That late-night call from the police that my child had been in an accident dimmed my enthusiasm for shelling out any more money for driving school. Behind the Wheel restored my faith. During the driving hours portion of the class, they picked my daughter up and dropped her off at home - sometimes at two different addresses - which was very single-parent friendly. The class also featured guest speakers: police, train conductors and truck drivers talked to the students about driving safety and told them cautionary tales of new drivers who'd taken stupid chances behind the wheel. When my daughter graduated from the class, she seemed to have a better grasp of road rules than her older sister. And knock on wood, she hasn't had an accident - much less totaled a car - since she got her license. When children start driving, it saves parents the constant hassle of dropping off carloads of kids. But it also ushers in anxious late nights of waiting up til the kids get home safe. Behind the Wheel renewed my confidence in my child's ability to go from point A to B and back again safe and sound, so their class fee was worth every penny.

I went when I was 17, which was 18 years ago, and they were the worst. They shouted at me every…read moreclass, they told my dad I would get in a car wreck within one week and didn't want to give me a license even though I passed every class, they told me I would have to get a drug test to get a license so I had to disclose any prescriptions I was taking to them to give to the state and it made renewing my license difficult for YEARS until I finally just stopped taking the medicine just so I could get my license easier(turns out I didn't even have to disclose my medicine nor do they do drug tests to get a license). I am here posting this at 35 with only 1 car wreck, caused by a snow plow backing up into me at a stop sign then driving off 3 months after getting my license, city was at fault naturally, so no parent ever has to waste their money on this travesty of a school nor any child has to go through the traumatizing experience their school was. Their 3 driving "lessons" are not why I only have one wreck on record, my dad taking me out driving for hours is why I only have one wreck on record. If there was a zero star option, I would give it. What a joke and what a gimmick.

I was told they had moved and someone would call me back in 30 minutes... I received a call several hours later Voicemail "Hi this is Beth from Total Driving Instruction, I heard you tried to come by our office, I can be reached at 816-398-0078" I called back and confirmed my Saturday appointment at 12:30. Fast forward to Saturday - No instructor - So we called and finally received a callback from the instructor. She said she thought we were scheduled for 2:30. I cancelled and refused an offer for a callback.

While I had high expectations and was excited about the opportunity to learn, I unfortunately encountered several challenges that negatively impacted my experience: Missed the education class. I asked to reschedule or to give credit back. The invoice had been PAID. They told me they would not credit or reschedule my class. NEVER AGAIN OR REFERR ABYONE TO SKILLPATH. Will report to my crop office to make sure they do not send any of our company employees to Skillpath.

I recall one class where they had me stay in a hotel under renovation on one side of town and another under renovation on the other side for the class sessions. That meant that I taught a lot of classes in very noisy and sometimes dirty environments. Air travel was the same. I kept wondering why my connections were so terrible. Then I found out that they simply chose the cheapest flights. I wondered why it so often occurred that I had to spend all day Sunday getting to a city not too far from Denver, my base. I asked the travel department if they had a cut-off for my time, like for example, not taking a $25 savings if it wasted 5 hours of my time. They would not comment. Once I needed to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. They said they would look into it. When I called back they said no-one was available. I knew another Senior Trainer of theirs who could do it. When I called him, he said they never contacted him. There were only three of us qualified to teach that class, so this would have taken them two phone calls max to arrange it. What rankles me the most is that these people are getting away with being a 501-c3 charity. I would like to know what the compensation is for each of the top officers. They had a "trainer manager" whose sole credential was a stint as an improv comic. The company decided to get into teaching budgets, and he created the training materials. He had never had a budgeting class, let alone taught one, and had never received training on creating materials. Those were some of the worst I ever trained from. Skillpath people had intense interest in seeing copies of my training materials I used in my own classes. More than once, they sent me copies of training materials that did not carry their logo, and asked me to edit them (for free) for them. I declined. Full disclosure: I am retired from the training field and own no stock and have no interest in any of their competitors. I checked in with them a few years ago, and found that if you factored in travel time, the rate they then paid was below minimum wage. If you do decide to take a Skillpath class, consider buying the trainer lunch. S/he could probably use it.
