In those two weeks, my four year repeatedly told me her teachers were mean and she did not want to go to school. We had to drag her through the door crying. We witnessed other children also begging not to go into the classroom. The teachers did not greet us when we walked in at all, until I complained that no one was even saying hi to my child. They say they use conscious discipline but my child was put in timeout and threatened, and the director seemed clueless about the principles of Conscious discipline. When I picked my child up on April 2nd, she immediately told me that the part time teacher in the room had grabbed her "really hard and it really hurt". She put both hands on her hips when I asked her how she was grabbed. When I asked why, she self reported that she had gotten off her letter and was not listening and the teacher was upset. However, that night at bedtime I saw the bruises on both hips in the shape of fingers and thumbs. It took a few days for all the bruises to appear fully. I kept her home from school and demanded they check their cameras. They tried to say that they couldn't find any incidents. Eventually they were able to find the incident based on all the accurate details my 4 YEAR OLD was able to tell us. I watched it and it was concerning to say the least. The teacher chased after her, grabbed her on both hips and then held her under one arm squeezing her, brought her to the other side of the classroom and put her down in a chair and pointed in her face. You can tell how angry the teacher is on the video, you obviously cannot tell how hard she grabbed her. My child scratched her at this point trying to protect herself and was sent to the office. The school agreed that the teacher should not have picked her up like she did and she is "young and inexperienced". They had just hired her. But then instead of firing her they promoted her to full time teacher in that room. They kept insisting that the bruises did not come from the teacher and they think it's a coincidence. They sent me many screenshots of Google searches on how long it takes bruises to form. It had been 10 hours from the time she was assaulted to the time I noticed the bruises, plenty of time for a young fair skinned child to bruise. People can bruise immediately . They made several comments about how they don't think the bruises happened at their school and stories of other parents who had reported them and ENDED up losing their children. This felt like a threat, like they would do anything to protect themselves. Their decision to promote the teacher was very concerning and I ended up pulling her from their care. They also kept all of my money. I paid 1800$ on the first for the whole month and the two weeks prior and was told sorry you have to give a month's notice and was not refunded at all. My child is traumatized from this school and has ptsd symptoms. She can't even be in a daycare setting anymore because of this school, she just cries for her parents and feels unsafe. It is truly heartbreaking the damage these teachers caused. They should all be ashamed of themselves. I hope no other children here have had this happen but I would be shocked if it hasn't happened before or since. Don't take your children here.

Anna was the BEST teacher Qira has ever had and I'm so glad that she was our first experience entering a daycare and set the standard for how people who work at a daycare should be. If you aren't aware with how daycare works it goes by the age and once my daughter turned 2 1/2 she was moved to a different room as she should've. We were excited to see how much growth would happen since this room was for bigger kids and to our surprise the opposite happened. Little did we know that was only the beginning! A month or two later that teacher left due to being overworked and unable to enough days off since the center is low on staff. As an employee myself I understand things like this happen everywhere so we tried to be understanding as they looked for a replacement. This is where the nightmare began. For WEEKS my daughter did not receive a lunch or diaper change. The only reason I noticed is because when we arrived home she would run to the fridge crying for food and her pull up was so soiled it was disintegrating. I brought this issue to Tina - the director's attention on multiple occasions and each time I received a deep apology promising it would never happen again....it happened more times than we can count. Why were we paying $350 a week? Why were we sending a new pack of diapers with her every week? I am now completely confused as to why basic things a childcare provider should be doing are not being done; so I utilize the only feature that I can trust and the main reason we picked this location- the live cameras. There were soooo many things I saw that I don't have the space to write about unfortunately, but I am doing my due diligence to warn any parent who may be reading reviews on Yelp to help choose and those that actually care about your kids to please STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! I became the "most hated mom" at this place because I was constantly checking the app making sure my daughter was being taken care of and no matter who the teacher was they consistently showed me the basic needs we asked for were too much to ask for, literally! Anytime I talked to a teacher or the director it was always, "oh I'm so sorry that happened, I will make sure it doesn't happen again". They kept saying they would do better, but all their actions said the opposite. Here I am, as a working parent trying to make it work because in today's economy you need multiple streams of income to stay afloat. I trusted this daycare to take care of my daughter and instead her progress went backwards, she was always constipated and probably wondered everyday why we left her there for hours. As a parent that wants the best for my children, I feel like I failed her by not withdrawing her from this place earlier. Ever since she left she has almost mastered potty training, can spell her name and the tantrums are minimal. I truly believe this place was making her uncomfortable and she was not treated fairly. Which is very unfortunate because most of the caretakers were moms themselves! I want to note that Lamia was light in this dark place, she always greeted me warmly and was so nice to my daughter and we never worked directly with her. Delaney, you never addressed me as the mother of the child you were "taking care of" only wiped her nose when I asked you to and that was asking too much because bothered you to do it. You never changed her diaper and always acted like anytime I asked how her day was it was such a task to remember. Not sure why you're working with children if you don't plan to respect the parent enough to let them know when something bad happens to them instead of acting like it's not a big deal. Marqueana I am most disappointed in you. I came there everyday for a week straight on my lunch break to make sure my daughter at least got a lunch and no milk because she can't have dairy (everyone seemed to forget this everyday for MONTHS contributing to her constipation). You let me now you understood because your daughter has sickle cell and how important it is for certain guidelines to be followed and continued to throw my daughter's belonging on the ground upon arrival, not changing her diaper, not even making sure she has a blanket to sleep with...then had the nerve to act like I was bothering you when I asked for an update. I'm heartbroken writing this and have been for quite sometime. Please disregard all the fake 5 star reviews that were written 8/9 years ago, those profiles look like bots and should be taken down so the stars can reflect the true value of this place.

During our time we watched all of our daughter's infant teachers leave, her two toddler teachers quit and multiple other teachers left as well. We had a rocky start with our oldest daughter as being born during covid made for a harder transition to daycare. That being said, Parkwood worked with her and by the time she was into their preschool program she was thriving and had a strong community of kids and teachers at her disposal. By the time she "graduated" from pre-k last year we had met most of the staff and were really thrilled with everything about our experience from the extremely low turnover of staff, to the approachability of the program director, to the dedication of the founder who is still very much involved. Our daughter left Parkwood being able to write her name, read a few words, and even knowing some spanish and yoga. Nowadays, our 14 month old goes here and at this point it very much feels like we are part of a bigger community as we know many of the other families that also send their kids here, and we know the staff really well. Parkwood is now located in Overland Park at Indian Heights United Methodist Church and while it's been a while waiting on the new addition - they are working on a standalone building that will serve as their primary care center here, which I think will be wonderful once it's completed. I won't sugarcoat the price as it isn't cheap to send kids here, but it isn't the MOST expensive in town either. I find that Parkwood Day School does a good job of keeping costs as low as they can while also maintaining a safe, clean, and educational environment for all the kids that attend. All this to say, I feel really lucky to have found this school and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good daycare/preschool to send their little ones to.

They support researched-based developmental learning for children 6 weeks to 6 years old and also have therapists (PT, OT, and speech) on site to conduct regular screenings to determine if your child needs additional developmental support/IEP. As a speech therapist myself, I was pleased to see therapy services are offered because they were not at several other places we toured. They just recently started using an app that logs your child's nap times, feeding times/amount, and potty. The thing my husband and I love is they upload pictures throughout the day and describe what activity your child is working on and what developmental skill it targets (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination, sitting core strength, language, etc). The staff is friendly, quick to respond, and our daughter is always happy upon drop-off and pick-up. Highly recommend Parkwood.
