What this has become over the year's, I am unsure. This used to have a lot of great outlets, but now they are few and far between. Why? LL Bean is why. Pretty soon the town will be slowly absorbed by the mega giant, in a similar way to the local Great Desert of Maine. Not that I enjoyed shopping here but the town is going the way of the shopping mall. It is an ancient relic of the past and the town is dominated by the ever-growing monolith that is LL Bean. Nothing to see here folks. just keep driving. read more

The only reason we hit these stores is because we were at the LL Bean campus and they were literally right there! Variety of shops from Ralph Lauren to Cole Haan, Old Navy and everything in between. Typical higher end to medium end and outlet shopping set in a cozy village like feel. Absolute tourist trap. read more

Great food, shopping, of course the ocean isn't far it's Maine! :) my wife and enjoy coming and Having a date night, we eat, shop, head LL Beans's and many other shops in the area. I've never been an extreme shopper, but on a rainy day in Maine, the outlets in Freeport are a great activity and only a thirty minute drive from Portland. You get the feel of a quaint town but instead of your local bank and convenient store located on each corner, you've got Gap, The Body Shop, North Face and the biggest of all LL Bean [among many, many other outlets]. Grab a coffee at the Coffee By Design counter located at the bottom of the main LL Bean store and spend the morning walking through isles of sale or close out items. Even if you're NOT a shopper, like myself, LL Bean has some lovely "non-shopper" appeal: fish tanks, taxidermy work and 'how to', in addition to the location of the outlets which is a lovely walk, even on rainy days. If you can get over the continuous crowds and piles upon piles of THINGS, this might just be Neverland for you (you will NEVER leave without armfuls of new purchases). Or, if you're like me, once you feel overwhelmed by the crowds you can always venture over to Maine Beer Company for a beer to relax. read more

The best thing about this outlet is how little it feels like an outlet, and how much it feels like a quaint small town. Rather than the strip mall setup that is common in most outlets, this outlet is a collection of previously existing shops, with the addition of a few new larger places. This serves to make the whole experience feel like you're sauntering down Main Street during your time in Freeport, rather than stuck in some contrived commercial real estate nightmare. Somehow even the Paul Bunyan-sized LL Bean boot only adds to the experience (and you MUST have a photo op here while you're in town!) The deals are pretty sweet, too. I shopped around before scoring a nice pair of cropped pants at LL Bean for $4.99 and some shoes at J Crew that I thought would be $30 and actually rang up for $12 with the day's specials. $12 for J Crew shoes?!? Yes, believe it. As Bean himself would say, this place is "wicked-good". read more

I don't really like outlets in general since I'm not into brand names but seeing the many LL Bean stores and their huge boot outside was cool! Not many choices here-there's just Gap, Banana, Claire's, Coach, American Eagle...etc. read more

Right after we got off our ship in Portland, Maine, we took a taxi out to Freeport. Unlike other outlet malls I've shopped, this one is different. It seems that this whole town is an outlet mall. Instead of a mall built for the outlet stores, the stores are house in existing buildings. Some modifications in the buildings to accommodate any extra square footage, but otherwise the original buildings were preserved. It's like shopping in a neighborhood, except the shops are outlets. Still had to cross busy streets to go between stores. Along with the usual outlet mall suspects: Harry and David, Banana Republic, Gap, ASICs, Coach, Cole-Haan......, these outlets are anchored by the LL Bean flagship store, and it's outlet. Because it's in the Northeast, there are Ben and Jerry's ice cream stands, and carts located everywhere selling lobster rolls. At the time we visited, it was raining pretty heavy. It was a warm rain, so didn't bother us. read more

A hybrid of outlet shops and a town rolled into one. It is a better layout than those enormous outlet strip malls. The people are super friendly at all the stores. Great deals are definitely around and don't take much effort to be found. The L.L. Bean store is pretty cool for anything you can imagine. They have 3 different shops. The Pattagonia and North Face outlets are pretty well stocked as well and have amazing deals. They have recently in the past few years added more food options along main street and added a nice outlet plaza with Nike, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein and Izod and a few other big names. Along main street there are dozens of other big name retailers like Hartmann for luggage, Nine West, etc. You get the idea. It is sometimes very crowded on weekends, especially in the summer. But it is still worth the trip while visiting Maine. I like these outlets better than the ones down in Kittery. read more

