Saw this place while walking and then yelped in. Didn't realize it was actually a chain. Overall good experience and good food, but nothing too special about it. Waitress was nice. But they tricked us when asking about water. And ended up getting bottled water instead of tap. So that cost extra. No biggie. Had a reservation so I recommend that. read more

One of the great things about Australia is the blend of so many different cultures. There's a restaurant for every country in the world located here in the city. I feel like having Italian I went to this restaurant because it had a lot of good recommendations online. I ordered the calamari freaky, which was lightly breaded and delicious with herbs mixed into the breading. I also ordered a spaghetti with prawns. They put breadcrumbs on top, which gave it a little bit of crunchiness, and it was a good addition. Its was delicious. Garlic and olive oil base. Well done!!I added a bit of more olive oil. Now it is perfect. The decor is clean and modern with an open kitchen concept. The plates have a small base so be careful to cut the prawns in the center of the plate. I usually don't order dessert but they offered a Chef special menu for lunch that included it. The tiramisu was one of the best. read more

My goodness I ordered a cocktail jumbo size and crab pasta. Thankfully I was able to finish eating lunch. The decor of the restaurant was impeccable. I mistakenly thought this place was related to fratelli paradiso. My foodie friend highly recommended fratelli paradiso. It was after i ate here and was very disappointed with the taste of the food did i learn from my friend the two restaurants are unrelated. The food here is very basic. The seafood scampi pasta had no flavors and tasted very bland. The seafood tasted like it was from a commercial frozen bag. The pizza was very average. The only thing i liked here was the ball of fresh burrata cheese on top of the pizza. The service here was also very bad and it was very hard to flag down waiters. The beers were pretty good though. I heard from my same foodie friend that this place used to be pretty good back in the days. But it got corporate, expanded, and then the food quality and control started going down. read more

To start we got the parma with rockmelon and boccocini $15 - Very night and light way to get the palate going. For mains i had the polenta with Gorgonzola - So creamy and the polenta nice and crispy on the outside. I also got to sample the pork belly - that was cooked quite well and had a nice crackling! Staff were a bit busy when we stopped by around 8.30pm on a friday night as we had to hail them down. For dessert we got to try the tarte banofee - nice flavour in the base and caramel sauce however the cream on top was a bit lacking. Overall, a great first time visit! read more

My coworker had been here and loved it so we all decided to go and have lunch. She told us we should go before they opened because it gets pretty packed. We got there at about 11:50 and there were already tons of people waiting. We were in line for maybe two minutes, then 10 more people arrived behind us. The doors opened promptly at 12PM and they started seating people. We sat and a waiter came by and asked if we wanted water. We got water and asked for bread. He brought the bread out and we thought he'd come back and give us plates and silverware, but he didn't. Our waiter came by and asked if we were ready. We said yes, but he disappeared and went to another table, which was a bit strange. There was a lot to choose from, and I was debating between the mushroom gnocchi and the ragu bolognese. So I asked the waiter which was better and he said it was completely different. I went with the ragu because I wanted a spaghetti/noodly dish, my coworkers got the spaghetti cabanara, the gnocchi and the polenta. The gnocchi and polenta came out first and they looked great. My plate came out but was the lamb ragu. I told the lady I ordered the bolognese and she said this was better, but she could bring me the bolognese if I wanted. I felt bad so I just agreed to eat the lamb but I instantly regretted it. The sauce was super rich and salty, but the lamb was very tender. I didn't really enjoy the meal and I thought the waiter was a bit ehh but I won't write it off. I would come back again and give it another shot. There's gotta be a reason why eople queue up before it even opens. read more

If you're looking for a nice, cozy and authentic Italian experience in the CBD, then this is definitely the place to go! My boss was nice enough to take us all here for lunch and we feasted on some really amazing meals with wine. Between us we had a pizza, pasta, chicken schnitzel, beef cheeks and crispy pork nicely paired with red wine, and everything was delicious. The place has a bit of an underground location, which gives it a nice and intimate atmosphere. I had the beef cheeks with polenta, pancetta and mushrooms and couldn't have been happier with my choice - it was the perfect lunch for a cold day and the beef was really tender. We shared benoffi pies for dessert which everybody raved about. I'm looking forward to coming back here for lunch again and trying some of their other dishes that also looked fantastic. read more

