I just buried my father today and had to come home to write this review praising Dave Jones and his staff for their excellent service.

Reviewing a memorial? Yep. I'm gonna do it…read more I think there's a very noble sentiment behind this memorial and after Googling a bit of the back story, this giant installation along Naperville's Riverwalk (that was one of the nation's first 9/11 memorials built) made a lot more sense. Backstory: Naval Commander Dan Shanower, was a Naperville native, who died in the attack on the Pentagon on September 11th. The memorial is titled. 'Freedom Isn't Free and contains excerpts from an article of that same name that Commander Dan Shanower penned. A portion of the memorial is really well done, with an eternal flame set atop a sculpture made with 100-pounds of rubble from the Pentagon after the attack, a steal beam from one of the Towers and granite from the area where Flight 93 went down in Pennsylvania. There's an imprint of Commander Shanower's boot on the memorial and a garden surrounding the area. It's tasteful and delivers the Freedom Isn't Free message more than merely describing it could. The back half of the memorial unfortunately doesn't do the rest of the installment justice. In fact, it kind of mars it. It's a 48-foot long cement retaining wall with 140 very strange faces sculpted by children from one of Naperville's grade schools. At first glance, the monument plaques looks like it reads 'wall of feces', which is very incorrect. You'd think they could of come up with a better name for it... or at the very least a better font to type it out in. The faces on the wall look like you would imagine a 2nd grader would mold a piece of clay to look (sort of) like a face, which would be cute if it was your kid and they were making like, a potholder or coffee mug or something, but to be permanently showcased for public display? No way, Jose. The faces, and I'm just gonna blurt it out here, are sad and creepy and look oddly like pop culture characters drawn by Mike Judge (think King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead). It's not fitting to the idea behind the whole memorial and it so poorly executed that it makes you wonder if the person who funded the project had a wife who taught an elementary school art class and wanted to promote her kid's work. The wall is just strange and for what it's in memorial of, it deserves to be better. It's a valiant effort, and I think the memorial would have been a million times more meaningful if they'd just left it at the eternal flame and statue with a blank wall behind it, or with the names of those who lost their lives that day instead of a very random array of clay faces sculpted by children.

It feels a bit strange to review a funeral home but I am very happy that I decided to use Dupage…read moreCremations when my mom passed away a couple of months ago because they made everything very streamlined. I had visited the location a couple days before my mom passed and they were very respectful and took down all of our information so that after my mom passed they were able to just come in take her body to the home. They also were able to get all of our official documentation information filled out at that moment as well. We had the basic cremation package which allowed us a 30 minute viewing. The space was clean and allowed us some private time with my mom before she was cremated. Receiving her remains and death certificate was also very efficient. We received both a couple business days after the viewing. Thank you for making a difficult life event pain free and simple. That was very important for us as we grieved.

Even when they arrived to pickup my mom from my home they were caring, careful explained the process, walked the best path for exit and did not rush even though it was pouring rain outside. I was immediately impressed even through my grief. They followed up with me as stated, scheduled a meeting time to discuss plans. They were upfront about pricing, no gimmicks or salesman pitch. All of my questions were answered, no request is too weird because they've heard it all. I actually learned a lot about the cremation process and county requirements. I'm so happy they were recommended to me and I tell everyone about them and my family will definitely utilize their services in the future if/when needed.

Yelp REALLY should have a different comment associated with a five-star rating for any businesses…read moresuch as this. There was most definitely NO "WooHoo-ing" going on here as making funeral arrangements and/or attending funerals and wakes is never an "exciting" adventure. Of course, when you are grieving the loss of a close loved one, it's difficult to think straight and stay focused on what needs to be done. Kelly M. at O'Neil is an absolute ANGEL (She even kinda looks like one!) She sweetly and sympathetically walked my family and I through each step, covering every single thing that needed to be done and helped to clarify decisions that were difficult, which I'm sure IS her job, but she truly excels at it! I believe she went above and beyond to get my family and I through it all as quickly and as painlessly as possible. Actually, every single employee that I encountered at O'Neil showed the utmost professionalism in the nicest, most sincere possible way! The facility itself is absolutely gorgeous! I've been told that it was recently remodeled (prior to my use of it in summer 2012) so I do not know what it looked like previously, but I can tell you it is most definitely a comfortable and warmly welcoming, yet classy place. Last month another family member passed away and the family IMMEDIATELY went to O'Neil for the arrangements, even though they used other facilities regularly in the past, everyone was so extremely impressed with O'Neil while attending my Husband's wake and funeral that it will be the only facility our families will ever use from now on.

I suggest calling Goodale or Anderson before choosing cremation or Funeral services at O'Neil, I…read morewas able to find services at a fraction of the cost with just a couple of phone calls.