I have been coming to Freeport for a few years now and have found some great deals. They may not have as many stores as some other outlet places, but the selection they have can certainly keep you busy all day. They continue to add new stores and the place is well kept and in a more quaint setting. Stores include: Banana Republic, Gap, Abercrombie, Bass, Coach, Timerland, Polo, Nine West, J. Crew, North Face, Patagonia, a big LL Bean store and LL Bean outlet, etc. There are a number of good places to eat right around and in with the outlets so you can make a relaxing day of shopping. The Maine coast is near by. Really a great place to stop for some shopping. read more

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 STARS for Freeport! Maybe it was because I caught one of the most beautiful days of the summer here but this place is beautiful. It was a calming and relaxing shopping trip worth the travel to get there. All the stores are located along this main street and it has a nice community like feel to it. It's like walking through a neighborhood of stores! There are all kinds of cute cafe's and restaurants where you can grab a bite and continue shopping. The LL Bean is HUGE! you can fine whatever you need there... definitely worth taking a look, even if you aren't into the whole LL Bean look. its a great day trip if your looking for some good shopping on a nice day! read more

I love going to Freeport Outlets best!! You're not driving from outlet to outlet! You park your car and it's just a great little town with lots of great stores and tons of places to eat! You can spend hours here and never get bored. Clothing stores, card stores, restaurants, ice cream shops and so much more.. With tons of free parking! This is the place to go..even on the weekend it didn't seem that crowded! read more

I like this district. The area has a neighborhood feel, even though all the stores are "outlets". It's a great place to spend the day shopping. Just walk up and down the main street and you're done. You are guaranteed to find a few stores you want to check out. I'm definitely going back. read more

Your basic outlet place with some very nice outlets though. Of course it is all worth it because it is the LL Bean country.... This is there flagship store with lots of cool stuff and activities LL Bean trademark shoe outside.... The outlets are really nice and love the layout wherein they are not in a mall but sort of main street downtown look. If you are around here and need to replenish the wardrobe..definately a stopover needed. read more

The LL Bean store was impressive but that's about it. We didn't find any great deals and overall we're disappointed. I do love the set-up, being able to park and walk. Kittery has a much better variety of stores (but isn't as easy to walk). One thing I noticed were the number of stairs to get into stores, even inside the stores there were more stairs. It seems like it would be hard to navigate in a wheelchair or with a stroller. The food options also aren't all that great. read more

Now, this is outlet mall shopping heaven for outdoors people- LL Bean Factory and Outlet, Patagonia, Horny Toad, North Face. Plus, it has an intimate small town feel with all the buildings. I have been here at least twice and it's a hit or miss here. Sometimes, you luck out and find some great bargains. Other times, you are disappointed. But, there is great shops to explore and plenty of dining to choose from. I came up here one time for a grad dorms shopping trip at UConn. Everyone seemed to be happy with this place because we needed to get shopping done before Xmas. My sis loved the Horny Toad polo shirt I got her here. However, pickings are slim at the Horny Toad since only things reasonably priced are samples. Sometimes, you get lucky and go there when there is a sale. Same goes for North Face and Patagonia. LL Bean outlet moved from their trailer park ghetto building into a nicer one on the upper level of the new outlet mall site. Best day ever hands down. I got $20 off from LL Bean Visa and on top of it another $10 after the sales person rang up my order. Pretty sweeeet for my new winter coat. read more

You would never know it by passing this town on the highway (except for LL Beans Headquarters that is) but this town is home to the biggest outlet downtown around. Even bigger and better than Kittery and Conway NH. This is set up like a village and even has a brand new area that makes this even bigger. Throw in LL Beans 24 hour headqaurters campus and this is a very nice place to hit up some pretty good bargains. There is everything from Cole Haan to Banana Republic to Bass and GAP. Plus there are other shops scattered in between and there are parking lots everywhere. Make sure to hit this place up as you won't be sorry! read more

This place is great! What sets is apart from other outlets is not the stores so much as the layout. Each outlet is its own building and each building is so quaint from the outside. For example the Banana Republic store looks like a bank. I wish I had taking a picture to show you. I'm not sure I would want to come here in the winter but in the summer it is fantastic. There are plenty of great food establishments around including a place that specializes in BROWNIES!!!! And one that specializes in WHOOPIE PIES!!!!!! And one the specializes in ITALIAN SANDWICHES (these are exclusive to Maine, like Kolaches are to Texas)!!!!!! Oh, yes, back to the clothes....boring...did I mention the whoopie pies? read more

