I've spent roughly $1500 at Freys including a $900 Beretta so I asked about getting my 100 year old Winchester model 12 cleaned, and serviced for function and safety. They said "absolutely bring it on in." It took them a few weeks I guess because they never called so finally I went in to check. They were in a hurry to leave town but eventually they found my gun and charged me $200. I took it out and fired 1 shot, jammed shell. I tried to eject it but then the pump action froze up. After dismantle I noticed nothing was cleaned, nothing! They may have run a patch down the barrel but that was it. The gun worked fine before they had it but now...? Had to send it out of State to find out it was far from safe and could've fired with safety engaged. If you value your gun? I wouldn't bring it to Freys. read more

Gun store located in a normal looking house in a normal looking neighborhood. You walk in the door on the right into a room with used and new guns on racks and tons of reloading supplies. The back room has safes, accessories, scopes, and other goodies. It's nice to have some options in this town, and the staff was very friendly to me and answered all my questions. I had done a few transfers with this establishment and had no issues, however after setting up a transfer, Frey jacked up the fee that was charged without prior coordination, and at that point there is not much you can do other than have the item sent back to the seller. I outshot the guys last weekend :-) This year I needed something different for my clients Christmas gifts for my Salon; had Katie order pepper sprays that look like a lipstick tube....I do think they will be surprised when they open them. The business is out of the side of the owner's home and he has a nice selection of guns, ammo, and accessories. I bought some .40 SW ammo. The owner is very friendly and answered all of my questions. They even have a range that you could use for a fee. I will try the range once I get settled in. read more

I've been living here since 2000, used the "other" gun shop in town for the first 8 years, spending literally thousands of dollars there, and finally had enough of their lackadaisical attitude, poor treatment, and seeming disregard for their customers. What a breath of fresh air at Frey's! Mom-and-Pop store, run by a husband and wife team, both hunters and firearm aficionados. Ron and Katey have both ordered multiple guns for me, and they've always come in when I was promised. No run-arounds, no stories, no explanations, just good service and true to their word. My wife is a shooter and appreciates having a woman to talk to for advice on firearms, without feeling any (unintentional!) pressure from her hubby. Guys--let a female hunter and shooter assist your woman getting into firearms--it makes a huge difference! Good choice of products for the female shooter, including CCW options. Decent selection of firearms (best in town) for such an isolated community, and prices are commensurate with big box stores. Used to have a really good selection of AR15 stuff, and did a lot of work with them, but recent law changes in California have steered them away from these weapons, and their parts/stock in AR15 stuff is much reduced/non-existent. They've got a good Duracoat guy on staff, with some pretty work on display. Typical example of this place: I bought night sights here for a Glock 23 recently, and they installed them for free, on the spot. They've got a good thing here. No longer working out of their older residential location, their new retail location has lots of parking and is easy to find, but there is a wicked bump getting into their parking lot--drive in at an angle! I've spent over $5K there in the last year, not including wife's purchases, so they're doing something right. This place is good to go. read more

After a bad experience at Gun4us I was hesitant to check out another gun shop here in Ridgecrest but I was very surprised with how friendly and helpful everyone was here. i would just like to tell all of you that are looking fo a great place to do your gun business that frey's is as good as you can get. they are polite ,honest and as helpful as you will ever find. i have done business with thm on and off over 15 years or so . they have the best inventory and service. the people that use frey's seem seem to be more like club members than customers. just thought that i would pass this along. they deserve the cudo'looking at fragg b ,sreview--- all i can say is frey's was at their residential location for a lot of years. i guess it didn't bother them neighbors much. maybe they even scared off some that might have caused problems in the neighborhood. thanks chuck peterson read more
