I inherited my parents' house which had an aging roof with shingles coming off during windstorms. It was clear previous contractors took advantage of my parents and put up starter shingles rather than full protective ones, or put up off color, nonmatching shingles during repairs. I was determined to find a professional who took pride in doing the work and who respected customers. I started out interviewing three big companies, all with supposedly high yelp ratings. But such ratings seemed to be off because they each sent high pressure salespersons who pushed for contracts with high upfront deposits with no set completion price. One salesmen took to quiz me on certain roofing terms, probably to see how much of a negotiating edge he had - such a turn off. I sensed that many of the big name firms have high operating costs and have to recoup them through aggressive sales tactics and probably rigged reviews. That insight led me to research companies off the beaten track with less urban-centric cost pressure and that led me to Frederick Roof Repair. I liked that it was a smaller, owner-operated outfit and whose website expressed values that are more congruent with mine. I sent in a query and was immediately contacted by Stefan who talked about his style of operating which is get the job done at a reasonable price, with no vague loose ends. He came over to meet me and I was impressed with his earnestness and non-pushiness. He used a tablet app loaded with satellite images of rooftops to work through an estimate, walking me through each key variable, suggesting options that were good for the homeowner, such as the grade of shingle. He answered all of my questions respectfully and substantively. His contract was straightforward, had a very reasonable price that was clear and upfront, with additional costs spelled out, such as replacement plywood. Given the winter, he worked with me to find a prospective time when the weather would be favorable for the roof to "take hold" and he promised that while we waited for spring he would do minor repairs should more shingles come off. Sure enough, I had shingles come off twice from wind gusts and both times I contacted Stefan and he promptly came over to make quick repairs, protecting the underlying layers. I was impressed with his responsiveness, communicativeness and focus on detail. We set a day to schedule the roof replacement, and sure enough Stefan followed through. He talked me through the process and told me how the replacement would take place, and how I might choose to go out while the roofers worked. The materials were loaded on the rooftop a Friday before, and I didn't even notice the sound of the cranes operating to place them on top. On the day of the replacement, I went away on business. Stefan's team worked two full days to complete the project, and afterwards, the roof looked good as new! All debris was removed and the surrounding yard was clear of stray materials. The final bill was right on the mark, adding in new plywood and with no other surprises. I'm delighted with the quality of the work, the professionalism of Stefan's interactions with me; at no time did I feel pressured, nor did I have any doubts about what was going to happen and when. I called Stefan several years ago when I had water dripping from the ceiling in my kitchen. I got his phone number from a neighbor, called him, and he immediately began diagnosing the issue over the phone. Once on site he confirmed his suspicion and fixed the problem the first time. So of course when I found a leak in my new home I knew who to call. Once again Stefan asked all the right questions to begin diagnosing the issue. Despite having a full schedule he made my appointment a priority as he could sense my concern about water dripping down the walls on both the 1st and 2nd floor of my home. Upon inspection Stefan identified the leak was the result of an ice dam on my roof. Cost to come out and identify the source of the leak= $0!!! He provided options to address the problem but also noted that in the absence of perfect (or in this case imperfect) conditions the problem may not come back. I first called Stefan of Frederick Roof Repair several years ago when I noticed a water stain on the ceiling of our bedroom. I suspected a roof leak. Stefan went up on the roof and immediately identified it as a dried out and cracked pipe collar. He replaced the collar for a very reasonable rate. We had him come out two more times to replace shingles that had blown off during high winds and also to seal gaps in window and garage flashing. His promptness and professional workmanship has made him our "go to" guy for everything roof-related. I referred Frederick Roof Repair to my parents when it was time for a new roof. Recent strong winds had damaged my ridge vent. I immediately called Frederick Roof Repair and Stefan(owner) picked up the phone right away. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I was quoted a very good price and even with the extremely cold weather and snowstorms the work was done quickly. I have owned my house for a little under two years and it turned out the previous owners had hired different roofers to reattach the ridge vent in the past. Unfortunately, the previous roofers did a complete botch job and incorrectly reattached the vent. Frederick Roof Repair did an excellent job of completely fixing the problem and replaced the vent and shingles. They also examined my roof and rebooted two pipe collars that were cracked. Called this morning at 0730 after the rainy week. Had a huge leak in on the upstairs bedroom. Stefan answered on the first ring! He asked very detailed questions to get an idea of the problem.
