Dont go there. I've been going to this store since 1990. Admittedly, I haven't been in this store since 2010 but I went into the store 2 weeks ago when driving to S.C. There is now less inventory and there is no longer a wall of used guns I can inspect. I've spent thousands of dollars there over the years, especially on the tax sales day after Christmas. They will not last much longer, unfortunately. They have way too many employees hanging out and acting like "experts", plus I was ignored by the "knowledgeable" kids working the pistol counter. Which I found out was a blessing because the prices were well over 25% markup over acceptable consumer prices and I couldn't negotiate. Which was never the case in the past. I've given them one strategy to improve their business, but that wont save them. read more

I've been to Franklin gun shop a few times since I moved to Athens and have never been disappointed. I just want to give a thank you to Matt, who assisted me with fixing an issue that I had with adding some parts to my gun. I have yet to see a gun store with a great star rating. Maybe it's just impossible to avoid a sense of our awful social divide when there and folks rate based on that? I just rolled the dice and went. Also, I don't need warm and fuzzy customer service. I just want competence. I found these folks to be helpful, professional and knowledgeable. The person that helped me was thorough and considerate. I got tips on how to proceed that where great. It HAD to be obvious I'm not especially a gun person. read more

We took my husband's bow in for a service. There are a great many details to this that would take far too long to discuss here. The short of it is , the youth they had working in the bow shop destroyed the cam (he was supposed to be working on the strings). After three months of calling back and forth trying to get them to remedy their mistake, they refused to do so, had thrown away my husband's bow strings , and proceeded to slander us on social media like a pissed off 16 year old. Rather than owing up to their mistake, they behaved like a child. We are following up with a complaint to the BBB and will never use this business again. Since Mr Franklin passed away, his business that we are sure he worked hard to build is being trashed by incompetent children. read more

A good gun store that is local. Generally have most modern firearms anyone can want. Lots of hunting firearms. Half the store is dedicated to fishing, and can fit most needs besides deep sea fishing. The store has a small archery section, which has grown in popularity in Athens. The firearms tend to be more expensive than most places. read more

Franklins is one of the few old fashioned sporting goods stores still around. They've been doing business in Athens since the 1960's and have a better selection and much larger inventory than any other gun store I've ever been to. They buy a lot of used guns and definitely have more used guns than anyone around here. I have no clue how many guns I've bought here but it's more than a few. Their sticker prices on guns are normally the same as other stores but if you ask, they'll usually give you a meaningful discount. read more

Don't know why I continue to try and do business with these a$$ h0les!! I reckon cause I keep believing they'll change. Prices are on the high side but service and sells staff are rude, short and don't wanna help in any way but take your money at the check out stand. How are they still in business!? Great archery staff. I was having problems sighting in my bow and they gladly took me to the back archery range and helped me free of charge. Their staff is knowledgable and friendly. Their prices are also very competitive. I will definitely be bringing them my business from now on. read more

It is nice to have outdoor stores in Athens, but there are far better ones than this one. One complaint is no archery equipment. Man what decade are they in. They prices are high.... not Saterfields high... but still overpriced. They have their cost day sales which are decent. It is nice to have them next to the firing range. The staff is fairly rude and not that competent. GA outdoor sports is way better. read more

This gun shop is as good as it gets! I got my first BB gun there 38 years ago!!! You will not deal with a better shop of better and knowledgeable people in the gun industry! Take some time and go visit them, you will NOT be disappointed, I promise you! They have an awesome selection of guns, knives, fishing equipment, archery, etc... The staff has always been helpful and nice while there prices are not that bad , would rather spend a little extra than give my money to a big box store. They offer a good variety of things from hunting to fishing oh and there is a upstairs as well if you didn't know that. read more

There are very few times when I'll complain about a gun shop as I'm obsessed with firearms, but here goes. If you sell firearms, it's probably not a good idea to deny your patrons to lawfully carry firearms in your store. In addition to that I've rarely had a positive experience there. Most recently I walked in and asked a person at the front for a mag coupler. The response was "we don't sell that kinda stuff, you should go down the street". Referring to Clyde's Armory. Well with that attitude I turned back around and did the one thing I never thought I would do, which was I went back to Clyde's. I swore never to go back there as they had a bad rep, and customer service wasn't great. I'm glad I did though because they changed the way they do business. I had no less than 4 people ask if I needed help and they answered every one of my questions. Sorry Franklins I spent $2,300 gladly at your direct competitor. read more

Horrible customer service! My husband and I went in to buy a handgun, and couldn't get anyone to wait on us. After being in the store 15 minutes no one in the store had even taken the time to speak to us. In fact a customer who had just walked in came and stood next to us, and the sales associate offered to help him like we were not even there! I won't go back, and suggest you do not waste your time or money there! read more

Came to this gun shop and bought a brand new Stoeger. Went a fired it. It broke the very first time. It was misfiring and after a second or two delay it would fire without pressing the trigger. Very dangerous! I sent it back to Banelli where they kept it and sent it back after about a month. He got really pissed that he had to eat the shipping charge. When i got it back it did the same thing. He shot it twice and basically said there was nothing he could do except keep sending it back and charging me the shipping cost each time. I even offer to get it refunded and buy a more expensive gun from him. Long story short he was an asshole. I am stuck with a dangerous piece of junk and after purchasing many firearms this is the last place I would ever buy a gun from again. My father also bought a gun from them which he had to replace 4 parts on. They sell junk and their service is shit and the smart move would be to go one block down to clydes gun shop. Never once had a problem there. Hope this review keeps anyone else from buying a piece of junk from them read more
