We began our time together with his evaluating my rifle which I had never fired. He recommended numerous improvements which made all the difference in the world during the actual training and shooting. He was excellent with spending the time to sight in the new red dot he recommended. I had purchased another rifle from a gun store that said the Bushnell scope would be "sighted in". Well, they must have hired a deer to do it. Wouldn't even hit the target. Chris made several necessary adjustments. That deer will not be happy. As a result of our time together, I am completely comfortable using the rifle we focused on. To keep some of the lesson top of mind, I did some filming. Chris is extremely patient and caring. No pressure and when I missed something we had previously worked on, he was great. With all of his years of experience in the military, SWAT teams, and police departments, serving and training, he definitely knows what he is doing. It is highly likely that other trainers could have huge egos, not Chris!!! Don't look any further for a trainer, if you are reading this, you found your guy. I will be back for my handgun refresher and some more rifle. The time we spent together was definitely not enough.

The range opportunities here are outstanding--airgun, 5-stand, skeet/trap, archery (including amazing wooded trails with 3D targets), multiple handgun distances, dedicated 50- and 100-yard rifle ranges, and a well-maintained indoor range where the club is currently experimenting with retractable target systems. SMGC has trained additional Range Safety Officers for the indoor range, allowing us to offer more non-event opportunities for members to use the indoor facilities--another example of how SMGC balances access with safety. The club has also expanded engaging shooting options in a thoughtful, safety-first way. Steel plates are now available on the 50- and 100-yard ranges, and reactive targets are available on the Goff pistol range when a Range Safety Officer is on duty, giving members more dynamic training and practice opportunities while maintaining proper supervision. Beyond the facilities, SMGC offers a variety of special interest groups that members can join, including pistol, Civilian Marksmanship, action shooting, run-and-gun, archery, indoor matches, 30/40 bore, and junior shotgun (skeet/trap). These groups create great opportunities for skill development, friendly competition, and community involvement. One thing I really appreciate is how the club continues to evolve responsibly. Our recently revised Self-Supervised Shooter (SSS) program allows members to demonstrate safe firearm handling in a structured, supportive way. New members can complete SSS right after orientation, giving them expanded access to the Goff pistol range and the 50- and 100-yard rifle ranges from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (or sunset, whichever comes first). The Board is safety-first focused and financially conscientious, with a clear emphasis on maintaining facilities while thoughtfully expanding opportunities for members. The club has also recently adopted a new membership software system, improving communication, streamlining access, and making it easier for members to stay informed and engaged. Because of that stewardship, SMGC is an excellent value at just $100 per year. Great facilities, strong leadership, and a welcoming community built around safety and respect--SMGC is a club I'm proud to be part of.

So much fun! It was the perfect amount of time and the courses were all different and very…read morechallenging (and really nicely done). We played on at least 5 different courses and we even got to play two games against the other (former army) group that was there. The castle was one of my favorite courses! This was also my first time paintballing so I don't have much to compare it to, but I thought it was amazing. The people working at Excalibur are nice, chill, and funny. They provide you with the gun, mask/goggles, and paintballs. You play within your group and can switch up the teams as you see fit. There's a referee for each game and they give you tips and encouragement. You mainly play death-match style, whichever team has the last man standing wins. Once you're shot (and the paint actually splatters and doesn't bounce off) you're out of the game and have to stand in the specified dead zone until it's over. After every 2-3 games you return to the basecamp to refill your gun with air/paintballs, get a drink of water, and catch your breath. Maybe they could add some FAQs on their website for suggestions on what to bring/wear. Make sure to bring gloves and wear lots of layers (long sleeve, short sleeve, sweatshirt), something with a hood or a bandana to cover your neck. You don't want any of your skin showing. Hiking boots or cleats work well. Camo/hunting apparel is a plus.

I was a little nervous going into this, considering everyone told me to layer my clothing because it would feel like getting shot at by a bb gun... but I wore loose jeans and a long sleeve tee, and I had awesome fun and I survived! I left only with 2 decent bruises, but was proud to show off my battle wounds:) I was with a group of 18 people and we played multiple rounds on two different courses. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the courses, rules, and equipment. My only complaints: we only used orange paint balls - I would have liked to leave with a bit more colors on me! And the staging area didn't have anywhere to sit when I wanted to rest up. Paintball is not something that I would do again right away, but would be happy to return in the spring to give it another shot.

The course is wide and forgiving. The greens are well maintained. As are the tee boxes. The pro shop is loaded with everything a golfer could want. The parking lot could use improvement and is extremely narrow with every other space filled with pick up trucks. May have loved to have played during the week, but just passing through. All staff are polite and welcoming.
