My one star is for the otters living conditions! It's a tiny space with DISGUSTING puddles of crap and mud as their "fresh water" living. Why do otters need to be here anyway... especially if they're not being treated right? Do the right thing and take them to fresh water, a sanctuary...anywhere but there . The monkeys cages are sad too. read more

We drove a ways to get here because we had seen many other drive through safaris. We called to make sure they were open and they were. When we arrived the bathrooms were clean and then we were able to pay, get food for the animals and go through the drivethrough. The animals were very hungry so they were all flocking to the car. The drive is a decent drive and there are a good amount of animals to feed. There is also a spot to look at and feed giraffes and tortoises. There is a reptile house but we did not go inside. There is a good amount of parking available. That said there was a strong smell in both the bathroom and the gift shop. The giftshop was most likely the turtle tank that needed to be cleaned. We drove all the way from Austin to visit this safari. We called a week in advanced to ask if we needed to make reservations. They said no and that they're open 7 days a week, just come on by. The weather did get colder as the week progressed. However, no updates on their website or social media pages about being closed due to inclement weather. After driving 2 hours, with a toddler, we get there and the employee at the reception desk said it's too cold so the animals are in their enclosures. She said we wouldn't see anything if we paid for the excursion. This was quite the disappointment and indeed, we should've called the day of, but the way they made it seem was as if they're just always open. Clearly not. On the website, in my opinion, was vague - "we must close the park when dangerous storms and unsafe conditions arise. If a storm is in the forecast, please check our Facebook Page." There was no postage on their FB page; a storm was not coming so who are we to know. Now, you might say, who wants to be out in 30 degree weather. Well, visitors on a limited time frame with no control over the weather, clearly. Look, I understand that certain things cannot function under certain weather conditions. However, the website should be clear and whne we had called previously, certain things of the sort should be mentioned. Realistically, how many people within the town are visiting the safari? The majority of visitors will be driving some distance to see this attraction. So what a huge bummer there was no notification. Essentially, the customer service was horrible and the interaction with the employee at the desk. She said we can pay and go in but she wouldn't bet on seeing anything. No apologies for the inconvenience, no offer of a discount, nothing of the sort. *On the other hand, we tried to visit Aggieland Safari afterwards. We called and no one picked up; however, I left a voice message and also check their social media page. Well, look at here, they actually indicated on their social media pages (FB & Instagram) that they are closed due to inclement weather. 30 minutes later someone actually called me back and told me they were closed due to the current weather conditions. How nice it was to receive some sort of communication. This is a neat concept. I cannot deny people wanting to visit. So my advice is to call day the day before you go, just to confirm. And to this company, be better about updating your social media and have better customer service. read more

Was ok, we drove 2 hours to get here, and they did have a variety of animals. Loved the drive thru and the was it was setup. They told me this park is all family owned and operated. Bathrooms were clean ( huge) Because the inside of gift shop smelled of urine and I'm a farmer!! Around animals all the time. However, you didn't see a lot of poop, so that was a plus. We saw lots of animals, and it was in the heat of the Texas sun, around 3 pm and 102 degrees. it seemed as if they were in process of making so unique changes and would definitely be interested in going again. Because it was a drive through, some animals frankly you could see better from outside the park because some had been sectioned off. My favorites included the watusi cattle, highlands and giraffes. The tortoises were pretty amazing as well! Too many lamas and mini horses. While cute a few times there are too many sometimes to enjoy other things. If you have a choice, drive a truck, not a car, just makes the rough terrain easier to drive in it. read more

Found Franklin Drive Thru Safari via an Instagram blogger and decided to take my toddler to it one weekend. It's a little over 2 hours from Houston so definitely make a day of it. The safari itself is pretty tiny.. you go in and make a little loop to see all the animals, but the animals are fully visible due to just the sheer size of the place. There's also a little area out back you can check out the giraffes, monkeys and tortoises. We had a great time here and we laughed so hard. The animals are a bit aggressive and will stick their heads into your car to get food. Some will slobber and some didn't smell that great.. I also had one jump on the side of my car so be aware that your doors could get scratched by their hooves. The alpacas were so funny.. one would not move from the front of your car until you rolled down your window - it would literally stare you down until you feed it or trick it from moving away. Most of the animals ate right out of your hand and it was so fun to feed them. My toddler was a bit scared but enjoyed looking at them. We had a great time and I definitely think it was worth the trip. You pay per vehicle and for extra feed if you want it. You may need a car wash after coming here though :) read more

I feel terrible that I didn't do better research about this place before coming here with my partner. The actual drive thru safari part started out well and the enclosure felt very well shaded with lots of water and plenty of room for the animals to roam however there are no longer the different types of species listed on the website. It was genuinely enjoyable until we walked into the reptile room and every single tank was filthy and all of the reptiles were either depressed or constantly searching for any part of the tank they could escape from because they weren't properly taken care of. My partner has kept a lizard in the past and it made him very sad to see the state that these animals were forced to endure. Then we saw how small the enclosures were for the monkeys and were just really unhappy with it. This led me to google this place better and found several instances of animal mistreatment which seemed to line up with what we saw. I almost paid for the interactive room but after seeing the condition of these animals I refused to give this place any more money than I already unfortunately did when I bought tickets. Please research before going to any place and don't make the mistake we did by giving a place like this money. read more

