I've driven by this store hundreds of times and it looks small and shady (IMO) from the outside. But you step in and it is a large store. At least 2/3rds of out is an amazing wine shop. My favorite wines are from the Beaujolais region or the burgundy region / Cotes de Rhône. I look for these in liquor stores, but all too often just have one or two or three to choose from. But here, I had so many to choose from that it was hard. I was able to but a Domaine Faiveley Mercurey at a good price (actually $1.00 less than google says I should pay). Smith & Cross and Diplomatico are two fancy rums that you don't find just anywhere, but Freeman's has them, and more. They recently remodeled and have increased their wine inventory ever so slightly, which is good news for you winos. Rum babies like me are even happier that our selection has spread out on shelves across the aisle from where they used to be. Don't let Freeman's sketchy-looking exterior scare you away. The staff is very friendly and super knowledgeable. The interior is clean, bright, and has an open, expansive feeling to it. This is one of my favorite stores of any kind in OKC. They were limited on that but I guess there's just not a big crowd that seeks that around okc. 4 stars for having 3 bottles of Hibiki Harmony, though. I don't shop anywhere else in the city for liquor. They have a great selection of spirits, much better than Byrons in my opinion. Their prices are a little higher than Byrons, but there is not the warehouse feeling to the place. I made it about 6 feet into the store and spent $40 on a pretty big haul. I freaking love this place. I like trying different kinds of beer and Freeman's has a massive selection, which is great, but the best part is the "new beer" shelf right inside the front door and the "staff selection" shelf right next to it. I walk in and take a look, grab a single can of the new Distihl sour (I don't usually like sours but my friends all do so I'll be able to say I tried it first and you can buy single cans at Freeman's), a 6 pack of a new Dead Armadillo (great OK brewery) ginger pale ale, a 4 pack of a new Clown Shoes triple IPA (Clown Shoes is my favorite brewery nobody's heard of and haven't ever seen a triple IPA), and was pretty set when a bottle of a seasonal Great Divide Chocolate Cherry Yeti on the staff picks shelf caught my eye. I love Yeti and didn't know they made seasonal varieties, but now I do. read more

