When you walk through the door here you're greeted by the soft scent of leather. Not overwhelming but comfortable, it is probably the most pleasant thing about the place. The walls and racks are hung with leather bags and jackets and belts and hats, and I was pleased to notice the biker jackets are the real deal, heavy leather and reinforced in the right spots for people who really ride, not some twit who wants to 'look cool' but wears something stupidly soft. There are knives in cabinets and walking sticks and the wares are all quite good. So why only 3 stars? Service. there is none. If I were rating this place solely on service, it would be a 2. The quality of the goods draws it up to a 'meh.' I was looking for a walking stick. I saw one I liked. and tried it out. The gentleman said they could cut it down if needed. I was thinking it was barley tall enough but I tried it and decided I could use it for support. I walked to the counter to buy it. The woman and the man who run the place were talking. I was standing right there holding out the stick I know they saw me trying. The didn't look at me or ask me to hold on or 'we'll be right with you. The woman was talking about someone who called about getting some shoes and was upset about not having the color she wanted. The man was correcting the woman's conversation about the wares they had-why I have no idea. but again, neither looked at me or said a word. When the woman declared "I am just too busy to do anything about this." I had to bite my lip from saying "Doing what?" because it wasn't helping customers. I decided if they didn't want my custom, they could keep their stick and I'd keep my money. I put the stick back in the rack and walked out and didn't hear a word from them. Looking at other reviews here it is clear this is not an isolated occurrence, and their service or lack thereof is the worst thing, almost the defining thing, about the store and has been for the last few years. They do have nice stuff and some people are very happy but for the service? it seems like a crap shoot and ask yourself, do you really want to risk it? read more

The prices of some of the knives are marked up much higher than the retail, do not recommend.

I've spent thousands at this shop and walked in prepared to spend another $2,700 on a knife. That didn't happen -- the heavy set dark haired woman at the counter made sure of that. She's not a salesperson, she's a cashier, and frankly, not a particularly good one. Her dismissive attitude and complete lack of professionalism made it clear she has no business representing a shop at this level. Even my mother, who rarely involves herself, had to step in and correct her behavior. I manage large sales operations -- I know what qualified staff look like. She wouldn't last an hour in any serious sales environment. It's unfortunate, because the product speaks for itself. The staff, unfortunately, does too. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. If you're a knife collector or just like to own nice cutlery, this place is heaven. Tons of inventory at competitive prices. Fred has a wonderful eye for the unique and exotic. There's also an eclectic collection of leather shoes, accessories and outerwear. I actually bought my favorite suede jacket there close to 15 years ago and still enjoy wearing it. This is a must stop if you're in the New Hope/Lambertville area. Great selection & great people. I was looking for a black leather vest here and was being helped by Rose. I found one that fit well and I liked but wasn't ready to buy it but didn't want to lose it, the only medium they had. I asked Rose what the return policy was and she replied that they only offer store credit. I told her that wouldn't work for me. So she offered to put it on lay away. I gave them a deposit to hold it for me. I assumed I would get my money back if I decided not to take it. I did find a similar vest, same brand for a lot less money at the Boot Barn. I bought it knowing it could be returned within 30 days for a full refund. I went back to Fred Eisen's store to try the vest on again. At that point I was told that I would not get a refund, only store credit. This was a big surprise to me as that is why I chose to do the lay away instead of an outright purchase. Rose never told me that I couldn't get a refund on the deposit even knowing that I didn't want store credit. Lea who was there when I came back, Rose was not, kept flashing the return policy in my face stating that it covered all transactions. She checked with the owner's wife to see if that could be changed and she said no. I put in a dispute with my bank over this only to find out that it was up to the vendor's discretion to approve a refund. I knew that was not going to happen. I considered the way this was handled very poor customer service and very poor communication. Obviously the customer does not get the benefit of the doubt here. I will not be returning to use my store credit. I don't want to go back and get something I don't need or want and probably have to pay extra for to use the entire credit. read more

