A smaller, squaerer version of SF-Main library in downtown. Same disgruntled staff members mopping about the second floor. Vending machines instead of a cafe. Same old dusty books that you would expect. Theres a few shopping plazas nearby that have food, and im sure they are cleaner than some of the areas adjacent to SF's location.. iE:Instead of having to stare down larkin street, you would be looking at freemonts version of stonestown galleria BUT.....parking here is so much cheaper than parking at the SF branch locations... Fremont Main Library - Chair - Libraries Near Me - Fremont, California

I like coming here during finals week and during midterms. I find this place quit and really easy place for me to consintrated and foucus on my work. And you will be able to find a wide section of books and movies as this library is huge. The only problem I have is that this is main libary and is pretty big that can cause it to be packed. I like sitting in the the coner and away from people where I am not destarrcted by people watching and where I can focus more and there is a lot of setting in conner seating and with a lot of seating they don't have has much outlet plugs which can make it difficult for people who have dying laptops. But the other thing I like about this library is that you can print for 10 cents. I would recommend this library if your looking to get away and looking to a place to read or study. read more

Never ever see a library have that much homeless people, they tolled luggage and many bags come in... nice WiFi, plenty study spot, not enough plug in, also not quiet enough most of time, people calling, kids crying.. This library is HUGE and I love it, but why are the parking spots so tiny ? And the spots are always so difficult to find, it makes it such a pain. This is a great place if you lack internet, or need to do your studies. I see people of all ages come here. The only downside is that they don't have many higher education literature. I came here looking for some poetry and they didn't have anything that I needed for school..so I had to just use my university library which is a pain since most of the stuff is always checked out when I need it. Anyhoo, I highly recommend this place...not sure if they still have that summer reading program but I always did it as a kid and you win prizes when you finish a certain number of hours =) read more

The first complaint I have is that this place doesn't look anything like a library. It looks like one of those commercial buildings where suits and ties go to work. The library is blocked by so many trees you can't even see the library sign. I have nothing against trees but perhaps some street signs for the out-of-towners? Second complaint would be the overall depressive nature of the interior. When I opened the door and walked in, I walked into an atrium with the words on the wall, "Information, Wisdom, Knowledge". As I read these words the words ruggedly bounced shut. The rest of the library feels this way, good intentions but in need of a renovation. Thirdly, and finally, although there seems to be a lot of space for studying and the like, the space needs to be retrofitted for computer users. If a library isn't fit for laptops then it is seriously lagging behind everyone else. Power outlets and great wifi please. Overall this is a decent library. I did end up finding a lot of books to check out. The art section is surprisingly better than most. I couldn't find a design section but oh well. They have good comics section too. Not the most modern library, but it's located near some parks so that's a plus. read more

Ah, a buffet table of knowledge for those looking for a feast! Convenient location on Stevenson Blvd adjacent to the police station, Central Park and Lake Elizabeth. Brightly lit and large windows line the structure. There are still cozy nooks for quiet studying and reading, despite the very limited number of private study rooms. Because of the limited budget and funding from the county, book selection here isn't as wide as say, the Santa Clara system. Further, limited county subsidies have resulted in the elimination of Sunday operations a few years ago. Technology has significantly enhanced the services here...I fondly remember having to dig through yards of microfiche for research papers, now everything is computerized. Further, they've installed at least 6 self-check out machines over the past few years, making lines of people a virtually extinct sight. The most convenient implementation has to be the online catalog and ability to place requests/holds for items from the comfort of home--even if that bestseller takes 4 months before reaching my position in the queue! The audiovisual and periodicals section is (somewhat) organized, with a variety of daily newspaper subscriptions (can't get enough of my NYT and WSJ). Fremont Main also houses several conference rooms for holding various community events, whether it be meetings for the Lions group, training sessions for election poll/voting booth agents, chess tournaments, or country Western concerts. Sometimes it's the local guy that surprises me, in this case, the Alameda County Library, Fremont Main branch. Last fall term I had a pretty historical research-heavy grad school class, and at times would need some foundational sources that I would seredipitously find in the online public catalog held at the Fremont branch. Wonderful to have this branch "in my backyard," so to speak, so I don't always have to travel through several cities in the bay to get to the other library systems I am affiliated with via work and school. Now if I could only get used to the regular two or so week charge-out periods--very different than the multi-month periods afforded in the academic/research context. read more

