During our time we watched all of our daughter's infant teachers leave, her two toddler teachers quit and multiple other teachers left as well. The new staff she has hired are constantly on their phones and are unfriendly to parents and the students. We witnessed a child left outside unattended and no report was ever filed as well as teachers yelling at older students. Our daughter and 2 other girls all started saying "hurt" and referencing their private parts. Do not under any circumstance send your child here if you care about their health and safety.

She said that she can't keep track of all 14 children in her room and it is not her fault that my 2 year old was hurt. The class sizes are much smaller than the public schools in the Kansas City metro, the teachers are very involved with the kids, and the principal is very hands-on with the school. And because of this, it is always at the top of elementary schools in the state of Kansas based on the KSDE report cards and test scores, which we confirmed. I highly recommend this school for an excellent start to a child's education.

There's also no real-time communication or app--just a paper report at pickup, which regularly stated she was grumpy. At home, she's incredibly calm (we call her "baby chill"), so we were surprised by the daily feedback. We even brought in a baby bjorn to help soothe her, but the promised A/C repairs never materialized. Sadly, we can't recommend this school based on our experience.

We had a rocky start with our oldest daughter as being born during covid made for a harder transition to daycare. That being said, Parkwood worked with her and by the time she was into their preschool program she was thriving and had a strong community of kids and teachers at her disposal. By the time she "graduated" from pre-k last year we had met most of the staff and were really thrilled with everything about our experience from the extremely low turnover of staff, to the approachability of the program director, to the dedication of the founder who is still very much involved. Our daughter left Parkwood being able to write her name, read a few words, and even knowing some spanish and yoga. Nowadays, our 14 month old goes here and at this point it very much feels like we are part of a bigger community as we know many of the other families that also send their kids here, and we know the staff really well. Parkwood is now located in Overland Park at Indian Heights United Methodist Church and while it's been a while waiting on the new addition - they are working on a standalone building that will serve as their primary care center here, which I think will be wonderful once it's completed. I won't sugarcoat the price as it isn't cheap to send kids here, but it isn't the MOST expensive in town either. I find that Parkwood Day School does a good job of keeping costs as low as they can while also maintaining a safe, clean, and educational environment for all the kids that attend. All this to say, I feel really lucky to have found this school and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good daycare/preschool to send their little ones to.

They support researched-based developmental learning for children 6 weeks to 6 years old and also have therapists (PT, OT, and speech) on site to conduct regular screenings to determine if your child needs additional developmental support/IEP. As a speech therapist myself, I was pleased to see therapy services are offered because they were not at several other places we toured. They just recently started using an app that logs your child's nap times, feeding times/amount, and potty. The thing my husband and I love is they upload pictures throughout the day and describe what activity your child is working on and what developmental skill it targets (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination, sitting core strength, language, etc). The staff is friendly, quick to respond, and our daughter is always happy upon drop-off and pick-up. Highly recommend Parkwood.

I was initially a bit nervous since Purple Dragon is more structured and has a lot of vegetables on the menu -- but honestly, we've had such a great experience. Clean school and cost friendly. We saved about a hundred per week going here. Makes a difference for our growing family! I can tell my daughter is well loved - she hasn't once mentioned her old school ha! Purple Dragon doesn't have an app, but I don't mind. Ms. Mila sent me pictures during Wednesday's first two weeks, which was really thoughtful. She also told me to check the papers in my daughter's backpack daily -- now it's become a fun little ritual we do together while dinner is in the oven. I can tell this week they're working on D, E & F vocabulary, farm animals, coloring, and colors. We're also practicing pulling pants up and down to get ready for potty training. Ms. Mila even sends home adorable magazine cutouts as "homework" to help with Wednesday's speech. It's small touches like that that make a big difference. A core memory for us: on her second day home from Purple Dragon, Wednesday was dancing and singing their school song all over the house. Chris and I looked at each other like, "Okay... she *loves* this place!" So far, so good! My daughter is happy, eats vegetables *by the bowl* (just wow!), and even though it's a bit out of the way for us, I truly can't imagine her going anywhere else.