I stopped in right before closing one evening as I was passing by with friends, when I was in New Hope. The first thing I noticed was the amazing smell of leather as I enter the shop. I was greeted by a friendly woman and the owner Fred. My friend was looking to buy a hat. He found a beautiful handmade Irish cap. He was going to purchase this exact brand of hat elsewhere for more money and was happy to purchase it for less.. The owner was very kind explaining and showing me around his store. Fred has an extensive knife collection, and his custom hats and jackets are amazing. Fred's wife makes beautiful one of a kind hand made jewelry. I even noticed he sells custom cowboy boots, wallets belts, and accessories. This is a small store, and quantity is limited, but if you want something custom or special then this is your place. Fred does some repairs right on the premises. Negative 5 rating!! Worst customer service ever!! Fred was extremely rude and arrogant. I have never been treated this poorly in my life. I went there to get my boot fixed and was told curtly that he couldn't fix it nor did he want to. I then asked if he would make me a bag and he said "no" and walked away from us to talk to another customer that had just walked into the store. Mind you he told me previously that he would make me the bag that's why we were there in the first place! Honestly my husband wanted to lay him out ....but instead we just walked out and took our business elsewhere. Rude and INCONSIDERATE is how I would rate this establishment. What a great place for quality leather products jackets, pants, vest, wallets, hats & unique items. Including a great selection of knives & even cowboy boots that are all affordable. Fred & his Staff could not be more accommodating & helpful. We highly recommend at least stopping in to see what they have you never know. We scored a beautiful pair of cowboy boots for my wife.. I wasn't that impressed with this store. Don't get me wrong it's cute and has some very nice knives. The leather selection however was lacking for a store with the word leather in it. The sales rep was also too aggressive for my liking. She was on top of us from the moment we entered the store. What I did like however was her honesty. Fred Eisen's has a really awesome selection of high quality, unique knives in every shape, size, and design imaginable. The owners are very skillful and committed to their craft. It's completely obvious that they love what they do, and that makes all of their work even better. My only complaint, however, is that I was treated briskly when I came in to purchase a knife. I wouldn't say I'm a knife connoisseur, but I do have a collection of a half dozen high quality knives and I specifically visited New Hope one day just to come here. But I guess because I'm a blonde 20something, the owner (or maybe it was just another male employee) didn't seem to take me very seriously. I had a general idea of what I wanted but when I asked for some assistance, I was treated dismissively. I did walk away with a beautiful knife and I would still return here because of the quality of their products. But hopefully next time, they won't judge a customer by their appearance. read more

Horrible experience, poor communication, lost items, item falling apart after 1hr use... avoid this shop. Full story below. Went in to have my sporran repaired 10/11/2020, had a great discussion with Fred about what I wanted to have done. He gave me an amount and was told it should be done in December. January came and I had heard nothing, sent emails and no reply, left phone messages with other staff and no return call. This continued through March. I finally talked to him at the end of March and was told it would be done by the end of the week and shipped back to me. When mid April came around and I had not received it, I stated the whole process of email and calls again. Wasn't until May 7th I finally talked to him and he admitted it was lost. I was devastated, he said he would make it right and would call me Tuesday with a resolution. He didn't call me he had another staff member call and said Fred would make a new one, I had to demand to talk to Fred to talk to him about the details, I needed certain details included. He called me later but refused to listen to the details I needed but said it would be done Thursday. I took Friday off from work to go see him, he called me on the way to say he found it and fit that morning. Ok great. Well I got there and it was a horrible repair, only half of what I asked for was done, the old work still under it and sticking out in places, the stitching stopped right where chain is. I expressed my concerns and was told it was fine. I wore it once for an hour and it is already falling apart, at the location I expressed concerns to him. He did refund my shipping cost but nothing else for all the trouble and misery he put me through. read more

These guys know their stuff without doubt. But they are very rude to kids, bordering on being racists. They seem to make up their mind whether you are going to buy anything as soon as you walk in and then treat you accordingly. I went in with my family, full of holiday spirit and came out with a completely spoiled morning. After buying 2 necklaces and a bracelet. The magnets in the necklaces fell out he took three days to repair. They fell out again. I finally super glued myself. The bracelet lasted about 12 days before the clasp separated from the bracelet. STAY AWAY read more

Fred has a shop and unbelievable eye for great knives. I just stopped in to see a couple knives. He was such an easy going nice guy no pressure to buy. Showed me some cool new knives he brought in. Told about who made them. Asked if I want to see some just let him know. Telling you if you like knives like I do you need to make a trip here. He also does great leather work. I'm just nuts about the knives he has. Great guy though really nice eye for knives. read more

Horrible service. Took forever to do a very small job. They constantly lied about when it would be done. I went there 3 times thinking it would be ready (because they said it was) and it wasn't. Also the craftsmanship is not worth what they charge. A high schooler taking a sewing class could do a better job. read more
