    Poutine
    Vy T.

Food was good; enjoyed the poutine which was crispy with gravy on top. The seafood linguine was good and came with mussels, so I probably didn't need to order the mussels appetizer. All of the portions are generous so you definitely will not leave hungry. Service is responsive. The inside is both a bakery and a restaurant; pretty casual.

Cute restaurant off the Cabot Trail in Ingonish. The pasta was delicious. The coffee was much needed. (Not pictured was a gluten free brownie for dessert.) Our server was super sweet.

August 2025 Main Street drink menu, Ingonish

We stayed in the Ingonish area for three nights, and we ate at Main Street twice if that tells you anything. Main Street couldn't be more centrally located amongst all of the different settlements. After all, it is on the map in Ingonish Centre. Just a word of advice here if you go, be careful pulling in and out of the parking. The restaurant is positioned right on Highway 30 immediately after a pretty sharp curve if you're driving north to south. All the parking is right in front of the building on gravel & dirt, so when you pull back out you are pulling out into potentially fast moving traffic going southbound. Be careful! This restaurant has changed ownership in the last year or two, so the interior and exterior has been completely renovated. If the weather is nice I highly recommend sitting on the outdoor deck. It is huge, and they have umbrellas if it is too hot and the sun is beating down. We sat outside on our first visit, and inside on our second. Every one of the wait staff we had was great, but our waitress on the second night went far above and beyond for us. On the first trip, we ventured into the mussels. Neither of us were much of a mussels fan before this trip, and I think the batch we got on our first visit here just got us obsessed with them. Main Street actually sources theirs from somewhere up around Cape North, so they are about as fresh as you can get. The white wine sauce was lightly flavored with garlic, along with julienned carrot and leek. The mussels were medium size, and that sauce was just spectacular. You'll need that nicely toasted garlic bread to soak up the remains in the bottom of the dish! My wife got the Cape Breton Seafood Chowder, and it was really good. That chowder was loaded with big chunks of fresh local seafood. We also split one of the Caesar salads, which we both thought was very fresh with a great dressing. We returned two nights later, which happened to be my birthday. Boy, was a ready for the mussels again! We arrived fairly late that night, and unfortunately they had run out. Second option for us was the swordfish special, which sounded fantastic. Our poor waitress returned back to us to let us know another table just ordered the last one of those, too! So, we got the lobster roll that night and it was fantastic. Our waitress felt so bad, being my birthday and all, she just asked us to pick any dessert for free. Of course yet again, I picked a key lime cheesecake which was (wait for it) sold out! We laughed it off, and picked a fantastic turtle chocolate cheesecake which really surprised both of us. I would highly recommend this Ingonish location of Main Street, and make sure you visit the bakery case up front. They really have a pretty talented chef in there making some fantastic sweets and baked goods. Take some with you on your way back to your lodging or for the rest of your road trip.

    Seafood chowder before!

While staying in Cape Breton for a couple nights we ventured here for dinner. Very friendly staff! Great service. The hubs and I both had a cup of the seafood chowder which had not only shrimp, clams and fish but lobster too along with potatoes and carrots. For our main we shared a traditional fish and chips. Delicious plentiful portion. We opted out of dessert until we were walking out and saw homemade key lime pie in the dessert case. True confession....we took some to go. It was scrumptious. Plenty of parking. Outdoor dining as well. I really wanted the fish tacos but they said they had to tone down the menu. Only remembered to take a photo of the chowder. Sorry guys.

Absolutely delicious! Lobster eggs benedict, fresh berries, an americano for breakfast and a fresh blueberry pie to go. Yum! They have gluten free brownies in addition to the many other delicious looking baked goods. Don't hesitate to stop here!

looking at other reviews about the service is slightly accurate. it took awhile to get ahold of them and it looks like they are severely understaffed. however the food is phenomenal! the portions are pretty big too, i loved the fries and burger.

    Seafood linguine

Great great great! Speechless restaurant! The service is great and the food is amazing! I waited till 11 when they start serving lunch, it's definitely worth the wait, I had fish tacos because fish burger is not available, the fish is sooooooo good, crispy and thin coat on the outside and the inside just melt in your mouth! My girl had this seafood linguine, so many kinds of fresh seafood on top and so much of them! Also, chocolate milkshake is great! BTW, if the owner or the chef is looking at my review, your fish is soooooo good, more variance of it would be great like the fish burger or just some traditional fish'n chips.

Sugar Witch is a small bakery / custom cake shop in Ingonish that, against all double double toil and trouble odds, has an amazing (albeit limited) array of sweets that will leave you bewitched. We stopped by on our way to the beach and got: - Cupcakes: SW puts the CAKE in cupcake. These were like mini chocolate cakes in their heft, moist-ness, and flavour. The different icing/toppings make you want to try the next one andbthe next one and the next one... - Ginger Date Cake: Apparently a twist to a local delicacy. Strong ginger flavour, hints of date, very generous use of molasses as there was a sticky moistness to it. I loved it. The owner (and chief baker) is super nice and very passionate about her craft. Sugar Witch is open all year, so whatever the season is, try to stop by!

We brought it to the cottage and warmed it for 10 seconds in the microwave after dinner. Call her directly to check for hours and baked goods offered for the day. Limited batches and accepts custom orders. Love supporting local small businesses like this. Each item prepared with care by the owner No sitdown area - just for pick up and can only take 2 people in front of the counter so you could be waiting outside if there are other people ordering). There is space for parking in front. (Fun fact: this tiny bakeshop was built in front of the property of chef's grandma)

We chose this restaurant based on the location of our hotel, keep in mind there aren't many options around. I think this was also the reason this restaurant was busy! The grilled scallop burger was the best dish of the night! The seafood platter was mediocre, nothing special. It had calamari, fries, shrimp, oysters, and haddock... maybe more? I can't recall. The clam chowder was not it. It wasn't creamy like the clam chowder I'm used to and was the worst dish of the night. The biscuit was okay, not buttery enough in my opinion. The lobster roll was mediocre. It was my first time trying lobster rolls and my expectations were way higher as many people love them! I'm not sure if it's because there wasn't enough sauce or the sauce just wasn't that tasty. We also subbed the fries for a caesar salad and were charged the price of an extra caesar salad ($9) rather than just an added substitute price. The milkshakes were great! The vanilla milkshake tasted like french vanilla ice cream and the strawberry milkshake was also really good. A bit small for the price. Overall, wouldn't visit again. The view is great though!