My one gripe is that the service is slow and the furniture and everything seems really old and used. I visited this library for the first time recently and no, it wasn't to borrow books or do research. I got word that they were offering free tax preparation so I had to take advantage. The free tax preparation was awesome. Everyone was super friendly. Thank you for offering this wonderful FREE service! They said it was the first time offered it and they are hoping that they'll get approved to do it again next year. I hope so too! I didn't get to check out the library much but it was HUGE! And crowded! Parking lot was quite filled and the parking spaces are kinda weird and narrow. read more

I've lived all around the US and internationally, and this library is pretty good. It's a bit dated, but they have a big selection of books, plenty of seating and parking, and even multinational newspapers and dvds. My kids love to come here and borrow from the large children's section, and I can even find a lot of good fiction and science and business books for myself. My parents even enjoyed the international newspapers and various magazines. Another nice thing is that you can actually reserve books from other libraries within the Alameda county system as well, in case you need something they don't have locally. read more

Very nice library. They have tons of books to select from, decent collection of DVD's, a spacious area for the children's reading section, an area to surf the net, multiple study rooms and conference rooms. I just wish the study rooms were a lot bigger though...you're lucky if you can fit two people in there...yeah, it's that small... It sucks that the bathrooms are only located on the first floor, so yes, if you're upstairs and you need to go, you have to go down to the first floor... I found it odd that every single study room was occupied when my friends and I went there to study on a Friday afternoon...I mean...isn't school in session, and aren't people supposed to be working?!? Just when we were about to make our way through Panera bread, one of the staff members opened up one of the smaller conference rooms towards the front entrance since there were no meetings held for that afternoon...winning! Study rooms are first-come first-serve, and the conference rooms are by reservation and are usually reserved for conferences, but the lady said we could always double check to see if the conference rooms are free... read more

I had been to the Fremont Main Library with my 3 year old daughter this afternoon. We were in the children's section and she was talking a bit loudly and this Indian security guard who was walking by came towards us and started wagging his finger at her as if he was saying "NO" and also pointing again and again with his finger asking her to sit down. She was not shouting nor behaving in an unruly manner. She was just a bit loud and we were already in the process of telling her to talk quietly when this man strode over. Despite me telling him twice that I will talk to her, he continued with his hand actions. I am a long time visitor of your library and I respect the rules of the place. In this scenario, when I, the parent, was very much present there, he should have asked me to communicate the same to my daughter and not have tried to wag his finger in a stern fashion and intimidate a 3 year old. This is extremely disappointing and I hope the library will make a note of this feedback/complaint of mine. When a parent is present and it is a very small child in question, the rules can be communicated through the parent. I hope the Library makes a note of this and educates their staff on how they talk/act with a very young child. read more

