He is extremely knowledgeable and and gave us a clear picture of the history, ecosystem and challenges faced by the Chesapeake Bay and oyster industry. His perspective as a working waterman added a perspective that tours conducted by those not immersed in the issues can lack. The sail was 2 hours long and included a dredging demonstration. This is someone who clearly loves what they do and it shows. The price was reasonable and despite being a native Marylander who tries to keep up with Bay concerns, I learned a great deal. Every call I had with the owner was bizarre and confusing. He asked for a $545 deposit, which after my 1st experience I was happy to give. The weeks leading up to the excursion I kept getting the most confusing calls, to the point where I gave him an out to just cancel the trip as it seemed he didnt want to do it. He assured me he wanted to, but then asked for more of a deposit. I refused, citing that he has zero up front costs, so a deposit is hardly necessary in the first place. Then comes the day we are to depart, and I get a ton of texts giving me not 1, not 2, but EIGHT (8) REASONS as to why he had to cancel on me. I tried calling him he refused to answer the phone, he would only text me. I demanded a refund, he first said "Done" but 3 days have gone by and still no refund. He then responded saying he would give me an "upgraded gift certificate" to do another trip with him instead of a refund. I was confused, bc he said that he sent the money back! Either way I explained that in no way shape or form do I want a gift certificate as I would never spend another penny with him. DO NOT USE THEM!!

Paul knows his stuff and is so willing to share that knowledge. Tip: Each person should pack their own ziplock bags & drinks in a small backpack and carry it with them. We were not all together most of the time so having 1 backpack for family wasn't convenient. Also, pretty obvious, but a backpack is much more sensible than a bag with handles when you are searching for shark teeth and fossils and need to use your hands. It was a great day & it really sparked some curiosity about not only the shark teeth but also the geology and oceanography!

Dolphins, osprey with fish in their talons, lighthouses, a drawbridge, and a chill approach to life. He navigated us Tilghman island... let us rest, eat and swim... then returned us safely to our lives in DC. The 38 ft sloop is awesome, well cared for and handled great in some chop. I will absolutely sail with captain Paul again. I highly recommend sailing with him.
