What a magnificent troll. Cryptid culture is amazing! The sheer size and scale of this thing is phenomenal. You'll have to get lucky and snag some street parking since it's somewhat of a busy spot during the day, with a lot of tourists lining up.
When you visit the freemont troll, be sure to walk through the turtle garden while you're at it! The walk from here to Gasworks Park is also very nice!
Parking is crazy here, it's only street parking in a residential area. We were able to take a picture and head our way. It's maybe a good rest stop if you hiking, biking, or walking but driving it's quick in and out.
Sightseeing in Seattle, Washington... Located under the Aurora Avenue bridge, The Fremont Troll, is one of many scattered throughout the city. However, this particular Troll had a purpose and was an entry in a contest... to improve the city in an artsy way! My friend, Jessica P., pointed out in her review that The Fremont Troll has a VW bug in its left hand! I didn't notice! Also - one of her photos shows a person on the shoulder of the Troll, demonstrating how gigantic it is! Well, it was kinda spooky for my plushies (Cony and Brown) and me. We were by ourselves, so we took a few photos and hopped away!
This giant troll statue under the bridge is such a fun and unique attraction! Totally worth a quick stop if you're in the area. The concept is quirky and creative, and the troll itself is super photogenic (and bigger than you'd expect!). The surrounding area has cute, troll-themed touches, adding to the charm. There's nearby street parking, and the bridge itself makes for some great photo ops -- both with the troll and the structure. It's one of those local landmarks that's just fun to experience in person. Whether you're into public art, random roadside attractions, or just want something cool for your IG feed, this spot delivers!
Came here and glad that there was parking on a Friday morning. It was nice to have stairs so that you could easily climb onto the troll statue. I just wish that there was a street lamp of some sort because scary if driving at nighttime and u see troll eye lol
This sculpture has been a prominent thing-to-do when at the Emerald City. It's quite concealed for such a colossal artwork located under a highway structure. Parking can be challenging when a lot of tourists converge. Be respectful of the residents in the area is pretty much basic etiquette when visiting this monstrosity. This concrete, steel and wire ogre has been haunting the Aurora (or officially the George Washington Memorial) bridge since 1990. It's image of a giant crushing a VW Beetle with its left hand has been countlessly immortalized through photos and accounts. One tip for a good photo is NOT to be standing on it's shoulders if you want facial recognition next to a behemoth. Also be wary of other people waiting in line for pics.
Built in 1990. The Troll is a piece of art that was transformed from a vacant space located underneath the Aurora Bridge also known as the George Washington Memorial bridge. It measures 18 feet high. The idea came from a Norwegian fairy tale (3 Billy Goats Gruff). Where the goats must cross the bridge with a fearsome troll. My family and I visited here in 2018. Parking can be a challenge.
Classic Seattle Landmark [Seattle CA] When we arrived at the bridge to get a photo op, once again, we were not alone. We saw kids (and even adults) climbing on its head and shoulders for photos LoL! it's a Seattle icon, just like the Space Needle, except the Fremont Troll is free to visit. The sculpture is made of concrete. Quite impressive! This friendly troll resides under the Aurora Bridge in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle. If you look closely its left hand is crushing a life-size Volkswagon Beetle. Fun fact: The car was a real VW Beetle that was entirely covered in concrete. Neat!! Parking can be a bit challenging in this area because it is located in a neighborhood. We found parking in front of a house and walked up to the bridge. So much fun and worth the effort to check out. We went after 6pm and there was only a handful of people around, so taking photos wasn't too bad. Street parking was easy and if you have time and are interested, the Vladimir Lenin statue is only a short 5 min walk from the Troll.
The Freemont Troll is simply a quick visit to see a HUGE troll underneath a bridge and to capture a cool memory. There is plenty of street parking in close proximity. I would recommend going in the evening as there wasn't many people there, making for the perfect pictures.
When looking up sites to see before our late night flight we came across this suggestion. So we decided to come check it out. There is plenty of street parking available. Since he is a popular attraction it can get a little difficult to find parking so just be patient you will find something. We were able to find parking about a block away so we were happy. Once you get there, there will obviously be tons of people taking pictures but just wait your turn and you will be able to get some cool pictures. Kids climb all over him so if you want a picture with no one on him you may need to wait a while. We were able to get some really cool pictures and honestly he is pretty cool to look at. Its really is some amazing art. Once you get your pictures there is a nice little garden called Troll Knoll Forest to explore right next to the Troll. In total we probably spent about 15 minutes here. Its pretty quick little trip but it was really nice to explore. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but if you have extra time to spare I would recommend coming here.

