The Brown County Historical Society has a spacious building on the northeast side of Nashville with…read morea limited amount of parking out front. The two story facility has several wagons parked on the front landing and a large gathering room for activities in one section inside. As you enter the building, there is a gift shop behind the front desk and a Gnaw Bone Cabin exhibit on the right. Though the walls look like a cabin, the fact that there is a high ceiling and several displays inside the open space which is also quite large, makes you realize quickly that this exhibit shows items that may have been found in and around a cabin, but is not a realistic representation of a cabin. (For that, head over to the Pioneer Village a block to the south.) To the left of the entryway is a hallway with more exhibits. There are found items, photo displays of local groups, and assorted collections that display some of the history of the county. Although there is a second story, there were no signs indicating that there was anything for visitors to see there. My only complaint about the society's collection is that there is very little about the famous art colonies that had such an integral part in shaping modern Nashville. I know that a lot of the TC Steele items have been collected at the home site a few miles southwest of Nashville, but it would have been nice to see something about Steele and his associates represented. I was at stop 3 so I handed out salad, peppers, or brocolli along with a pack of Starry and a bag from Starbucks. I didnt give 5 stars because some of the bags had old dates. I asked what the dates meant and was told not to worry about it. Many of the families driving through were very grateful and thanked us while the others looked away or didnt say anything at all. I was really happy to serve the community and would enjoy going back.

Perry Senior Citizens Center offers free meals for the elderly in need, a space for them to enjoy each other's presence, a car ride to necessary medical appointments, and more. The space is working on adding a few fun features for their folks and can use any support and donations from the community. Cara, who runs it, is one of the coolest people I've met. The second you meet her, you'll be excited to help out her cause!

They are lacking on the maintenance…read moreside of the structures in regards to the roofing and the wood siding having some rot and in need of painting the fields are maintained to the best of their abilities but some good donors are needed to help bring this place back up where it used to be and to continue to let this be a place for kids to come and enjoy for years to come. I highly recommend if you live in this community to pitch in some elbow grease or some simple funds to cover things like chalk and paint as it will go a long way and they are working with everything they have. I only get to come by for a few games a year but I always make sure I assist with funds in the concession stands and I always help out with the fundraisers. It doesn't take much to get involved and help bring the ball parks around town back to life.