The biggest complaint is the horrible WiFi. There is no possible way it can get any worse. It would be an improvement if they shut wireless off all together, that way you won't waste your time trying in vain to establish a connection. Even at the "Internet Stations" upstairs, the signal strength is low and staying connected is a gamble. My laptop is less than a year old, and I can connect wirelessly elsewhere with no problems, so it's not user error. Castro Valley library, yes. Peet's Coffee, yes. Chabot College library, no problem. Even the "old" Hayward library has straight forward connectivity. Save yourself time and frustration, don't visit this library if you want to use your laptop/netbook to do research, check e-mail or anything like that. The library itself is fine, lots of books and such. But they've got to catch up and get the wireless internet access as good as the rest of the Alameda County libraries. It's my first time here, and I was greeted with a fire evacuation! Hunting down the front entrance took a while. The first thing that caught my eye was the futuristic blue-light sign. Then when I got through the doors, a wave of people flushed out. Did they just finish showing a good movie? Turns out that the fire alarms went off. Cool fire alarm sound - it's a single, slow-repeating "dong." Watching the herd of patrons exit was like seeing Wal-Mart on Black Friday. Thus, I got an idea of the type of people who use this facility - people hauling chunky textbooks, smart folks, learners, etc. That's a good thing, because you don't see as much of this public action in cities just to the north. So the alarms were still PMSing. And security pushed us into the parking lot. I tapped into the free Wi-fi in the car (using my AC Library ID, of course) while the paramedics took care of business. Signal strength was 10% at the corner of the library. Sometimes the pages don't load. Now you know. Then the doors were reopened, and I finally went inside to check the place out. Looks symmetrical and in order. But finding a book might take some effort - the media is a little too scattered, with little help from the signs. Chairs are a little uncomfortable if you have a big butt. On the cushioned wooden chairs, if you slide your gluteus maximus a little to left or right, you'll feel wood. It's my first time; perhaps a second visit may change my mind. read more

If I had a choice of spending my entire day inside somewhere, aside from the mall and the comfort of my own home, I would choose the library. I love books and I love being around all sort of books. The library to me is merely a big outlet of all designer purses runs in every color and sizes. From the look of this library, I was anxious to see how beautiful the interior would be since the exterior is almost gorgeous. I walked in.... & BAM*. I was immediately smacked with disappointment. The interior looks so plain, dull AND empty. Almost as if it has been unkept for almost a few years now. For a main library, it is nothing comparable to the San Leandro Main Library. The dirty stairs goes well with the dusty shelves. All the books here seems pretty old. I really wish that someone would take the time to remodel this place or even clean it up a little. read more

My daughters and I were so excited to sign up for library cards here. We were helped by a wonderful librarian. In fact, all of the librarians are lovely here. Yesterday we had to ask a question twice. The selection of chapter books for my girls are terrific. It reminds me of the days when I would happily and excitedly browse for new books to read. The three of us were blown away by the check out limit of 65 books! My little one was happy to be able to grab more books on dog breeds. While their manga selection is not as vast as San Francisco's, it was easy to request online for the kids. I'm more of an eBook reader now. The Kindle selection online is good. It's not as big as back in my hometown but I've been able to add a solid selection to my wish list. read more

The librabry has nice views. But ambient noise is louder than what you would normally expect in a library. Not really a good place to study for someone looking for that library silence. Needs more study desk for individual people. As sometimes sharing a table with 4 other people while you trying to study feels awkward. The individual couch chair are the best. Just tough when you're using a laptop. Hopefully the "loudness" was not a norm. As soon as you walk in to the library, it's chaotic from people outside. I've been coming to this library all my life. More so recently though. Not much has changed still is a reliable place to study and get work done. Pros: Wi-fi is easily accessible with a library card. Helpful employees/staff. Spacious, almost always is an open seat with access to a power plug for the laptop. Cons: The hours are lacking. If only they were open longer. Furniture is outdated. Some of the seats are uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time. Not too bad though. Overall, this place is great and hasn't let me down too much so far. I remember spending hours here as a student. They have lots of quiet areas to study and a good selection of books, films and music. I use my library card often and luckily, you can access your whole county from the internet to reserve the goods online and pick them up at your local branch. I haven't been here in awhile but it is two stories so you could easily find a quiet place to sit here. read more