My dining guests enjoyed the food as did I. Food is good. Hands down. Except I do make a better banoffee pie. Except my standards are based more than food alone. Dare I say it? Yes!! The bathrooms were a total let down. Why? Bc you enter and see the basins and lovely orchids. Then to discover my chosen cubicle lock is broken therefore no lock. It was also a fail when I discovered no hook for handbag. The high tables are good in that there is room to stuff a handbag or a jacket. But truthfully, on the practical side, another fail. One cannot sit comfortably. But the idea of staying is not what they want I guess with this establishment jam packed all the time. Felt also that there may not be enough wait staff. Go for the food. A hidden gem, hearty, quality traditional Italian food. We walked in around 7pm on a Wednesday night, (no reservation) and only waited at the bar for about 15 minutes. The Negroni I ordered was delicious, and once seated we were pleased with the large selection on the menu, in addition to great specials, and a theatrical pizza bar. Relaxed and comfortable but buzzing atmosphere. The service was quick, and the food met expectations. The mushroom cannelloni was very good, but the tiramisu for dessert was definitely the highlight. read more

Friendly, elegant and cozy, warm atmosphere. We ended up here after the restaurant we had intended to find was closed and feel glad that we did! The wine, green salad with spectacular vinaigrette and my husband's meat pizza we all fantastic. My tagliatelle with meatballs was quite good - but the meatballs were too earthy for me and thus not my favorite (not sure I would order this again). We also had to hound them to get our water glasses refilled (though admittedly it WAS a very busy night). However, I still give this place 5 stars because of the overall class and welcoming feel if it, and the incredibly friendly staff. read more

Very disappointing experience. I decided to take advantage of the 'kids eat for free on Sundays at Entertainment Quarters Sydney. Four families with two kids each sat together for a meal. At the end of the night we were stung with a 10% surcharge for a 'large group' (fine) but then they billed us for some of the kids meals as 'each table can only have four kids meal as part of the offer'. We spent over $430 and they still couldn't take off all the kids meal. When I ask to speak to the manager, she wouldn't even come over to our table for a conversation but continue to communicate through wait staff. Very unprofessional and the four families will not be back to FF again. Be careful of their fine print!!! read more

We had a large work dinner tonight. While aspects of the food were good, the manager, "Bobby", was rude and lied. He did not want us to order from the bar even though we were doing individual drinks not to be added to the company's bill. He then claimed that the table was cut off due to RSA guidelines. When asked to produce a bill of the drinks, he was challenged to show how the table could have been a problem as the average drink per person was less than one by a wide margin. He then chose to lie and disparage one person saying that he did not cut off the table just the one person. He then told us that the restaurant was closing soon but would "allow" the table one more round (all this more than 30 minutes per to close). He only allowed half the table order to be taken and then lied again about what he had said before. One of the worst experiences ever in Sydney! Bobby should be fired! read more

This is a popular dinner spot in the cbd packed with city workers pretty much everyday of the week. Pricing is very reasonable and there is a great selection of wines on offer however the servings are not huge. You really can't go wrong with the pastas here and it's the perfect date spot. Bookings are recommended especially for groups. read more

As someone with Italian background I always look forward to trying out an established restaurant. Sadly I was very disappointed at the standard here. We were there early at 5pm and ordered the chilli prawn spaghetti and fusilli with bolognese ragu. There was all but a 5min wait before the dishes came out. The spaghetti was very dry, even crunchy, which to me suggested that it was not freshly cooked, possibly just reheated from the lunch leftovers. When we alerted staff to this they were very apologetic and set about getting another dish which they did, the second dish was much nicer and freshly cooked. the original fusilli and ragu was very nice but servings were not large by any means and I was still hungry afterwards. We also shared a tiramisu which was a beautifully prepared dessert, no issues here and the only reason I gave them an extra star. I question the fact that they would compromise someone's meal just because they were there early and couldn't be bothered cooking a fresh batch of spaghetti... this does not auger well for this restaurant and I would not go there again based on this premise. Murphy's law: you always discover the best food the day you leave an exotic locale and my trip to Sydney proved no different. My first time in Sydney was a disappointment in so many ways-- cold weather, poor accommodations (see my review of the Westin Sydney), dull city landscapes (malls, malls, malls!) and, baring the altogether too brief Mr. Wong, blah food. But this, my last day in Australia, the stars have finally aligned. I ventured out of my perfect hotel, in most beautiful part of the city, into the best weather of the year (naturally) to relieve this empty pit in my stomach before flying home. Prowling the streets in starvation I followed my nose and Nearly tumbled down the subterranean staircase leading into another Ripper-esquire historic building on Bridge Street. Beautiful architecture though could not distract from my real purpose-- food! Specializing in made fresh pasta and Neapolitan pizzas, Fratelli Fresh just ratchets up my dichotomous battle between longing for the comforts of home and staying for more (food)adventures. Even perusing the menu and deciding upon a selection proved too much for my Id-- and I went with pasta for lunch and pizza for later. read more

