I had to order a taxi from Safeway to my home the other day and Mert'z taxi gave me a ride. I am almost blind, so can't see well, and wasn't even fully into the van yet and the driver took off going through an intersection with the side door wide open, my seatbelt off and me hanging on for my life. It was like a scene from a Mel Brooks movie. Before I lost most of my sight I know Mert'z taxi well from the Anacortes Ferry Docks where I was working, but please please please train your drivers to be aware and safe. Been using Mert to get to and from the grocery store for over a year now and they've never done us wrong. The drivers are polite and kind. I'm seeing negative reviews here because of factors they have no control over. They often drive people to the casino just out side of town and that's about 20 minutes total. So keep in mind it might be a while, but they also have gone out of their way to get people to ferries on time and the like as well. read more

We don't use taxis very often, and we've been burned by cabs promising to pick us up and then be no shows, ugh! The few times we've needed a cab while cruising the San Juans we've called Merts while in Anacortes. They have always been on time, they are very friendly and are very reasonable. If while in Anacortes you need a ride, Merts won't let you down. read more

So thanks a ton, Mert! NOT! Our friends live in Anacortes but were leaving on a trip so couldn't take us from the ferry on Anacortes to Bellingham. We called and set up days earlier to have Mert taxi pick us up at the ferry and take us. He told me to text him on his own line when we were leaving Friday harbor so they could tell when we would arrive. Two text messages and two phone calls. No answer. Called the main number, no answer. There was another man who was also waiting for them who needed to get to the hospital for an appt and had trouble walking. He was there waiting as well. We should have taken him with us when we finally called Lyft for a ride. Should have done that in the first place. It's not true that those services aren't available over there like we were told. Use them instead if you want reliability instead of Mert Taxi. Save yourself frustration! We will be back in town but will never contact them again and I'm sure our friends in Anacortes will spread info on their terrible service as well. You reap what you sow! read more

I would give Mert's Taxi 10 Stars if I could! Back in February, during all the Blizzards this year, I found myself stranded in Anacortes Washington with a freshly Broken Leg, no one to help me, and no way of getting to Bellingham Airport so that I could pray a flight would get out and me home to my mom and a hospital - That is until Mert! Mert was willing to meet me on very short notice when my friend that I was visiting - the trip where I had just broken my leg, decided last minute they were unwilling to drive me to the airport in the snow. I called around desperate but no one else was willing to drive me either. I called my mom in tears unsure of what to do. She got online and found Mert's Taxi. Mert's taxi is not some corporate entity that has no heart to care about your circumstances. It's a local guy and his brother that not only cared about what I was going through, but also knew the area well and were totally comfortable driving in the snowy weather. It wasn't ideal conditions, but he assured us he could get me there safe. And he did! He knew where I was going to be and knew an easy meeting place. He helped me with my things and into the vehicle. He even ran into the airport and got me a wheelchair when we arrived. If it wasn't for Mert's I feel like I never would have gotten home! He was a Life Saver! Like most businesses today, they are short of drivers so some times you just need to be patient about pick up times, as they are doing the best they can. I've lived here in Anacortes for 15 years and use them often for rides. So, I am speaking from long time experience not a one weekend off. read more

Mert's is awesome. We booked a 5:30am ride to the ferry from downtown Anacortes and were picked up right on time. The driver was his twin brother and he was very friendly. Our friends used them a few times as well. They have flat rates and minivans with plenty of luggage space. They have very few drivers though, so wait time is a bit during rush hour. read more

Mert's promotes itself as offering long-distance rides with flat rates but their fares seem inconsistent. We called for a quote to a suburb north of Seattle, but when we later called back to actually book the ride, they quoted us nearly twice as much. When we pressed them about why the new quote was so much higher, they said the first quote was actually to a ferry to that town, so we rearranged plans to take the ferry and save around $60. But it turns out they were talking about a different ferry that doesn't even go to that town. When pressed again, they said the person who originally offered the quote must not have known the town where we were going. Shouldn't the person who's giving quotes look at a map if they aren't sure where someone is going rather than guessing? Also, since some fares run north of $100, you'd think they'd accept credit cards. Nope. Cash only but they will drive you to an ATM. read more

All I have to say is flat rates to and from destinations. With this in mind please tip your driver for their time. I say this because a flat rate does not account for actual time only distance. If it takes an hour or twenty minutes you are charged the same. Most cab companies charge for waiting in traffic. Merts does not. They are at cheaper than uber! read more

I am a resident of Anacortes. I personally observed a Mert's driver using his cell phone, in hand, while driving his taxi. I was alongside the car and driver, and asked him to stop using his phone while driving, as it is unsafe, and against the law. He stated that he had a "permit" to use his phone while driving, as he was "deaf". !!! He also became very angry, and unprofessional. Please beware of this dangerous driver, and his willingness to put you, and others at risk. I did contact the Anacortes police. They also contacted Mert's. They indicated there was no such permit. Mert ROCKS! My nephew was driving down from Bellingham to ride with us on the ferry to Sidney and the ferry lot was full. I arranged for a taxi ride from a lot by Cap Sante Marina to the ferry. Mert couldn't have been kinder as I updated him on my nephew's progress. He ended up waiting about 15 minutes and had to break the sound barrier to get him to the ferry terminal on time, but he did it.
