Freedom taxi is so inconsistent! I used to call & once waited over a half hour for a previously scheduled taxi (no rain, no construction, at 8am). Thank God the woman running my job interview was kind & understanding! I had noticed an improvement since using the app, but now it's right back on Freedom Taxi standards. I scheduled a cab at 8:35 to pick me up at 9pm. At 8:53, I get a call from a guy saying he's 10 minutes out & on his way. So far so good, right? False! I checked the app at 9pm & it said he had passengers in his taxi. When I called him at 9:01, he said he was on his way to get me & would be right there. 10 minutes later I get a call saying he was outside. Clearly he picked someone else up on his way to me. And I needed to be AT my destination by quarter after--that's why I scheduled ahead!! I'm so frustrated with Freedom Taxi!! read more

I attempted to use a Freedom taxi stopped in front of my building, on 6/29/2014. I had the worst stroke survivable, and went up to the Freedom Taxi with my service dog; she was wearing a vest with patches that say "I am a service dog." The driver said "No dogs," locked his doors, and drove away brushing me with his car. read more

I wish I could give this company ZERO stars, but alas, one will do. I like the fact that they are a green cab company - it makes my liberal-leaning conscience feel a little better about not taking public transit - and I've used them when hailing random taxis on the street. However, when I've tried to make reservations AHEAD of time, they've failed me every time. Tonight was the last straw. I called at 4:20pm for a 7:10pm pick-up due to a Restaurant Week reservation in Center City (was coming up from South Philly near Tasker and Morris). At 6:47pm, I receive an automated call that a cab had been assigned to me (#1938) and would be arriving shortly. The clock hits 7:13pm, so I call to make sure it's still en route. The dispatcher informed me that the cab was two miles out and would arrive in 10-15 minutes. (He also mentioned that the firm does not guarantee pick-up times. Thanks for telling me after the fact.) The clock now hits 7:38pm (13 minutes later than the late pick-up time) and I once again call dispatch. I am informed that the cab that was assigned to me picked up someone else along the way. I had not been informed of this (obviously) and they apologized saying that I would be put at the top of the queue. I cancelled the cab, and my expired dinner reservation, and am now writing this review. I am thankful that although I am perturbed, it was only a dinner reservation. I wouldn't want to fathom a guess on how pissed off I'd be if I missed a flight or some other important event. The bottom line: feel free to hail a Freedom Taxi cab on the street if you see one passing by. But if you want to make a reservation to ensure a professional and punctual arrival, go with ANY other firm. Or better yet, just walk the few miles in the snow - you'll get to your destination faster. read more

I wanted to appreciate this new taxi company for new cars being fuel effeicent. I called at 7:15am for a taxi to the 30th street station. The dispatcher was vaque and dispondent and could not tell me when to expect the car. I waited more than 10 minutes then called and cancelled. I called Old City and they came in 5 minutes. I'll take the old beat up cars over fuel efficent if it means better service! read more

This chain looks all professional with their shiny new cars, and some of them are even hybrids...they really stand out. But when the chips were down, when my friend made a reservation with them, they didn't come through, and for a full 30 minutes, she called back repeatedly, getting no assurance, no ETA, no cab. If you're in the business of running a cab company, don't have your dispatchers accept reservations if you can't come through on them. Period. It would be fine to just say, "I'm sorry, we don't accept reservations." or "I'm sorry, in this weather things are a bit chaotic, I could place a reservation but you'd be unlikely to get a cab on time in that time frame." or "We're very busy now and we don't have enough drivers to get you in that time frame." This is fine because it allows the person to secure other transportation. It is not okay to place the reservation and then not deliver. read more

