What makes this experience so special goes far beyond just "riding horses on the beach." These are rescue horses--many of them coming from difficult or neglectful situations--and C Ponies has created something really beautiful by giving them a second chance at life. You can feel how deeply loved and well cared for these horses are. They are healthy, happy, and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. One of the most fascinating parts was learning that the water is actually healing for them. Being in the ocean supports their joints and overall wellness, so this experience isn't just fun for us--it's beneficial for them, too. That alignment made the entire experience feel even more special and ethical. Our guide, Raina, was fantastic. She had the perfect mix of humor (yes, some delightfully corny jokes), warmth, and knowledge. More importantly, you could tell she truly loves these horses and what she does. She made everyone feel comfortable, safe, and engaged the entire time. Walking the horses into the water--and even getting to experience them swimming--was surreal. Each horse had its own personality, which made it even more fun. You could tell they were relaxed, confident, and happy to be there. It didn't feel forced or transactional--it felt like a partnership between humans and animals. Living in Sarasota, it also meant a lot to support a business that is doing such meaningful work in our own SW Florida community. C Ponies is not only creating unforgettable experiences, but they are actively rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving these horses a life filled with purpose and care. If you're on the fence--book it. There is a small bar inside, and they are renovating more interior space for additional seating for the hot summer months. The wines are overall pretty tasty. They only grow muscadine grapes on the property and import other grapes from California and elsewhere. They have a selection of drier wines all the way to the sweet fruit wines. They also offer wine sorbets. My husband and I each got a wine flight of 4 wines for $18. I forgot how big the pours were but they were a decent size. They also offer wine tasting experience of 6 wines, smaller pours, that lasts 45 minutes. They have a small section of food. We got the pimento cheese and crackers, the cheese was delicious. They also had popsicles and ice cream, which my kids enjoyed. We got three bottles of wine to take home with us! We love supporting our Florida wineries! Also, our bartender Shelley was fantastic! Captain Memo's is on a much bigger ship, and though my kids had fun on it, I would call it "manic fun". There were an insane amount of people on board and all the kids were running and screaming everywhere (my daughter ended up getting elbowed in the eye), and we felt like we were dying of heat stroke because the ship has very poor ventilation and not enough shady seats. For the Pirate Cruise of Cortez, we absolutely LOVED it!! It was 1000% worth the hour drive from Clearwater. It's a decent sized boat with just the right number of people on board and shady seats with great breezes to keep us cool. It was extremely engaging and they had a very fun itinerary. My kids were wildly entertained and they did a great job keeping the kids' attention and keeping things under control. The staff put on an awesome show full of magic and wonder and did a fantastic job engaging with the kids. I could've sat back and watched the whole time from a comfortable and breezy bench in the shade, but it was so much fun that I found myself getting involved and having a great time. We went first thing in the morning and the weather was perfect. I can't recommend this place enough!! ‍