They were Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter, and Ross Whitehead. A lot of details went into the making of it. This is made of concrete, steel rebar, and wire. Most interesting is that the Troll is holding an actual Volkswagen Beetle. The street above it was later renamed Troll Avenue in honor of its most famous resident. A lot of appearances by the troll in media. This is in a scene of 10 Things I Hate About You, and is in the video game Life Is Strange. Cool thing to check out in a hipster area. It's been renovated around here a few times, and it always seems like there's construction and stuff going on. This is a popular spot for tourists to take selfies or whatever.
A fun experience, a bit off the beaten path in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. We ventured from downtown to check out the troll. Very easy access via a city bus route. After a short stroll down a well-designed dirt path, we found the giant troll. The troll is great for photos and has a sign that describes the history of the troll. My kids enjoyed climbing around the area, too. Facing the opposite direction from the troll is a very cool bridge that creates some awesome cathedral-like architecture. There is lots to do in Fremont, and even though the troll is kind of a one-and-done deal, it's worth checking out simply to explore the rest of the neighborhood and awesome surrounding businesses. A visit to the Fremont Troll under the Aurora Bridge is a fun and quirky Seattle stop. Sculpted in 1990 by four artists after a competition launched by the Fremont Arts Council to help combat the garbage and clutter that had been collecting under bridges, the troll has become one of the city's most iconic public art pieces. It's a great destination to bring out-of-town visitors--like me--to check out another troll! As a fan of the whimsical trolls created by Thomas Dambo, this was a must-see. Street parking is available nearby, making it an easy stop while exploring the neighborhood. I'd personally recommend not climbing on the troll due to safety concerns, although many people were doing so when we visited. Either way, it's a unique photo opportunity and a classic Seattle experience. read more

They see him trollin'... I feel there should be a trio of billy goat statues somewhere on the bridge above to complete the scene, but even without them, the Fremont Troll is a quirky little distraction worth a quick stop, for adventurous types always on the lookout for the unusual and unique. Wouldn't be out of place in Portland, Austin, or any other city that, like Seattle, embraces its eccentricities. He's big, he's dirty, he's climbable...and he's a must stop for fans of the TV miniseries "Once Upon A Time", the movie "10 Things I Hate About You", and the video game "Life is Strange", as he has appeared in all three. read more

Paid this troll under the bridge a visit and then visited the Trolls Knoll Forest and poured water on the Mossy Turtle and made a wish. We found street parking pretty easy. The troll is free to visit you just have to compete with lots of people to get a photo and wait your turn. We had fun just messin around and laughing. This is tucked between a residential area so be considerate. I would recommend you come here if you're looking to explore or kill time. read more
A literal troll under a bridge, that's what he is. A public sculpture of a troll in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle draws many visitors, and we were two of them on our last visit to the fair city. Our friends told us about him so we had to go. 18 feet and made of concrete, the Troll was "constructed in 1990 after winning a Fremont Arts Council competition for designs to improve the freeway underpass, which then was a dumping ground" (atlasobscura.com). If you're a fan of cool public art like I am, you can find him under the Aurora Bridge in Seattle. read more

Such a unique art sculpture in the city. If is impressive when you get up close. There is a bus stop right by the street. Standing by the troll, if you look at the underneath of the highways, the archways looks like a church! read more
I found it a bit out of the way from downtown but so happy we made the trip over to see it. We combine our trip over to Gas Works Park with a stop at the Fremont Troll. So much fun to see and check out the surrounding garden. In my opinion, well worth the a visit and absolutely something to see. The Fremont Troll is located in the Fremont Neighborhood of Seattle at North 36th Street, Troll Ave N, under the Aurora Avenue Bridge. It is breathtaking and something to see. All visitors were courteous of other taking pictures aside from a few over zealous kids with the occasional photo bombs but all in all very friendly environment. It is something to see with the captivating eyes and details but then realizing that is an actual old school Volkswagen Bug (Beatle) the troll is holding onto makes it even more spectacular. read more
Cool statue under the bridge, easy to find and there is plenty of street parking nearby. It's free of charge plus there is also a cool turtle statue nearby. It's usually never crowded. Would recommend stopping by this place if you are nearby, not a must do tho. read more
Street art at its finest I don't know anything about it, other than it exists and was a must see on the list of things to do. Parking is hard or procure, so be patient and understanding do not run over the pedestrians that will invariably cross your path. Take some time and explore the fairy forest too. read more

We love the Fremont troll! He was our inspiration into the troll world. We have now visited the troll bridge inPDX and several of Thomas Dambos trolls ( 3 are nearby on the islands) after you take some amazing pictures look him up and continue your troll adventures. read more
Parking is a little tricky but available on nearby streets. There is a line and people take turn to post and to take pictures. Kids were having a jolly time climbing and jumping. Walking distance to nearby brewery and the waterfront. read more
So looking at the picture, Fremont Troll changes once in awhile. The Troll eye used to have the hubcap but that is now gone. The car used to be painted red but now it is color less. The purpose of the troll is to stop people homeless from living under the bridge and to bring the community together and it worked very well. It is now an attraction site. This is pretty cool. Great for photo taking for sure. read more

Absolutely. This is a very safe neighborhood and it doesn't start getting dark until around 9 in the summer.