I put in a request 4.5 hours prior to the time I needed the cab only to recieve a call 4 minutes after my pickup time stating that my cab "broke down" while in route and thst there will be another cab in route. I called 20 minutes later to check the status of my cab only to be told that there is no cab in the area; Really, sooooooo what to the cab that your company was to send out to replace my original cab?? Their dispatchers aren't even in the City of Phila (they are actually in Connecticut). Poor service, and not customer friendly nor do they believe in putting the customer first. After calling my friend and I over to get into his cab at 1:30am, he drove 5 minutes and then said he needed a cash ride (he has a working credit card machine) and he was going to kick us out. Only when my friend said that was illegal did he drive on. He then said we spent all our money on alcohol (we were both sober) and that's why he didn't like taking credit card. Then he told us how long he had been driving a cab and told us that only because he called us over to his cab, he would keep driving. Now you know why Uber is running competition out of town. But I hopped in a Freedom cab at 30th, had a nice driver, clean car, A/C blasting so that the back was perfectly cool (at the driver's expense, as he was wearing a coat in summer, and declined my offer to turn down the A/C just for his sake). He took me the most direct route, and the fair was only $10 with generous tip, when other cabs have cost $13 with fair tip. Only qualms are that the car was quite small, and the driver far too talkative (though quite friendly, if some of the conversation from his end wasn't necessarily business appropriate). I called freedom taxi last night to see what the fare would be to my destination. I gave the lady my address and the address of where I was going. See quoted $15.00, when the taxi dropped me off it was double what I was quoted. I called freedom taxi again and spoke with Jennifer the Superviser and she spoke with the girl that gave me the quote and confirmed what I said. She said pay the driver and call back in the morning to get a refund. I called back and was told they never said any of this and that they never give out quotes. If you'd asked me several months ago, I probably would've given Freedom Taxi a 4- or 5-star review. I actually really liked the drivers I had gotten. I'm in the flat rate zone in Center City, and they were one of the few cab companies that consistently would let me start paying for the trip to the airport before we got to the terminal so I could just hop out and run to my gate, since I'm usually cutting it pretty close to my boarding times. (Other cab companies often staunchly refuse to start the payment processing until after they're parked, which takes up precious scrambling-through-security time.) They also consistently did not give me crap for paying by card -- again, when you're getting a guaranteed $30 fare + tip, the last thing I want is for you to tell me your bullshit "the reader is broken" excuse.. especially because that's illegal. And I personally think hybrids are perfect for city driving, so that makes me feel like a slightly better person (ha). That being said, I've had several bad experiences with Freedom Taxi in the past month that have been extremely frustrating and have me searching for a new "regular" cab company. Like others, I've called for pickups and have waited far too long past the supposed arrival times and sometimes given up and just hailed one off the street. (No easy feat at 5am, in my experience.) The dispatcher also has been rude and refuses to schedule a pickup at a different corner (my building complex has 4 different entrances at 4 different intersections, but there is only 1 address for the overall complex) because I need to provide an exact street address, not an intersection. The last straw was a few nights ago, when the #48 blew by the 3rd & Arch stop for no particular reason other than because it was a SEPTA bus, so some fellow disappointed to-be-passengers and I grabbed a cab to split. Despite us telling him we were going to be making 2 stops, he stopped the meter at the first one, and could not (or pretended not to) understand that one person wanted a change for a $20 bill, that that person was not going to pay for the entire ride, and that the other passengers wanted to go to a different location so he shouldn't have stopped the meter. When we finally gave up arguing with this idiot and decided to walk the extra 4 blocks, we paid him in cash--and then he had the gall to ask for MORE tip! I was excited for their Uber-esque app (that I have yet to actually use), but forget it. I'm moving on. Freedom Taxi, if you guys read these reviews, get your act together. I don't know if you've just hired terrible people in the past few months or what, but it makes for very unhappy customers. read more

On Tuesday night, around 6 p.m., I booked a Freedom Taxi through the online service on their webpage for 7 p.m. I was traveling from Temple University to the Academy of Music (which is typically a 15 minute drive). Since I'm a little north of Center City, there isn't a consistent number of taxis driving by on Broad, else I just would have hailed one. A little before 7 p.m. I get a call from a woman from dispatch who told me they were running a little behind and that they apologize for any inconvenience. Since I gave myself some wiggle-room time wise (I was reviewing a musical), I let it slide. A few minutes later, I got an automatic call that informed me of the cab number that was assigned to me. Then I waited. Half an hour passed and still no sign or word from the cab company. I was fuming at that point and had enough, so I just called City Wide taxi. I'm not a confrontational person, and I gave the company the benefit of a doubt since they had all my contact information, but it was beyond ridiculous. It's not like I missed the cab either, I was waiting on my stoop for the most part. I kid you not, an Old City taxi was at my apartment in under five minutes. I was hoping that I would get a call from the cab driver or dispatch asking where I was, so I could tell them how poor their service was, but never did. They essentially wrote me off. Perhaps they should spend less time working on their computer and smartphone applications and start paying attention to their reliability. read more

