    Turned my tires.

The holding lanes are on a bit of an incline. You don't want to be that person whose vehicle has shotty brakes that steps away for a moment to get a cup of coffee and finds the brakes gave out while you stepped away... So please use your parking/emergency brake and be mindful of which way you turn your tires if in an outer lane near a curb or rock. The service can be a bit abrupt, but they deal with a high load of traffic especially in the summer so it is just them being direct and trying to get you on your way as quickly as possible. The view of the water and the town from the holding lanes is quite lovely and depending on the time of day there is lots to watch.

The Friday Harbor ferry terminal, located in the heart of this cute little town, is pretty much the only way on and off the island if you have a vehicle. So that means it's usually pretty busy, and there are long lines especially on weekends. Luckily you can make reservations for your chosen ferry run, making the waits a little shorter than the all day affairs they were when I was younger. The terminal is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. There's a giant waiting lot for cars, and a very small building that boasts no services other than a couple of vending machines. Luckily, there are several restaurants and coffee shops within easy walking distance. One good thing to know, if you've never been to Friday Harbor before, is that you only have to pay the ferry fare going westbound. All eastbound fares are included in your original price. So don't look for a ticket booth or anything like that. You are good to go if you're heading back to Anacortes!

We have always enjoyed the feery service for 60 yrs as children and adults, personal has always comunicated correctly, put you in correct lane. This time, the emoyee put us in a lane that was not really even marked, wrote an O gor Orcas on Windshield, we waited for approval to load , noone came, we had to wait another 4 hrs. Because of low volume, and no interest of worker. They make it clear, wait for worker to give signL of worker to load!! Workers freak out if you move with out them saying you can! Barely heard shaw and Anacortes! They freaking did not follow through!

Took this ferry as a foot passenger. Driving a passenger vehicle onto the island, I recommend making reservations. Once you exit the terminal much of the tourist activities are walking distance.(boutique shops, eateries, coffee houses, etc) Lots of amazing photos ops here, love the scenery. Not a lot of tourist this time of year, so no crowds. No need to pay on the way back to Anacortes.

This experience was better than my wildest imagination! I booked weeks prior for Thursday May 28th…read more I got there early to check in. The location is on the dock on front street above an ice cream place. The staff is super friendly and appreciated my early arrival. We got a short talk about safety and what to expect. Then we donned suits to keep us warm and dry. Tip: use the hat they offer and gloves. The hood doesn't keep the wind from making your ears cold without holding it tight around your face. I ran to the dock and met Captain BJ who would be working with Allison our guide. The was helpful and allowed me to sit up front. I was more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. The boat starts and we leave the harbor. Then we started going really fast which was so awesome! We saw a sea otter playing in the tide current. There were harbor porpoises. But the steller sea lions were enormous and stunning. They were subbing themselves on the rocks. The piece de resistance was the orcas! A pod of orcas was hunting a lone steller sea lion. We must have sat there over an hour. Other boats gathered and we all watched. I'm not shy in admitting I was deeply moved. I cried a bit at how awesome this experience was and seeing beautiful orcas was on my bucket list. My favorite part was that this is a small business. They are locally owned and have a focus on conservation. The boat pulls water from the ocean to propel itself forward which means no gas, propeller or noisy engine that stresses out whales. We stopped to remove a mylar balloon from the water. I love when people practice what they preach! We continued and saw more eagles, rhiocerous ocelot, and more harbor porpoises. By the end my heart was full. Captain BJ said this was his second favorite trip of the year this far. I beamed all the way back to the office to return our gear. Tip: go to the whale museum when it opens at 11am then come here to see real whales. Do this whale watching tour! Best bang for your buck you will ever get!!

We had amazing opportunities to view a variety of wildlife ranging from bald eagles to otters to several species of whales. The team's knowledge about the whales was truly remarkable- including knowing individual whales' histories. The scenery was spectacular and the gear provided made a chilly spring day extremely comfortable. We can't thank Western Prince Whale Watching enough for this experience that we will look back on and treasure!

The captain even let kiddo steer the ship for a while. Booking can be difficult if you're not standing in the office. Online booking isn't an option. When you click the link it merely has the customer fill out an information card and they're supposed to call you. If you cal the number listed you'll always be routed to an answering service. Basically customers just have to leave a message and hope someone calls you back. Even through all that, the experience was totally worth it.

Right from the humorous introduction to sailing and water protocols to the camaraderie and warmth of the crew. First hand Chris is a very interesting person and knows how to make visitors feel involved in the sailing by drawing volunteers for stowing ropes and hoisting the mast. He is helped very ably by his crew Rosy! Captain Gunner keeps a leisurely pace allowing even the most hesitant of sea-farers to relax and take in the sights. Sunset over Pugetsound onboard Spike Africa will be one of my most-cherished moments from the San Juan Islands trip. The schooner allows for your own beverages on board and the open sea makes for an excellent place to have a sip of wine. The sail is pleasant with the added element of other like-minded strangers joining you on a ride, added to that, the very reasonable price makes for an offer hard to refuse! An evening well spent..