I have been obsessed with going to safaris since I moved to Texas. I just love seeing the animals, feeding them and petting them. I went to this Safari during the middle of the pandemic. Since everything with the pandemic was still fairly new they only allowed you to drive thru. I really enjoyed the animals. I can't remember what we paid but we got the feed and boy am I so glad we did. These animals were coming up to the car left and right and you better hope you have enough feed when they come. I ain't going to lie when that emu came up to the window I rolled up the window because I was scared. I was also a little worried when the animals with huge horns came up to my car. If you have not gone to a safari please do yourself a favor and go. Don't get a carwash until after because your car will need a wash after driving through the safari. read more

Really enjoyed his place! We came here on a whim on the way back home from Waco and it was an awesome experience. Pros- we got to see a variety of animals up close such as ostrich, longhorns, camels, goats, peacock, zebras, llamas (to name a few). The course is pretty long so you get to see a good amount of animals. They have restrooms and a parking place that has a gift shop and giraffe feeding schedule. Cons- be prepared time wise, it takes a good 1hr and half to get through if there are a number of cars. Sometimes we had to stop and wait for animals to get off the path because they were eating what was thrown on the floor. Feeding is not included in price and costs extra. The animals will dirty up the side of your car and windows with their drool (haha). read more

Oh my....love this place! I have been twice in the past year. Drive up. Pay and pay for an extra bucket of food. Trust me. Your admission comes with one bucket. Goto the gift shop....and get some food for the giraffes! I always go to the giraffes first! They are next to the gift shop. It sets the mood...the excitement....the love for such beautiful creatures! Then into the car...and start a slooowwwww drive.....there are a couple dif paths...i say take them all...see all the animals. There was a strong chemical odor in the gift shop. This was not a bleach or a cleaning solution odor. I asked the lady behind the counter, she stated she thought it was the sour flavored candy. This was NOT a candy odor. We were to stay the night in one of the cabins. After seeing the care of the animals in the gift shop, the chemical smell, and the people just sitting around outside, we did not feel safe to stay or visit the drive through. We had visited this place some 7 years ago, and again in October of 2020. It is a very exciting experience for both kids and adults. The animals come to the car and sometimes it could be a bit hard to move forward, but it is lits of fun. The reason for the reduced mark is that the guy at the entrance did not wear the mask, even though they have a sign next to him that the masks are mandatory. When asked why he was not wearing one, he mumbled that he was more than 6ft away, which is a nonsense, as he came close to the car, and extended his hands directly to the car, to get the credit card, to give the bucket with food, etc. read more

This place was awesome! We went on a Friday because it gets super busy on the weekends. There was hardly any cars and we could have driven through ourselves but chose to do a private tour (extra $60 flat for our group of 3) the private tour was worth every penny! We got to go off the normal path and our guide knew all the animals so we got to see and learn a lot more than we would on our own. Highly recommend!! Please note feeding these animals is messy. We fed them out of our hands and they have spit like any animal would, but the experience was worth it. If you go on a weekend you'll be waiting for a long time, weekdays recommended. read more

The animals were great, the trails are entertaining and the animals looked healthy. The employees were kind and welcoming. But, the Kangaroo pen looked a bit overcrowded. The otter water was disgusting and I hope it gets an actual filtration system. The aviary was closed unfortunately which was one of the things I was most excited about, but hey, I GOT TO PET A BABY CAMEL. You get to see a lot of endangered species that makes it worth it. I didn't go into the baby room since all I saw were monkeys and lemurs. It's $35 to see the baby otter and as much as I wanted to see and interact I can't afford to splurge $105 for otter time with family. Nonetheless $60(including feed) for 3 people for that experience was a great deal. Feeding the giraffes is a must, magical. Also, bring an ice chest with your own drinks. Currently sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for 2 hours INSIDE the safari. While a good idea, they need a new system or control. I actually took a nap for a half hour while we waited INSIDE seeing no animals. I paid $50 and driving three hours round trip coming from Austin. I suggest limiting people inside the park per hour or offer online tickets with reservations or preferred times. I've been to other safaris in California and other places that had a better experience. I understand we're in a pandemic but limiting cars would make it more enjoyable. I also am concerned about safety as people are out of their cars, cars with open hatches while moving and kids sitting on top of cars on the sunroof INSIDE the park. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

While visiting from New York, me and my boyfriend found this place through google maps. Such an amazing experience. The animals were SO friendly, and very gentile. They come right up to your car and if you have the windows open they stick their heads in the windows and look around. We would have about 15 deer surrounding the car, zebras, cows, emus all surrounding the car. Drive slowly & mindful , the smaller animals sometimes run in front of the cars and you can't see them. Very disappointed a lot of these animals where lame. I'm in the vet field and I could clearly tell that one of the goats has a neurological issue. Multiple animals ( donkeys, horses) have not had their hooves trimmed ever in their lives. I am not sure why this place has such high reviews compared to others in the Texas Area. We decided to try this location bc it was close by compared to others but not at all impressed. The animals did come up the car but like I saw in another review the animals did not seem well taken care of. With the money this place brings in they should be able to take good care of them! The bird cage had lots of birds and one of them was dead, the water looked like it hadn't been cleaned or changed in months!