We needed a taxi van with a wheelchair lift to pick us up from the airport, so we called ahead to make sure we wouldn't be stranded. Our cab did not come, and after calling the dispatcher, they said no taxi could pick us up! Turns out the Freedom Taxi's phone center is in Chicago and they don't know diddly about Philly airport, because we went to taxi dispatching services at the airport and a freedom taxi pulled right up! Consistently the worst service; NEVER on time, even when I call a cab the night before and schedule a pickup the following day for a set time to go to the airport (no, 20 minutes late is not acceptable). I've also had several drivers who had no idea where they were going, or forgot (if I tell you "10th & Pine," don't miss 10th St and have to go down to 8th; cab drivers should at least know Center City like the back of their hand), which added extra time (and $) onto my fare. I just gave this company a 5th chance and called a cab an hour ahead of time to schedule a pickup, only to have them call me at the time I was supposed to be picked up saying, "Our driver is running 15-20minutes late; is that okay?" On a Saturday afternoon I made an appointment through their app for a 9:15 am Sunday pickup. I received a confirmation email. No car ever showed up. At 9:25 am I called and the dispatch told me the car was 20 minutes away, so I waited. At 10 am I called again and the dispatch told me the car was 25 minutes away. I cancelled. I called multiple times, but was either hung up on or put into a transfer/hold loop. I've only caught these cabs while walking in South Philly/Center City. Here's my review: The cabs are fairly clean and the drivers are fairly kind. You can have the typical conversation with the cabbie about the Phillies game last night, or if you're anti-social like me, play Angry Birds and look at the meter occasionally to see how much this is going to cos you. We went 7 blocks, and it cost $6.50. Okay, that's a huge rip off. I might as well have called a freaking Uber car if I'm gonna have to pay THAT much for 7 blocks. Seriously, I know the TV in the back is an added plus, and it defiantly was an upgrade from what I'm used to (Germantown Cab Co), but that was ridiculously expensive and if there wasn't a choice between waiting for that hour late SEPTA buss and walking I would have chosen to walk those 7 blocks instead if I had known that it would cost me a dollar per street! read more

I am usually using to work two times in a week by this cab! And after trying a lot of cabs this was exactly what i was looking for! I am not5 the person who like to catch the cab on a street. i like to reserve the cab and know that it will come on time and with no troubles! I really want to say thanks for dispatchers which i think in only this cab service are pretty polite and calm! We grabbed a cab after a night out from Manayunk to the Crown Plaza Hotel. We had taken a cab there as well and it was about $8. He didn't take the highway, which was fine, but then he was going the wrong direction down city ave! I said something to my husband loud enough for him to hear, but he said nothing. Then I said something directly to the driver and he said nothing. Finally my husband leaned through the window and said, "yo, buddy! We are going the wrong direction!" The driver then asked us where we wanted to go.....seriously?! The meter kept ticking and was over $16 by the time we got to the hotel. He didn't apologize and when I asked what we owed him he pointed to the meter. We are usually great tippers but he did not get one. read more

