We love Fred's! We come in every year from out of town and have to order pizza from Fred's at least once. My only complaint is that the crust takes up at least 25% of their medium pizza. The seasoning on the crust is delicious! But I would love it if it wasn't quite so large. Thin crust is the way to go! read more

We had a delicious lunch today at Fred's. We had fish tacos and onion rings. These are large tacos. I was only able to eat half of each (one grilled, one fried). Delicious . Also ordered Reuban sandwich with fries, it was very good and fries were okay. Their mushroom soup was very rich and delicious. read more

I've been coming here with my family for over 10 years and the service has gone down hill. Today we waited 40 minutes to simply get drinks (just pop), and then finally got our order taken 40 mins in and then had to wait another hour for our food. Our waitress barely checked on us, we couldn't even find her half the night, and she neglected to refill our drinks or communicate with us about our order. We ended up getting our food at 9:30 after being sat since 7:45, and the only time the waitress rushed to serve us was when she was cleaning up and wanted to go home, she suddenly picked up the pace. Horrible service, and such a sad occurrence for a place I've loved to go for years. read more

We have been coming to Fred's for a few years now for the fine food. Especially, the Hungarian mushroom soup. It used to be amazing, almost indescribable, and we have recommended Fred's to many of our friends in the past. However, It is just not anything to rave about anymore. The food is just average , and the Hungarian mushroom soup is abominable to say the least or less. They still charge the same prices for average food. Food that is comparable to food you might find at Denny's or Big Boy. Don't get me wrong I like Denny's and Big Boy. However, they are about half the price for the same fare. My question for the owners of Fred's is; What has changed? Do you still have the same kitchen staff? Did you guys change the recipes? Did you lose the recipes? I hope whatever the change is that you can change it back because Fred's used to be without exception, the finest food in the area, but now is just another bowling alley with food in my opinion. read more

Terrible service. We waited for about 45 minutes for food. With 3 young kids. The wait is understandable but would be nice if the server let us know it was going to be a while. My dad asked for a refill on tea after we finally got our food and the blonde haired server rolled her eyes and said uhhh ok. Like doing her job was annoying her. She could have been much friendlier and our experience would have been much better. I have worked in restaurants for 20 years. That is incredibly rude. The food was okay at best. Not for the prices. I'd skip it and support another local business with friendlier staff! read more

We just stopped in for a quick appetizer and a few beers, but certainly want to come back for dinner now. The staff was super fun & friendly, and the food quality excellent. We had dinner there last night for a family birthday. We did call ahead for party of 9. We were seated within 15-20 minutes. We waited at least an hour for our food. The portions were ridiculously small. First came rolls, less than half the size they used to be. My 2 piece baked cod dinner was 2 very small chunks about 1.5" by 2.5" & one small scoop of mashed potatoes. The serving size was like a child's meal. The waitresses explanation was that the fish shrinks when you bake it? We have frequented Fred's for special occasions for several years but will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

Ordered two Caesar Salads with Salmon for carryout. Paid $7.99 extra per salad for the fish. Order total was over $20/per salad totaling approx $43. The salmon packaged separately and was so small that I decided to weigh it and take a picture of it. It weighed 3 & 1/4 ounces. It took over an hour to get the carryout but was told 15-20 mins when the order was placed. Very disappointed and will go elsewhere in the future. read more

We have been to Fred's a few times in previous years but not in the past year. The server was great. But I don't remember his name. He did his best and you can't fault him for the quality of the food. We took our 6 & 9 year old Grandkids for a late lunch early dinner. I ordered the hot turkey open face sandwich which was promptly sent back. It was just a bunch of shredded dark meat. Never have I seen a hot turkey sandwich be so disgusting . My 6 year old got the cheese pizza. It looked like it had been reheated and there was not much in the way of any cheese. When a kid won't eat the pizza you know it's gross. I ordered the veggie appetizer instead of my meal because how do you mess up deep fried veggies. The mini tacos were so over cooked there was no filling left inside except some burnt on the top. The green beans were over cooked as well. The mushrooms and cauliflower was tasty though. The 2 decent things were the burger my hubby ordered and the spaghetti my 9 year old granddaughter ordered. The burger was good and the spaghetti was better than most but could have used a little more sauce. It mostly was like chunky tomato sauce on it. $50 for food that was mostly uneatable is very sad. We eat there once a week maybe twice a week the food is always good no matter what. It's consistent. That's what you want. Just look at McDonald's. New owner mostly the same food. Other than the addition of a couple fireplaces, the decor has not changed in 30 plus years. My wife and I had not dined here in a year or so, food was above average for the most part. We had the lobster artichoke dip for an appetizer which was very good. The waitress asked us if we wanted extra pieces of bread for the large amount of dip. We assumed the four pieces of bread were free, they charges $4 for 4 golf ball size pieces of bread. My wife had the shrimp garlic Alfredo. It was too much garlic. It didn't taste like Alfredo at all just like garlic. I got the Tower Burger. Which is basically a burger on a pretzel bun with caramelized onions deep fried pickles and candy jalapenos. The burger was good except I asked for medium rare it came very well done. The dining room was mostly empty except for four tables we waited over an hour for our food, so I didn't feel like sending it back. The wait staff was great, very nice very talkative. The new owner came over and introduced herself. She was very pleasant as well. Fred's used to have pretty decent pizza, we ordered a cheese pizza to take home for my son and I'm pretty sure it was frozen pizza. The crust was hideous, the sauce gross and the cheese was like cardboard. I definitely would not recommend the pizza. It was reminiscent of that square pizza they fed you in grade school. Ironically the menu says "award-winning pizza." I don't think we will return for another year or two. read more

