Our family used another vet in town for over two decades, but they started to really decline. The vets wouldn't see patients anymore. Instead, unqualified "techs" pretending to be DVMs were doing all the exams, procedures, attempting to diagnose and treat "patients" - everything. We were paying for DVM care, but not getting it and our pets were painfully suffering the consequences. After many SERIOUS mistakes made by their "techs", that could have been disasterous-it became obvious that it was a matter of time before one of ours ended up seriously hurt, or WORSE. I was very worried about leaving that clinic after so many years of trusting them, but it was honestly the very BEST choice we could have made. Compassionate Care is absolutely awesome. They are responsive, attentive and the competency of the entire staff is clearly superior. One of our dogs had been suffering for years with ear infections and we had spent hundreds with the old vet clinic trying to get it cleared up - we were in every month with the same issue. Dr. K immediately identified the problem and for the first time in YEARS, that pooch is now happy, comfortable and has clean, HEALTHY ears - you can tell he has finally found relief. This year we learned they transitioned to Avenue which was fine (at least we thought). I called the emergency number and was called back by a vet in Charles City. She let me know that there was nothing they could do also informed me that they haven't seen my parents dog in three years so again they would do nothing. I upset, let her know that my two dogs would no longer be needing their care, and hung up the phone. I was sitting with my parents dog, calling vet after vet asking for help, when I received a call back from Avenue. The woman on the phone stated she was a manager and wanted to talk about my "negative experience". This was 20 minutes after the last woman told me they haven't seen the pupper in three years so basically tough luck. Mind you I am sitting with a dying dog, and the "manager" just wanted to go through their new policies. She didn't call to try to help us at all or show any empathy or a solution just wanted to CYA. If you are considering this vet or currently using this vet, I recommend you look elsewhere. We were able to find a vet to come out and help our boy over the rainbow bridge, but not with Avenue. Their attitude, lack of empathy, and unprofessionalism made this experience so terrible. Just know that if it is not office hours they do not care at all. I will never let my puppers set foot in this place again. It's corporate now, so they wanted to let me know that if I could let our pet suffer until Tuesday (it's Sunday as I write this) that maybe someone could help him. Why even be a vet if you don't care about animals and are fine with them suffering for days?