The food was decent, but the service was pretty terrible. I ordered the set menu, and chose the bruschetta and risotto. When I had finished the main course, the server took at least 10 minutes to take my dessert order (which was hazelnut gelato), and I asked for the check at the same time. I waited another 20 minutes before another server came to ask if I was waiting for something. I told him I'd been waiting on gelato for 20 minutes, and he apologized and ran off..before coming right back and asking what I had ordered. I told him not to worry about it and left. Caught up with another couple on Saturday night. First, our server admitted she knew nothing about wine when I asked about one in the menu. So, one should go get someone else who does know... Not just bring the bottle and ask if it's what I wanted. (Still shaking my head at this), Appetizers were out fast. I mean, almost fast enough to make you wonder if they were even cooked to order. But, they were delicious. Grilled prawns, stuffed zucchini flowers, and a fresh salad with their delicious mozzarella. Then, while taking a bite, I look up, to see two staff changing into their casual clothes. Apparently, their designated changing area is the area just outside a set of glass doors, in view of all the dinners. This wasn't isolated, as every time a server finished, they went and changed right there. So bizarre, and not really appetizing. Next were mains. They made up for the time, as these took forever. I had the ossobuco, only there was no buco, just a few pieces of meat in a bowl of spiral pasta. The meat was tender, but it was nothing like I expected. The mains were a bit of a let down. Dessert was nice. I had the cream de cafe with salted caramel, and shared with my partner. Espresso was beautiful, not burnt or bitter tasting like many restaurants that don't specialise in coffee. All in all, it was ok. I'd consider going back, but would rather try someplace else for Italian. read more

This review makes me so sad because this chain used to be a solid 4-5 stars. Ever since Urban Purveyor Group bought them out, they have continued to drop over and over again and now I wouldn't even recommend this place to a friend. We came on Friday and the service was fine. Same staff they used to have that give you the authentic Italian feel. The main disappointment was the food. We had two pizzas, the mushroom risotto and porcini ravioli, tomato and bufalo salad, arancini balls and olives. I don't think I would order any of those dishes ever again :( We didn't even get the banoffee pie because the quality had dropped so much. Ultimately my experience here was just below expectations. I've been told that this is one of the coolest Italian spots in Sydney, so I really did have high expectations. I think it would have been better on date night with just the two of us, or perhaps a weeknight catch up with a mate/colleague, but as a group of 8 on a Saturday night it was underwhelming. Firstly, it's cool how they have the option of sitting on the bar in front of the chefs and pizza guys - but we got put in a corner where all the echoing sound managed to reverberate in our direction - to the point where I couldn't hear the guy sitting in front of me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind some scenic 'ambiance', I love live music etc. but this was just unpleasant and ultimately exhausting having to yell-talk for no reason. The appetizers were excellent and came out quickly, very happy with that, however it took around 20 minutes to get the $75 bottle of wine we ordered, and most of us had finished out appetizers prior to the cork being pulled out. The mains were on the whole disappointing. Pasta was hit and miss, some of us enjoyed it, others really struggled to actually get through it - particularly the osso bucco pasta - risky dish that didn't pay off. The pork belly looked great, but the flavour just wasn't really there. We gave the $16 desserts a miss (since when did $16 become the norm for a slice of cake?) Underwhelmed is the only way to describe it. Not sure if it deserves the reputation it seems to have garnered. read more

