Course was in great condition and much hillier than us flat landers expected! Jimi heard no less than 3 people reference "The Hills Have Eyes" which totally makes sense in a golf setting. Might've been those legends that were breaking in the Cottages. A nearby group hit a hole in one on the fourth hole! And by hole in one I mean they got it relatively close to the pin but not close enough to make birdie. But the celebration was fun to watch! Again might've been those Cottages legends. Later in the round, Jimi saw a gentleman "Happy Gilmore" swing a drive well over 200 yards. Actually ran into this legend post round at Hagen's and found out he's a 2 handicap. In that he has not one but two physical handicaps that make him suck at golf. The round was going great until some corporate big shot I presume took a work call on the 13th tee box causing a logjam. I overheard him scream "Tanjit we are not aligned!" Then he threw the phone down in anger and topped his tee shot. But even this couldn't take away from a memorable round at the Don Ross! 5 stars read more

The battle of excitement continues and satiated today!! Playing golf at the famous French lick and wanting to take this challenge on alone!! I geared up durning the predawn hours with a little warm up and driving range. And then properly equipped after a stop at the club house I assaulted the course. I was happy to find I was first on and all alone and quickly found my groove. The course was neat, well maintained and with the exception of the first hole all grounds team quickly stood aside as I played thru. Unfortunately at hole one the guy waited for me to show up then proceeded to place the flag and groom the hole. Had to wait for 10 min while he took his time. Otherwise it was peaceful and a great time. Hole by hole I conquered the excitement and adventure Using my tradecraft and long honed skill of well placed mulligans i finished with 3 over. (Probably more like 9 if I am honest). Mission accomplished. Thanks French lick!! read more

It's a beautiful peice of real estate that is poorly managed. it took five and a half hours to play. There was no marshal and the staff was ambivalent. It's not worth the time or cost to play. read more

the course was great we really enjoyed playing. and i will play this course again. your head pro was very rude she stated that we did not have reservations for the lower price of 90$ if we played after three. she also said tee time was 2:48 when i had email for 2:57 and we saw the sheet she was working off of and it plainly said 2:57 at 90. I told her that we had made that time to get twiilight prices, she did end up giving us the correct price and we had plenty of time, finished at 7:00pm lots of light left. no one in the club house when finished. course was in fantastic condition for middle of march. only reason this was not a five star rating was because of the lady who is the "manager" of the course. The two other managers at the Dye and Valley courses are outstanding professionals who care about customer service! However, at the Ross Course I was meant with tense stares and did not feel welcomed. She also told our group to hurry up when we finished the front nine in less than 2 hours. Not even close to being worth $100. Staff was rude. Fairways were horrible. No consistency at all. Different grasses, not mowed. At times the fairway and rough had no real delineation line. We had a greens keeper on the green while we tried to put using a leaf blower and would not stop. Guy may have been deaf (for real and I'm not trying to joke about it) but no etiquette was extended to us as guests. Completely ignored us. Felt like someone was punking us on a tv show. I will not go back. Better courses in Southern Indiana to spend your money playing, which many of those have a practice facility unlike this course that had a batting cage to hit a few balls into before your round. Very disappointed. How this course is rated so high is a mystery. COVID restrictions had nothing to do with our experience. Too me this looked like a management issue that needs corrected before it's too late. read more

The Donald Ross course is average at best and I have no confidence in it being ranked as high as it is. The course is simply not worth the price they charge. Groups were backed up 3 and 4 deep and after a call to the Ranger, they did nothing. They let multiple groups of kids walk the course on a Saturday morning which lacks any sort of logical sense. Fairways are decent, but all greens are elevated and pin locations are basically putt putt quality. Tee boxes are extremely beat up and the 'practice range' is a batting cage net. We attempted to talk to the Director of Golf and he was downright rude. Paying $1,000 for 8 people to golf demands a certain level of service and experience which is extremely lacking here. We will not be back and you should look elsewhere, too. read more

NOTE:I tried to post this review on GOLFADVISOR (owned by GOLFPASS) but they would not let me. Evidently they only want people to post positive reviews of courses! First, about the course. It is very hilly, lots of elevation changes. Most greens are elevated, some by a lot. If you are a high handicapper or are not striking the ball good the heather can be brutal. You will be lucky to find your ball most times. Lots of bunkers but most of them have excellent sand and appear to be well managed. THE GOOD: Everyone was very friendly. Interesting course layout, very different than most Indiana courses.Very nice apparel selection in pro shop. Brand new carts. GPS on carts. THE NOT SO GOOD: No driving range or practice green. Most fairways were in bad shape, lots of bare spots and tons of weed, no way to play the ball "down". The course website stated that the pre-season greens fee was $75 thru the end of April, but when we got there we were told it was only thru April 15. We would have been really pissed if we had booked this course based on the website and then found out that the price was $125 instead of $75.f I would hope that people booking after April 15 are informed of this price change when they call. IMO this course is not worth what they are charging, especially for an Indiana course. If it was not associated with French Lick Resort and did not have Donald Ross' name on it, there is no way they could get what they charge. We paid $75 and in the condition it was in that was more than we felt it was worth. Too many other great in southern Indiana for much less. I play a lot of golf all over the country and I think I have posted a fair assessment of this venue. read more

Gorgeous challenging course. Staff was very friendly and really wanted to make sure we had a nice time. The greens were fast and undulating and really made putting an adventure but when you go to a course of this caliber you expect a higher degree of difficulty. Loved every minute of both rounds we played. It's not meant to be easy. They have made this course harder than what I remembered the hill course was a few years back. You will loose a few balls in the tall grass, no doubt about it. Pins were placed in very challenging areas of the greens. Will play again whenever I'm there! read more

weather was great with a little wind in early Sep. Nice course but the tall fescue just ruined the course. Miss a fairway, lose a ball. Greens are almost putt putt amusing but still fun. Staff is great. Sultans Run a short drive away is much better value and not as overdone. read more
