I love Poke…read moreand unfortunately, Winnipeg is seriously lacking in Poke options (I believe Chosabi is the only other place that offers Poke). Hawaii Kai is located inside Cityplace mall. It is a take-out spot, catering to the city's downtown office workers. Their menu includes a variety of 'healthy' Hawaiian and Asian cuisine, including salads, smoothies and bubble-tea. I ordered the salmon poke bowl. It came out to about $15. The portion was relatively small for what I expected. The salmon had a strange type of mayo spice on it. The crunch flakes used were reminiscent of cheap Frito corn chips. Overall I was disappointed. I was looking forward to Hawaii Kai as an alternative to Freshii (also located in the mall), but with it being much more expensive for sub-par quality, I think I will be pass on this in the future and head back to Freshii for their rice bowls (I know this is not an apples to apples comparison). This scores 3 out of 5 mainly because of its location and it being the second spot in Winnipeg to offer Poke.

I am still a relatively new Booster Juice customer. My first visit was last November. I signed up…read morefor berry points back then. When it's your birthday, you get a free classic smoothie. Yay! I was at St. Vital, in the food court. I was about to leave the mall after spending seven hours here. This Booster Juice was right in front of me. I decided to redeem my offer through the app. It wasn't busy when I approached the store at nearly 5 pm. I got a young man who tried helping me out. I showed him the offer on my phone without redeeming it. He immediately went to grab another colleague. He didn't say anything. He just walked over to her. This woman came over and said in an extremely condescending tone that I needed to present the evidence of my free birthday offer. It rubbed me the wrong way. I said that I let the young man know that I had the offer and he walked over to you. What is up with the attitude? I wasn't asked to show it because he didn't know what to do. I wasn't about to redeem it because it is time-sensitive once you redeem the offer. How about saying that you can help me redeem my birthday reward by showing the QR code and then selecting a smoothie from the classic menu? I redeemed my offer and showed her my QR code. The twenty-minute countdown to redeem it had started. She scanned it. I ordered a Hawaiian sunset smoothie. Staff went ahead and made it. I waited a bit before it was ready. I thanked the person who gave it to me along with a straw. I headed out the mall and to my vehicle. Frankly, I was so annoyed by this woman's tone that I actually don't remember if it was a woman or man who handed me my drink. I want to say that it was a male staffer, but I wouldn't bet my bank account on it. It was not a warm welcome at all. My smoothie was yummy, though. It had passion fruit and guava juices, mango sorbet, raspberries, bananas, vanilla frozen yogurt, and probiotic yogurt. I do wish that it offered dairy-free yogurt. I am borderline lactose-intolerant. Taking a lactase enzyme allowed me to enjoy this free smoothie. I'm not sure when I'll be back here again. I hope that this woman works on her customer service skills when I do return. The young man was new and needed help, which was understandable. She was obviously more seasoned and should know better than to treat customers with a condescending tone and not getting full context from the young man. (315)

While walking around St. Vital Centre yesterday, I came across this Cha House and felt like getting a drink. This bubble tea place is around the corner from entrance 5. I was the only customer there at around 4:30 pm. I am a fruit tea person. I went with the butterfly pea tea. It's consists of lemonade, butterfly pea, and pearls. The place also loads whatever fruit is available, so I got raspberries. It comes in a single size. It looked like a large to me. My drink was $5.75 before taxes. If you're looking for cheap, yummy bubble tea, you want to come here. I got less ice. I wanted to try this tea at its normal sugar level. It took no time for my drink to be ready. I thanked the woman who made it, shook my tea up without even thinking about taking a photo (it was pretty with three different layered colours happening), speared it with my straw, and went to town sipping it. I actually sat down to enjoy it. There were a few comfy seats steps away for me to lounge and enjoy it. I loved it. I went with less ice. Yet, it was still an icy cold drink. This tea was sweeter than I usually take it, but it was still fine. The tapioca was chewy and enjoyable. I still feel like it was a steal to have tapioca included in the drink. The lemonade wasn't overly tart. You could still taste it. I enjoyed the raspberries in this drink. They complimented the lemonade nicely and provided a nice textural contrast. I'd get this drink again. The watermelon slushie that I had a year ago was excellent, too. This place uses fresh fruit, which is a plus. I like Cha House. There's one more location at Kildonan Place that I need to visit to complete my trifecta. The teas are yummy and refreshing. Winnipeg is lucky to have this franchise. (229)