My first experience with Freedom cab this am was really awesome. I downloaded the app and booked from it, they assigned a cab and I could track it all the way till it got to me. No wondering if it's coming or not just watched my phone as it drove to me. This in itself was enough but the driver was also awesome, so friendly, so polite. He asked if the heat was ok, he took a call and was whispering, seriously whispering, he made sure he apologized for the call. He took pride in what he did and the service was a standout in all my years of taking cabs. 8am from 48th and Baltimore to the airport on the 18th of Nov 2014 for Freedom Cab to track this driver and have him teach all others how to be this AWESOME! Freedom Taxi is the worst taxi company in Philadelphia. I scheduled a taxi 24 hr in advance to go from my house (art museum area) to the 30th street train station. I also called the company 45 min before my scheduled pick up to confirm. The taxi NEVER came despite the fact that the company kept sending me texts saying a taxi had been dispatched, I called several times and the guy in charge, Alex, said they did not have enough taxis and he could go nothing to help. I called another company and the taxi came in less than 5 min but unfortunately I missed my train. I will never call or take Freedom taxi again. The worst thing was that when I arrived to the station, there were approximately 7 freedom taxis parked waiting for passengers and doing nothing! I had to pay extra for missing my train. Do NOT use this company if you need to reserve a taxi ahead of time. I broke my arm last week and the following morning, which was freezing out by the way, I needed a ride to the orthopedic. I called ahead and reserved a taxi specifically because it was physically difficult for me to go out in the ice and hail a cab, and I informed the dispatcher that I had a broken arm. About ten minutes after my scheduled pickup they hadn't shown, but when I called they let me know my car was 6 minutes away. Annoying, but alright, it's cold out and they're probably busy. Fifteen minutes later with no car in sight, I called again. This time a dispatcher told me she saw my booking on the queue but had 'no estimated time if arrival'. By this time I was already past the fifteen minute grace period of my appointment, and I had to reschedule and walk there instead. This was with a broken arm, with my coat only draped over me because of my sling, in polar vortex temperatures. This scheduling mishap affected my meetings and obligations the rest of the day. Based on reviews I'm now reading (and based on the fact my car was six minutes away, and then suddenly not coming), it seems that my reservation was disregarded for people who hailed down freedom taxis, and this is unacceptable. If they're not ging to honor reservations, DON'T TAKE THEM. It's pretty simple. read more

The experience started off well - a Philadelphia cab company that not only accepts online reservations, but also has a fare calculator and tells you to download their app! "Wow!" I thought, "This must be legit, seeing as how it's decades ahead of the other cab companies in Philadelphia with this 'technology.'" Well, now comes the problem. I placed my online cab reservation at 3pm on Saturday, prior to any snowflakes falling, for a 6:30pm pick up at my house. 6:35 rolls around, and I decide to call, because we are going to a surprise party and would like to arrive before the guests of honor. The phone rings, continuously, for about 45-50 seconds before the recording picks up. The recording boasts the ability to now book online and download their app. Then it allows you to finally hear a menu of options, that is not easy to hear. After selecting "1" to reserve a cab or talk to dispatch, I am then sitting on hold for about 8-9 minutes (I gave up counting as I stared longingly out of my front door). Finally, once dispatch picks up, I am greeted with a warning first: cabs are running about 60-90 minutes delayed, how may they help me. I nicely explain that I placed an online reservation, here is the confirmation number and my last name, can you please tell me when the driver will arrive. After looking into his crystal ball, I am told, yet again, that cabs are running 60-90 minutes delayed. At this point, I am not only frantically trying to arrive at the party before the guests of honor, I am also LIVID that my prior reservation was clearly not honored in way. I tell the dispatcher that this is unacceptable, my reservation has been in the system for over 3 hours, I have somewhere to be before 7:15 and it's now 6:40. He "apologizes", but reiterates the delay and tells me that they will do their best and the driver will call when he is on his way. I gave them 10 minutes to get there or I was finding another means. Upon hanging up, I checked Uber and there was a car within 15 minutes away, so I decided to take that route. What do you know, lo and behold. Freedom's prerecorded message calls as my Uber is 5 minutes away and my cab is coming soon! Again, I attempt to reach dispatch to tell them to please cancel at this point, but the wait is unbearable. I finally walked outside to get into my warm awaiting Uber towncar, and there is the Freedom taxi, pulling over. Now, I commend them prioritizing my request, but in my honest opinion, the reservation should have been honored without my angry call and I should not have been expected to wait 60-90 minutes past my reservation time. I will not reserve with Freedom in the future, but I cannot say that I will not use their cab service if I am hailing on a street corner. Be warned that their customer service and lack of concern for the customers' time is sad, and this review would not have been 1 star if they would have honored the online reservation. read more

The phone process was simple & quick and within about 10 min I received a automated call telling me my cab was to arrive shortly. Another 15 minutes passed as I watched two vacant freedom taxis fly by my location. So after another 20 min and still no taxi, I called another cab company (PHL Taxi) and within 5 minutes I was picked up, still no freedom taxi in sight. I'll never call this company again. read more