Popped in hear while passing through town and was pleasantly surprised. Very cool vibe inside with a laid back atmosphere and bowling. But most surprising was the food, many great options and I ended up trying their steak and had some fish too that was on special. This place is good in the weirdest way possible. The fact that it's the town watering hole and a bowling alley you could expect things to be wild. But don't. It's the safest place on earth. The kitchen kicks a major flavor punch as does the bar. The $12 bloody mary is worth it, shrimp aside. The Fred's Tower burger is INSANELY good... in a way that words don't quite give it justice. It's a fork and knife number all the way and is spicy, cheesy, salty and sweet in the best way possible. So so so so good, and so so Michigan. Even the cherry butter that comes with the bread is uniquely Michigan. Long story short, give this place a chance. I love it. read more

Friendly service! I had an olive burger which I thought was pretty unusual. What this means was it was a hamburger with minced green olives in some sort of sauce on top of the burger. Since I like green olives I thought I'd give it a try. It was really good! I also upgraded to the onion rings to accompany the burger. The onion rings were average. read more

I've been going to Fred's for 50 years and it was always a pleasure to meet and eat there. Last night I was totally blown away by the horrible food I was served. It was definitely leftover and left out. It tasted awful. I couldn't eat it AND I have been suffering from a stomach ache all day. I understand there is a new owner but if they want to succeed they need to look at taking some restaurant management courses and cooking classes. This establishment has been spun since 1956 and it's clear to see why. The food was homemade and the menu had everything from comfort food, sandwiches, pasta, steaks and nachos. I had the Hungarian mushroom soup and steak filet stroganoff which were wonderful. My sister had their chili and cod dinner w/ baked potato, equally delicious. We love coleslaw and it was spot on as the 'dressing' clung to the cabbage and not runny. Fresh baked rolls with cherry butter twist. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming with fabulous carved wood artwork, using different types of wood for the color palette. Our server, Mylene, was a gem and took care of us like we were family! Wonderfully personable, professional and attentive. Located approximately 3 miles East of 75 so not far from your route but worth it. Great for families or groups. read more

Growing up I used to bowel specifically at this bowling alley every Friday or Saturday. They had such friendly staff, great food, and just all in out we had a great time every visit. Even growing up, and having kids I took them to Fred's because they had great pizza which we all love, the lights and kid friendly music. It was such a neat experience for the kids each time we went. HOWEVER, this last Saturday I had such a terrible experience. && with that being said I won't ever be returning unless I'm dining in for dinner. I took my children and their grandma bowling to have some fun, and spend time together as a family, and honestly I felt so uncomfortable there. The lady working was so rude, the people bowling on the one side of us were absolutely unpleasant. My kids were non stop getting scolded for literally being kids, and being excited. They couldn't choose their own ball, they were getting yelled at for not standing back while other lanes were bowling, they were getting yelled at for both of them being down there helping each other learn how to bowl. Also I asked if we could be moved to another lane that had no one near us that we would "bother, " and they made that a big deal as well. Non stop they were getting scolded by both the girl at the counter and the folks next to us. So needless to say I won't be returning. We actually stopped mid game and left. Good food though that's the only reason I have 2 stars. read more

Called to check for open bowling as soon as they opened and confirmed that they had lanes available. We jumped in the car and got there 20 minutes and saw several lanes available. We get in line to pay only to be told that it is a 2 hour wait because there is a party 10 people coming in. Where are they? We don't know. What time will they be there? Who knows. We just wanted 1 lane for 2 bowlers but obviously them making money off the 10 people whenever they decide to come in is more important. Thanks for the warning before we packed up and headed out that all lanes were immediately full and there was currently no open bowling for several hours. We could have adjusted our schedule accordingly. read more

Food was great think they forgot us as we waited over an hour for a table we were not the last people in line but the second to last to get a table. Another 45 minutes for food. We took our food home to eat after we watched the waitress use a dirty rag in a bucket of water to clean three tables and then wiped off top of salt and pepper shakers with the same nasty rag! Just wiped food on floor didn't clean chairs it was disgusting! You need a spray bottle not a bucket of dirty water! I got roast beef sandwich it was awesome. Fries were good. Hubby's cheeseburger was good but not well done like he ordered. A little pricey. read more
