    Sunset on San Juan Island
    Natalie W.

Craig was so wonderful during our day long pass to Roche Harbor and back to Friday Harbor. We then had dinner and still made the sunset tour to Lime Kiln Point State Park. The history and commentary were right on, and so enjoyable. We thought we'd miss the bus after dinner, but he was watching and stopped when he saw my hubby trying to catch him. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Very friendly drivers and great sources of information about the island. Don't rely too closely to the schedule as the day progresses.

With a 2-day pass, we rode with three different drivers, and each one made the experience memorable. We even used it as our go-to way to get around town. But the standout by far was Quince -- delivering history with humor and making the ride unforgettable. Highly recommend!

We paid $173 total ($60 per adult, $39 for our teen, and the rest for our tween), and they gave us brochures outlining the route and stops, plus one timetable as they were almost out. That's when we realized the bus frequency is every hour, and not every 15 minutes. The last bus was at 5:30 pm. Fortunately, they had a bus scheduled to run at the half hour mark during summers (10, noon and 2), so we would not need to wait for an hour every time we disembarked. The long gap between busses meant we had to restrict the number of places we hopped off - we chose to see the Songhees lookout on the other side of the water, and take a lunch stop in Oak Bay Village. Of the places we'd originally planned to see, we ended up skipping Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and Beacon Hill Park (with its 150+ feet-tall totem pole). Many of the other places on the "itinerary" were either closed or obvious tourist traps. The busses are double-deckers and are fairly comfortable - some have open roofs, others don't. They tend to run about 5-10 minutes behind schedule. Service level was mixed. We got one nice tour guide, and a rude one who chastised us for all the things we MAY do on the journey (like throw trash everywhere instead of in the bin!), even before the bus had departed the starting point. Verdict - overpriced and not worth wasting a day of precious vacation time on. Wish we had taken a cab or water taxi instead and visited just the places we wanted to see.

We priced out the options and LA Limo's luxury bus was a better value than booking the excursion through NCL. Bob was our driver and was an incredible tour guide. He took us to the Gardens as soon as we got off the ship so we could maximize our time there. We had considerable more time than the people who booked through NCL. After the gardens closed, he took us on an amazing sightseeing tour on the way back to the ship and he told us great stories and the history of Victoria. He was extremely genuine and enthusiastic about his job and he clearly took care of us throughout the tour. He said we were the first cruise ship to dock in Victoria for 2024 so the atmosphere was filled with excitement - which enhanced our experience. Their office staff is very organized and prompt in communication. Jennifer and Dylan were extremely responsive and kept us updated at all times. I cannot wait to return to Victoria and I would not hesitate to use LA Limo for all my transportation needs. That was the highlight of our trip and definitely the most memorable.

Not sure how that works cause I don't think the driver can take money, but it's a nice touch. No reso means you may be sitting on the floor, but likely not for long as many people get off at China Beach before the bus heads to Victoria. A great service for avid hikers who need a ride back to their cars or didn't have one to begin with. I am a HUGE fan of accessible yet still "wilderness" hiking. Price: 3 stars. I picked up the bus at Sombrio which means a good 1.5h ride or so. I paid $55. A weeeee bit steep if you ask me considering the bus from downtown Victoria to downtown Van (and including ferry) was under $45. Smell: MINUS 5. Wow. The second I stepped up it hit me like a ton of bricks. Last time I encountered rankness of that caliber I was in South America on a bus that contained people, babies with no diapers, livestock and chickens. And no, you do NOT get used to it. You take it for as long as you have to and you breath through your mouth (although doing so always makes me think of those nasty molecules passing through my mouth and tongue which is kinda worst than your nose right? which is the lesser of 2 evils??) I cannot, however, let the the stankness of smelly dirty hikers influence my rating. I'm sure I contributed and all I kept thinking was...that poor poor driver. I hope he is adequately compensated. Overall... a solid 4 stars. I would recommend the service, just bring nose plugs.

Case in Point - Butchart Gardens. The Gray Line will take you there, but it will cost you significantly more than the BC Transit #75 Bus. Gayle and I picked it up Downtown at the corner of Douglas and Fort and paid $2.50 each one way. The bus requires exact change, but all we had to do was put a blue $5 Bill in the machine, and we were on our way. Our bus ran on time and dropped us a few feet from the entrance to Butchart Gardens. Our return trip was just as straightforward. The bus was also clean, safe, and comfortable and our fellow patrons were polite and courteous. What more can one ask?

One sympathizes but at the same time that is no excuse for the rudeness and the inability to be on schedule. Add to this the gatekeepers who staff the phone make excuses as to why the buses are not on time and will not put you through to a supervisor if asked. The topper for me was they didn't consider a bus to be technically late unless it was over 20 minutes late. Schedules were merely "suggestions". What I don't think the average transit employee realizes is that automation and self driving buses are going to make them extinct in the next 10-15 years, if not sooner.
