't come here for the booze. The burger menu was impressive, the smallest they do is a double and every burger comes with a long list of toppings. Some crowd pleasures feature, candied bacon, pepper jack cheese, BBQ onions, but there are also some weird and wonderful additions such as crunchy pretzels, frazzles (yes the crisps!) and even beerios, which are some sort of beer infused cheerios, they only appear on their breakfast burger. I had the river phoenix, a double cheese burger with bacon, BBQ onions, chipotle sauce, baconaise and the aforementioned frazzles. The burger was delicious, the meat was good quality and well cooked, although it did get lost under the vast amount of different toppings. As sides we had their chilli cheese fries and suicide wings. The fries were excellent, a mixture of regular and sweet potato fries. They were cut to just the right thickness and had a nice crunch while still being fluffy on the inside. There wasn't quite as much chilli as I'd have liked but other than that the fries were perfect. However I was disappointed in the suicide wings. I'm a big hot sauce fan and they were pretty mild. I would have liked for them to have been a lot hotter. I was expecting ghost pepper heat and only got Jalapeño. It's not full waiter service as you do have to order and pay at the bar. But the staff were pleasant and the queues were short so I didn't mind. Our four burgers (3 doubles and a triple), two portions of fries and a portion of wings came to a very reasonable £40.

No table service - this a DIY venue but worth the trip!

They served up a fantastic matcha latte, and Liz got a cappuccino. I thought this place was a fine place to eat breakfast, or if we wanted to get a coffee or tea to go. Liz and 'Em had pancakes... although it looked like smaller portions they were filled quickly. I had a morning brekkie with meat, which came with toast, bacon, a small tub of beans, roasted tomato and spinach, and toasted eggs. It was all pretty delicious. The server offered sauces (hot sauce or ketchup). I was pretty content with the food. All types of folks come in and all are treated the same. I'm not sure what I am expecting from a sports bar except a good selection of screens but maybe I yearn to find somewhere that lives up to the standards set by Cheers? At Cafe Sports, however, nobody will know your name. It's possible that Mr Carragher would think that a wet mid-week afternoon was not the best time for me to get a good flavour of the place but I have seen this place on a Saturday night and I'm not sure that's a side of the establishment that I want to reflect! It's just bland, Sky Sports News on every screen just strikes me as a bit desperate - we need sport, any sport, even hockey news! - To be fair to the place, it does what it says on the tin and I'm sure Cafe Sports will be a good venue for the World Cup but as somewhere I have visited outside of a notable sporting event it doesn't really have much else to offer.

However what's unusual about this place is that you can get proper traditional Brit main meals here. I should have noted the England in the title, huh. Guess it's less an American Sports Bar, more a pub spliced with one. Neat! The homemade scouse takes pride of place on the menu but you can also find fish and chips, bangers and mash, cottage pie, even a chip butty or a gargantuan Yorkshire pud filled with roast beef and spuds, gravy and veg. Believe me, come here when you're ravenous because otherwise you'll be so packed full you'll want to fall bobos. You can even get breakfast here if you pop in during the morning, and it's not all fried eggs and sausages and ketchup, there's fresh fruit salad and a super muesli packed with all sorts of goodies too, so even the health conscious can enjoy a bit of sporty action in the AM. Smoothies are available all day and are deliciously tangy and pulpy. Puddings are classics like fudge cake, carrot cake, banana split and sticky toffee pudding and come highly recommended along with their sorbets and yoghurts. The place is packed full of lots of tasteful sports memorabilia and there's a plethora of TV screens so no one misses out on the nice sporting view which is rather excellent. Seriously, if you need a treat I'd say it's one of the best places to watch a game and chow down on some stodge or get a smoothie and superfood fix. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'm not even that into sports.

Throughout the summer and during the world cup the atmosphere here has been very patriotic and quite frankly second to none which is saying something when you take into account the volume of the competition. As prices in the city centre go this bar is reasonable and the pints are of a good quality which is obviously of the utmost importance.