Hi - the food and service was marginal. We waited awhile to get a table which was fine, the place was packed. The dishes were large portion and tasted the same, there was nothing special about the food. The pizza crust was thick. I'm reading other reviews and surprised that people would rate it higher and also discuss that the food and service was not great. At the end of the meal we tried to pay with our U.S. credit card and the staff couldn't figure it out or accept it. It was embarrassing as we were treating guests who ended up paying for dinner and we paid back. The staff didn't handle it well, they were not solution oriented or seemed to care. This was an extremely sad experience. Upscale fast food Italian food is not hard to make....or even tasty Italian fast food (my uncle's Italian and is the king of 15 minute fast Italian food). And trust me my standards for this place was never high considering how it markets itself...however, the saddening quality of its pasta and burrata was not excusable. I will add a picture to show how the gnocchi we ordered came in a pool of sauce (resembling more of a soup). Further, the seasoning of the burrata made it taste sour. I went there last night at 6pm with a friend. At that time nearly all tables were empty but we were appointed to sit at the open kitchen bar because all tables had been reserved which we thought is unlikely on a Tuesday night. However, within an half an hour or so the entire restaurant was fully packed with people lined up until the outside which speaks for the quality of the food. The restaurant offers a great atmosphere, great Italian style food, reasonable prices and good service. My only recommendation is to go there a bit earlier to avoid the crowds. read more

Fratelli Fresh really lives up to its name, with fresh ingredients and well balanced flavors - It does not overdo anything. The pasta was cooked perfectly, it was rich without being heavy. However, the dessert really stole my heart - The panacotta and Banoffee pie are really worth ordering, no matter how full you feel after a meal. read more

I have been trying to find the time to write a proper review worthy of my experience. I was brought here by friends in Sydney on a Friday and was told that we had to get there before 6 if we wanted to get a table. Sound advice! Great success because I was in for a treat of fresh Italian in a casual underground setting in the heart of Sydney's CBD. We started with delicate lightly fried zucchini blossoms which were fantastic. I followed this up with a hearty penne bolognese which was ALL meat , not watered down or the least bit sweet. Accompanied with a light aromatic pinot noir, this is Italian that I LONG for in the U.S. but never seem to get (I live on the West Coast so I'm taking this as yet another opportunity to bitch for umpteenth about the lack of good Italian food in the Western U.S with the exception of perhaps San Francisco!) In any case, the service was really good-natured and friendly (they import their servers from Italy....good sign!)-I would definitely be a regular if I lived here. The place was lively and packed so it was a good thing that we got there early. The prices are very reasonable as well for such a high-quality meal. Definitely worth a visit when in Central Sydney. read more

Hidden subterranean location that provides great ambience. Work week has heavy corporate clientele and books VERY quickly during lunchtime. I have been here 3 times but mostly due to convenience. it is a little over priced for average tasting Italian food. I was there by myself and ordered an appetizer (cured meats and smoked cheese) that was clearly meant for more than one person. The server (bartender) knew I wanted to have a pizza (having been referred there for one) yet made no effort to suggest I might prefer a different appetizer. His only offer was to see if I wanted bread for an extra charge (it is Sydney after all) . While the plate of cured meats was excellent, there eas WAY too much for one wanting to follow it up with a pizza. I ended up leaving having had only meat for dinner. Second issue: I was there during Happy Hour and made a specific point of ordering a second beer before its end yet was charged the regular price. Keep an eye out... And lastly. While this didn't affect me directly, it was pretty gross. During my Fratelli experience, I watched the bartender (same one serving me the meat extravaganza) make two shaken drinks. For both, he strained the ice from the drink using his finger. What an amateur, I was aghast. read more

We shared a cauliflower entrée which was okay, aranchini balls which was nice and a beetroot dish which both the vegan and vegetarian loved! I had a try of the gnocchi my vegetarian friend had and it was rich and tasty. She loved it! I had a pizza with mushroom, ham and cheese which was okay. Expected more. Service was good. So why 4 stars if the food wasn't overwhelmingly fantastic? Sometimes, it's more about the vibe of a place and the atmosphere and this restaurant had it! A cute little place that seems like its in a wine cellar - a little dungeon-esque. We came as tourists for lunch and service was speedy enough. My wife and I had the fired zucchini flower, gnocchi piemontese and prawn and garlic pizza. The waitress sold us on the zucchine flower and it was unique, but nothing to write home about. Superb quality Italian in the CBD. It can take awhile to get a table but tonight, we got one straight away luckily. The food here is always good and tonight was no exception - I had the lamb ragu on penne which was rich and delicious. The big surprise for me tonight was the skim flat white that I ordered at the end of the meal - I have come to expect average coffee at even great restaurants but this was possibly the best coffee I've had all week with the milk done just right. read more