Compared to other outlets that I have been to in the United States, I quite enjoy this spot. You feel more like you're meandering through a shopping district rather than shops that were explicitly plunked onto a campus in the middle of nowhere. I really only visited the LL Bean store, but could imagine enjoying the shopping here more so than say Woodbury Commons in New York. read more

One of the nicest outlets I have ever been to. Although all the shops were prep-tastic we found some pretty awesome deals at LL Bean and J. Crew. Since it was located on the main street of the Freeport you were able to walk to a number of other adorable little local shops and restaurants. Very clean, pleasant and well organized! read more

My favorite outlet! I only come here for the summer, but when I do, Im always happy!! Gotta go to LL Bean and JCrew. Polo and Brooks Brothers can be hit or miss. I miss the Burberry store though. Major plus about this outlet is that most of the stores are dog friendly and many of the restaurants know that so they save outdoor seating for people with dogs. Love that! I also get tired and usually wind up at the Dairy Queen in the shack situated in the center of everything :) And I couldn't help but notice that all parking spaces and garage spaces were free. And they have a train station! read more

All outlets are generally the same expect for Freeport. Maybe it's the outdoor small town like setup or maybe its how nice the people are, or maybe it's because the Gap is huge. Who knows why exactly but it seems to be a mixture of all that. There are also many great restaurants and cafes situated through which is much better than the usually food court with the uninspiring selections of pizza and pizza. read more

How can you NOT like discounted clothing?! So many great stores packed into one tiny little village is a shopaholic's dream!

Located in one sweet little sleepy town, the outlets are perfectly situated. Imagine New England cottages and mainstream shopping all in one. There are many high-end stores and many run of the mill ones like Banana and GAP. The pricing in all the outlets weren't too impressive, but I would be willing to visit again to see if it gets better over time. Props to the awesome independent Maynard companies, like "When Pigs fly" and local coffee and lobstah roll shops. read more

Freeport rules. The LL Bean stores are incredible and the North Face outlet is the only NF outlet in New England I believe. There's also like 40 other stores and a Gritty McDuff's pub nearby. A great shopping destination - easily one of Maine's best (if not the best). read more

A lot of changes have taken place since visiting this outlet mecca almost 30 years ago. Originally, the historic town gained fame with the LL Bean store which in the early 1980s was joined by a Dansk outlet selling dinner ware at discounted prices. Soon other outlets moved to town with the condition that the down town historic buildings would remain in tacked. In fact, zoning was so strict that the town made news when a Mc Donalds was required to do business out of a historic house rather build a typical franchise building. Old time local businesses existed next to national companies. In its early years Freeport had little competition with off price retailers with the exception of possibly Kittery, ME. Fast forward to my last visit this month. LL Bean which was once a large single store now has a larger and growing presence in town with 2 additional stores, home and sport, a outlet store, and a restaurant. Old time local business have closed (a Maine based ice cream parlor is one business I recalled). While the Mc Donalds' still resides in the old house zoning may have been relaxed to remove a historic block of stores to make room for a new retail building in the form of a shopping plaza/center off Maine street. With these changes parking availability has improved. Likewise Freeport now competes with larger outlets nationwide which offer the identical stores if not the same brands closer to home. In closing , Freeport is a nice place to stop but with the exception of LL Bean is no long a unique destination trip in my opinion read more

I like these outlets because unlike other outlets it's peaceful shopping! The mere setting of place is nice in itself to enjoy. Very tranquil and you don't feel pressured to have to hit every spot. It's like walking around a little downtowny area of a small town. Stores aren't gigantic, but can hold their own. I also like the fact that there are little independent specialty stores scattered among the big name factory stores. Makes outlet shopping a lot more charming than zoo-like outlet environments in, say, Orlando. Ha. read more

The Freeport Outlets are the best! I used to be a big fan of the Kittery Outlets but now that I've come here I can't go back. The stores are all extremely well stocked and they carry larger women's sizes. The prices are outstanding and the clothes are modern and not out of fashion. There is plenty of parking and great places to eat. You can easily spend the entire day here and not get bored. I highly recommend coming here. It's worth the trip. read more

Just wanted to comment on the extraordinary high level of customer service LL Bean has. I recently had a couple of returns and their customer service reps couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. I told one she must love to go to work because of the latitude the company allows them to make sure their customers are completely satisfied, which I was. I wish more of their products were made in the USA even if it costs more, I don't shop there because they're cheaper than anyone else, I shop there because of the quality of their products and excellent customer service. read more