If you love craft beer, this is the best liquor store in the city to find some unique brews. I was absolutely blown away with just how extensive their beer selection was. I'd go so far as to say that it has more craft brews than some liquor stores have liquors. The staff were all super friendly and had quite a bit of beer knowledge. I'm not much of a liquor/wine drinker these days, so I can't comment on those selections, but I will say that overall Freeman's seems to have just about everything you could possibly think of. How have I never reviewed Freeman's? This happens sometimes when a local place is so obviously wonderful, I forget to write a review. We used to stop by here a lot more often when we lived near the Plaza district. Now we drop in when we're running our Western Ave errands (Savory Spice, 42nd Street Candy, etc). When K worked at CHK he'd stop in a lot on his way home, and he and the owner have a fun banter whenever we stop in now. They have a small but very well-curated selection of spirits, wines and beer, and they carry lots of local beers. One of the reasons I love this place is the fact that it is smaller, so it is easier to pop in, grab what you need and pop back out, faster than you could make it to the back of the store at Byron's. Hands down the best liquor store in OKC. Well organized, huge selection, useful info and ratings about many selections, case discounts, dog friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. If you are a drinker this is your store. Need fernet? They got it. Wondering what gin to use in a martini? Ask and you'll get some good advice. Don't forget the vermouth. Want to explore new beers? You can buy individual bottles. You won't find another store that has a better selection of booze. I love seeing new whiskeys and beers almost every time I come. Hands down best liquor store in the okc/metro area. We drive down from Edmond to restock the home bar every couple months. Watched it change over the 7 years I've shopped at Freeman's and its gotten bigger and better by the year. It seems as if the employees have a PhD in booze cause they know their stuff!! But you would have to with the insane selection of anything with alcohol that you will ever find. They have an unlimited variety of hard liquor and 1000's of different beers from all over the world. I found this place after contacting they brewery overseas trying to place an order. At the time, they where the only place in Oklahoma(and one of only a few nationwide) where you could buy Iron Maiden's Trooper beer when it was first was released. Prices are competitive and although a little cluttered but very clean. It would be impossible for a collection of inventory this size not to be a little cluttered. If you need ANYTHING drinkable with an alcohol content, chances are they will have it or at the worst, track it down for you. If your not buying your booze from Freeman's, your not enjoying it!! It's the sort of place you'd probably pass by in favor of a bigger, shinier booze shop, but you'd be making a sad mistake. Hiding behind this somewhat nondescript facade is quite the wonderland of spirits, making me sometimes feel like a kid in an adult candy store. Looking for violet liqueur or a selection of 6 or 7 absinthes? This is your place. Beers aplenty, more cider than you can shake a stick at, delightful (and well-priced) wines not offered at many other shops, and never a ridiculous crowd of slackers who forgot until 8:45 Saturday night that liquor stores are closed on Sunday. True there's not a massive parking situation, but equally true that it's not needed. Stop in for a browse and surprise yourself. The first time I went in to Freeman Liquor Mart, I was humoring my father, who was helping me move in and who desperately needed a cold brew. He was thrilled to find some labels that he isn't able to get in Arkansas. Not being an especial beer afficionado myself, I wasn't sure what else to look forward to (though it turns out they have excellent craft beer, and Ashley (The Beer Girl) does a good job keeping Facebook updates coming!). I did note a pretty fine wine selection and mentally bookmarked the place (which wasn't hard to do, considering this is my neighborhood). Flash forward to the present, in which time I have visited Freeman's more times than I can count. The help is dedicated and knowledgeable. When I go in with a particular wine or liquor label in mind, the staff is quick to help me find it or an acceptable substitute. Usually, their recommendations are spot on, whether I'm looking for a varietal, very particular label, or local libation (shout out to Prairie Wolf and Black Mesa). This local Western Ave. liquor mart has a smaller (compared to Byron's) yet perfectly crafted selection of spirits and beer. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to provide suggestions, parking is usually never an issue (on both Western and the side street), and prices are typical. They have all the local beers and will widely promote Oklahoma seasonal beers when they come out. One plus on the spirits, they usually have a nice selection of quality Latin rums (Diplomatico, Zacapa, Santa Teresa, etc) that you don't easily find at other liquor stores. Also, their prosecco/champagne/sparkling selection seemed pretty decent to me. Overall, it's conveniently located, they have informative spirit/beer descriptions, and patrons may even help you find what you're looking for. read more

I was blown away by the wine selection -- from $5 big bottle of red to $300 imported rarity. The clerks were friendly and super knowledgeable of their stock. I ended up with some canned wine (2ish glasses per can) which was really tasty! Parking is right off Western but the spaces are long and people are courteous to let you back out. Great local liquor store. I am a beer nerd, and love trying out new brands. They have a very large "pick six" section, where you can buy single bottles & cans - so that you are able to try a beer without having to buy a 4 or 6 pack. They have an incredible selection with tons of international, domestic & local options. They also have a ton of wine & liquor. The staff is super cool, and very helpful if you are looking to be steered in any particular direction. I like wine, but don't know a whole lot about it - and anytime I ask for advice I end up with a great tasting bottle. read more

My girlfriend lives right by Freeman's so I'm in there pretty often and I've got to say it's great. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. They have pretty good knowledge of beers and were helpful before I knew what I liked. Their local beer selection is great as is their beer selection in general. Got referred here by another store as we were looking for craft singles to buy since we were from out of town. Amazing store. Staff was knowledgeable about their selections, showing me various brands, styles, for over 45 minutes. Staff took my baskets up full of beer and even loaded them into my car. This liquor store looks sketchy from the outside, so I had never gone until a friend recommended it and I am very glad they did. Their prices are competitive with Byron's, but their selection and customer service is so much better. All the employees are super friendly and knowledgable. I could spend hours in there talking to them and finding new deliciousness to drink. They recommended a quinoa whiskey (who would've thought, I'm sure that means it's healthy though) and it was awesome. I definitely would have never found that otherwise. read more

They have good stuff and they know it! I called to ask for a few different kinds of bourbon and the guy was so rude. After he told me that there wasn't any way I would be able to find the first one, I asked about the second one and he said "well you're gonna have to come in and look around yourself". Unbelievable. He was super knowledgeable about their selection, craft beer in OKlahoma, and even told us how to get to get to some nearby breweries that might have items they didn't stock.