Ok, clearly Freedom needs to get their act together! Like the numerous other yelpers, I called a cab for my mother to go to the train station. Pick up at 4pm please. I even got a automated confirm of my cab number 1119, awesome this won't be another taxi debacle, that I normally get! Ummm wrong- 4pm came and went. I called the dispatcher for an update. She informed me that he's right out front! I told her that I was standing outside and there is no one there. "He'll be right there momentarily." Is he out front or coming soon? They clearly aren't the same thing! I called back again and got another dispatcher who informed me that that pick up was complete (they had the address correct and everything!) That's funny! My mom is still here and we have been waiting by the door and there have been NO taxis, soooo where did this supposed pick up go down?! My poor mother had to quickly run to the corner on this cold day to hail one, to catch her train time! Which she did not!! She was so nice to say that maybe they forgot and it's ok! I know how businesses work and it's pretty straight forward! When you are suppose to be at a destination at a certain time= you show up! It's pretty standard! UPDATE: Spoke to to some supervisor jerk named Ed. If he reads this Ed-F U you jerk. Beyond rude to me. Called me names for not being able to take pictures of the last rude drivers ID and cab numbers that weren't displayed. Claimed I was stupid because I couldn't find them. Would not even consider his thieving racist jerk driver might not have them displayed or turn on a light. Claimed being threatened with violence was a lie. It goes on. I'm going to just stop at posting this review and telling you, the reader, if you get on one of these cabs and the driver doesn't have his info out, you need to be prepared to defend yourself if needed and have a charged phone to record it all. I'm stopping at that because service this bad from people doing essentially illegal activities will happen again. And hopefully it happens with the right person who can do something about it. Never again. I cannot state how imperative it is to AVOID this cab company. I have had it!! I rely on cabs a lot. Too many of them are BEYOND dirty and reeking of cigarettes. Too many drivers do not display their information or light the cab enough to get it. Too many drivers "conveniently" miss turns and exits. Too many drivers are rude and try to up sell you. Too many talk on the phone instead of paying attention to the road. And too often, when trying to complain about it to a supervisor, they act like it's YOUR fault. It's apparently YOUR fault the driver wants $10 dollars more than the agreed price or whats' on the meter. It's YOUR fault the driver was rude to you and pulled away as you are getting out. It's YOUR fault the maps don't work and the drivers can't follow directions. It's YOUR fault if you call one and it shows up an hour late. Now I am going to be fair. Not ALL of the experiences are bad. HOWEVER, more than any other company in the city, THIS one is more consistent with going hand and hand with the bad experiences. Cabs aren't cheap, so this is REALLY irritating. I'm done with them. I'm telling you, don't take these cabs. There are dozens of others at any given moment to grab. If you see one, ignore it and get some other brand, any other brand. And it's sad because they are supposed to be environmentally friendly but I don't see how that can be when a good chunk of your ride is driving around trying to explain to the driver where to go over and over again. I give up. I wanted to like this company but I have been disappointed, overcharged, and treated like absolute garbage by drivers, dispatchers, and supervisors too many times. Booked online "reservations" twice over the past year. Both at least a day in advance. Both times they called me 10 minutes before the scheduled pick up time telling me they are running late. Had no idea when they could get someone to me. She said "there are currently no drivers in my area". I live 10-15 minutes from center city. I ended up driving myself both times to not miss a dinner reservation. I cannot imagine using them for something more important like going to the airport. Rode in their Taxi # P-835 at 10am on Saturday Sept. 7, 2013. I consider driver #112116 (Mr. Islam) to be a thief. I know Philadelphia well, and the cab ride from 30th street station to Penn's Landing is about $10 - 12 ( i took that same ride on 9/6) - but today the driver took my wife & I on a ride that was outrageously out of the way, just to boost his fare to $22+ on the meter. He went on a ridiculous route, and I politely questioned him. He assured me that he was taking me the best & fastest way, but then apologized to us at the station and requested $15 Cash. I have been late to work and waited countless minutes for them. They frequently cancel my trips without notifying me. This is because the driver can accept your ticket, and then pick up someone else instead. What is the point to booking a cab if they aren't going to show? This is why you may as well use Uber. You will pay more, but you will be on time and the driver will be friendly. Hopefully they will change their business plan soon and make their cab drivers pick up the booking customers. If I could give them a zero I would. The driver wouldn't help when he saw me struggling to put my luggage in the trunk. Then in the middle of Philly traffic he tells me get out and close his trunk. Horrendous experience - called for an early morning cab for my flight the night before. The cab didn't come at all and customer service was horrible - very abrasive and dishonest about waiting times.