This is a pretty nice library for the surrounding area. Even though it's the FREMONT Main Library, I find it to be my main library even though I live in Union City. In my early college years, when I was unemployed, I would come here after school just to find random books to read in my free time. The shelves are well stocked with old books to even current books, while some sections will be under construction (stocking on newer books! :D). They have a good "New" section.. this is where you can find more recent / popular books and they have a cute Children's section with a resource center (computers for kids' research). They always have movies, cds, & video cassettes you can check-out. They're not as up to date, but it's free. :) ..& while I've recently passed my teen years, I still go upstairs to peruse the Young Adult section & read up on some good books. :) I think it's good to note that this library looks a little more modern than other libraries in the area. It has lots of windows, is spacious & enough computers to search for books.. if not, it's usually not a long wait. read more

You can YELP Libraries? This one is overcrowded compared to school, smells funny compared to school, noisier compared to school, has less academic material compared to school, and it just not as cool as school (The A/C was better at school, yo). I did do some volunteer work here in my Senior Year though, and that wasn't bad at all. If you've got kids, bring them here, they have a nice kid's section. But please, please, PLEASE put books in either the right place when you're done with them and don't wish to borrow them, or just leave them on the ground. I'd rather have picked a book up than find one in the incorrect spot. read more

Two stars because it is a nice big library and the staff are great but dang this place might as well be a homeless shelter. They really abuse the place. Bathrooms need showers so they can just shower instead of trying to groom in the handicap stalls. It's gross having to use the same chairs and facilities they do. Good luck finding a study room. The same people use the same respective rooms, chairs and computers each day so they can either sleep or act weird. One guy was in there blasting music so loud. They kinda walk around like zombies and drag their carts in with bags and bags and bags of smelly stuff everywhere. I'm sorry to be so heartless but when the cops have to come in to deal with the crazies it gets super distracting and really impacts the enjoyment of the library. read more

Other libraries (cough cough, SL Main & Oakland Main) have MUCH to improve upon if they analyze this library! Hosting concerts alone invigorates this library enough already, but it's situated in a pretty bright-lit location next to busy streets. I used to live really close to this library and just love love love this place. The book/audiobook selection is huge, as it is connected with all of alameda county. It has foreign books and videos also. They hold lost of educational weekend events, the library is new and spacious with tons of couches by the windows, computers, private study areas, and best of all, all of this is FREE!! I love the online features, including courtesy emails I get telling me when my books are due, or when the book I wanted has become available. read more

Large Library. Lots of books. I don't come here to read or check out books. In fact, I haven't seen my library card in years. I don't even know how to use those self-check out machines. I come here to catch up on work that I've procrastinated for months on... The chairs at the desks are super uncomfortable. I've never been in the private rooms because I think you need a library card for them? Maybe the chairs are better in the private rooms? And maybe they have outlets in the private rooms? Nice place to study, although it can get pretty busy. I've always managed to find a decent seat nonetheless. Book selection is not very extensive, but I can usually find the books I need. Also, checkout system is convenient, with modern automated self checkout machines that provides a speedy checkout, pretty nice! But decor could do with some updating, there's just something off about the atmosphere of this place... All in all however, a pretty adequate library. It has now become a go to place when I am bored at home. The Library have very good collection of movie DVDs. I am yet to get books from there, hence I am not sure about the book collection. I love libraries...I have been going to libraries all my life, and this is a great one. The library I went to growing up in the North Bay Area will always have a special place in my heart, but this one iq quickly becoming very special to me as well. While the library system in Southern California, where I've been living the last few years up until recently, leaves something to be desired, I have found that libraries up north are very well taken care of and much larger. I like this library because it is big, cozy, full of a large selection of good books for all ages, and you can tell it's been around for a while, although it is still very modern. I visited this library many times in my vacation to get my work done. It is a great place if you want some quite. There are also basic books for most topics. That said it is almost impossible to go into depth into a subject matter. I had to look at other public libraries in the area to get books I needed. Also, if you come a hour an a half after opening time almost all the seats are taken, and definitely all the seats near the powerpoints. So I did find my self aimlessly walking around the library a couple of times. Also, it is a public library so if you have all your stuff on the table and need to go to the toilet or need to take a short break, you may beed to work out a way to keep your stuff safe. read more
