Nice people, excellent service, fresh food, and then great personalities and conversation. Staff make my wife and I feel less like tourists than we deserve and we always return. Al is one of our favorite people from among the local staff who have only smiles and their best efforts to help you with whatever you need. When in need of grocery items while staying at a cottage on the Cabot trail. This is the only choice I have seen on my entire trip. It is like a mini me of sobeys. They have a limited selection of the most basic items like eggs, bread, meat, some vegetables etc... Overall given it is the only choice I have seen it should get 5 stars but I am rating it against my hometown choices as that is what I know as a grocery store experience. Oh yeah and if you are attending a wedding nearby by chance get out of the suit and Burberry tie before heading over. I swear to God the local folks in the store thought they saw the men in black bust a move when I walked my way through the store or perhaps it was a James bond they saw in me???? in my full on suit. How embarrassing it was hope they did not think I was last nights loto winner??? In fact cape Breton did clean up on the Atlantic 649 draw that night. 2nd grand prize of 64,000 and the guaranteed prize of 25,649. My husband and I have travelled to Ingonish every summer for the past 14 years and always make a trip or two to the grocery store during our stay. This past weekend was no exception....we were in the store both Friday and Saturday and I have to say I was disgusted! The staff were ignorant and rude and gave the impression they were being bothered to wait on customers. Saturday's visit was enough for me to NEVER shop at that store again! I will go without before spending another dime in Freshmart! When we got to the checkout with our grocery items, we found one cashier SITTING on the counter while involved in conversation with three co-workers. We put our items on the belt but she didn't even turn around. We went to the second check out, only to be greeted by a young lady who obviously wanted to be anywhere else but behind that counter. She "grunted" at us, gave us our change and turned her back to re-engage in conversation with her co-workers. I am disgusted to think that the tourists in Ingonish this past weekend was incredible and I am embarrassed by the service they would have received at Freshmart!! read more
