Whatever it was doesn't really matter, US Brand is a converted industrial garage stuffed to the rafters with furniture. Surprisingly the staff is very low key and allows you to catch your breath and get the lay of the land without descending like vultures on a wounded mongoose (very much appreciated BTW.) Unfortunately, their furniture inventory is not our style. Lots of laminate, white leather, sprawling Diamonique chandeliers and copious use of gold inlays. It felt more like an estate sale for the last Gabor sister or perhaps, Imelda Marcos. Obviously, this casino maximus style must sell but today was not the day to channel my inner Wayne Newton. Four stars for the very relaxed sales environment. Given the furniture jackals elsewhere, that's no small compliment.

The employee (owner?) who was in explained that they offer a wide selection of Jellycats, many of which are considered rare or very challenging to get ahold of. In addition to the plush toys, they also had a large variety of perfumes and perfume testers to sniff. I was really excited to see one of my favorite perfumes, Juliette Has a Gun, available in such variety. If my suitcase wasn't already jam packed heading out here, I would have totally purchased a bottle as a gift to myself. This was an adorable shop and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

They won't let you look around the shop without following you around and asking you not to touch anything. Oh also they have a million perfume testers which they get mad if you smell them. Literally you cannot smell open samples of perfumes or they scream at you not to touch them. The overall attitude was very hostile and unwelcoming, which was surprising in a neighborhood where most small business owners are warm and appreciative of customers. I left feeling really disappointed because I had intended to give them my business. After mentioning the experience to a few other locals, I learned that others had similar interactions there. All the items, both those that are antique or vintage, and those that are recent, are aesthetically consistent. I guess the best way to describe this shop's aesthetic is "primitive" or "country." Everything falls into that primitive/country category, and it all works together. There are old metal tins from various products; baskets, spatterware and plain enameled bowls, spoons, plates, and coffeepots; character food jars that were made to become piggy banks after they were emptied; baskets, stoneware jugs, some china, a coffee grinder. It's a little hard to find HappiNest from Route 22, because the building is set back from the road. They're on the Westbound side of Route 22, just east of the traffic light at Route 523 / Main St. HappiNest is also accessible from Old Route 28, just before it ends at Route 22. They're only open Thursdays through Saturdays, from noon to 6:00 p.m. But it's worth a visit during their open hours if primitive / country is your thing, or even just to see a shop that is well-put-together.
